My 2001 C5 Corvette convertible regrettably is up for sale as I can no longer justify keeping a third car, but this one is in great condition and I'm sure that the winning bidder will enjoy it as much as I have.

First, the history.  You'll see that the car has a clean Carfax and I have owned it since the fall of 2011.  I believe I'm the 4th owner, but the person I bought it from - a very experienced buyer/seller of muscle cars - said that this one was one of the best Vettes that he's come across.  Randomly he knew the last owner (owned for most of the car's life) and was impressed by how well he maintained the car.  As for me, I've put about 3500 miles on the car and have used it as a summer driver and kept it garaged during the winter.

This Vette has 57,XXX miles on it and is going up because I am still driving it!  It has a dark blue exterior, with tan interior and top (top looks white in picture but is really tan).  There body is really clean with no dings, dents to speak other than what might be expected of a car of it's age.  The interior is equally clean with normal wear on the leather seats and it comes with Lloyd's floormats with the C5 logo.

And now on to the good stuff.  This Vette comes with the following performance upgrades and options:
  • Z-51 suspension package, a factory option which approaches that of the Z-06
  • 6 speed manual transmission with a C6 shifter installed, which is a great upgrade and a slightly shorter throw shifter than the standard C5
  • Blackwing cold air intake
  • Corsa cat back exhaust,
  • brand new Michelin pilot sport run flats all the way around
  • Brand new Duralast Gold battery
  • New gas struts for the hardtop convertible cover and trunk
  • Two sets of keys, original manual, and original VHS video tape
  • Head's up display, 12 CD changer in the trunk with Bose sound system, and all power options, includes active handling but not magnetic ride control
I've tried to describe this Vette as accurately as I can, but please email me with any questions you may have and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.  As I'm an individual seller and not a dealer, please understand that you're buying the car as is so not returns will be accepted or warranties offered.  For local buyers, I'm in Cleveland Ohio, but for buyers outside of the area you must make your own arrangements to either pick it up locally or have it shipped to you.  I've set the reserve reasonably, so thanks for you interest and good luck!

Chevy monitors drivers' biometrics while experiencing new Corvette Stingray

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

We tell you about what a car is like to drive every day, remarking on throttle response, steering weight and feedback, squat, dive, brake fade and a dozen or more other factors of performance. What we can't tell you, though, is what the car does to us - how its performance impacts us, physically. That's what makes this video series from Chevrolet so darn cool.
The Bow-Tie brand rented out Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, got several (very) different individuals together, strapped a bunch of sensors to their bodies to record biometric data ranging from heart rate to respiration to brain activity, and then handed them keys to the new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The results are explained in a series of videos, devoted to each driver, showing how different people react to the Corvette's performance.
If, like your author, you're a nerd for medical science, this is going to be a fascinating set of videos. If not, it's still pretty cool to see how the body of someone with racing experience, like Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, reacts to tracking a car like the Corvette Stingray compared to the owner of legendary Detroit barbecue joint, Slows BBQ. Take a look below for all six videos from the series, or hop over to the Corvette Vimeo channel for the interactive experience, where you can see all the different metrics.

Camaro-based Trans Am SE Bandit Edition borrows Burt Reynolds

Tue, Mar 29 2016

For some reason, modifying modern Chevrolet Camaros into the lurching, reincarnated shells of the Pontiac brand is still a thing. If you're the perverse sort that likes this kind of thing, you should check out the latest product from the Trans Am Depot, which comes complete with an endorsement from the star of Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds. Yes, the new Trans Am SE Bandit Edition has been signed and endorsed by the man himself, but what's important here is not the signature on the dash, it's the bits of Camaro that have been modified. Aesthetically, that means a Bandit-and-Frog-approved set of T-tops, a front-opening hood with a very large, prominent shaker scoop, an equally large and prominent screaming chicken, and Trans Am-inspired front and rear fascias. And naturally, Burt Reynolds' signature adorns the dash. There are plenty of reminders in the cabin about this car's Hollywood inspiration, too. Bandit decals can be found on the front headrests and center console lid, there are chicken wings on the Camaro-spec plastic door inserts, and the black-and-tan color scheme matches nicely with the exterior look. And power? Well, Sheriff Buford T. Justice would have a lot more trouble keeping up with this Trans Am than he did with the original. The 7.4-liter LSX V8 has been paired with a 2.9-liter supercharger which is good for 840 horsepower. It's fast and loud, and even if you can't get behind the look (we can't), at least this Camaro-in-Trans Am's clothing can impress with its performance. The Bandit Edition is limited to just 77 units with prices starting around $115,000. You can check out the official video from Trans Am Depot, which comes with a decent helping of Burt Reynolds, up top. Related Video:

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado

Sat, Oct 9 2021

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
