The Tire Kicker Disclaimer below is the reason for the novel I wrote describing the car.
Up for bid is a 1987 Corvette Convertible Project. Sitting under a new cover now but garage kept most of its life. This Corvette has a GM Performance ZZ4 Crate engine (new- not re-built) backed up with a 700R4 overdrive transmission that is also rebuilt with all of the best and strongest in upgraded performance since they first hit the street including Beast Sunshell, bigger boost valves, and stronger Corvette servo, and tougher accumulator springs. Car runs very strong and shifts great! Torque convertor was upgraded to 2500 stall which was recommended on most ZZ4 forums; however, I hardly noticed a difference. I have owned this car since 2005. 95% or more complete. Easy car to flip and resell.
The good:
-Engine area- A/C blows cold, injectors rebuilt at time of install, air pump and all environmental compliance items like catalytic convertors are there and function as they should, belts, New alternator, New upper alt. bracket, new a/c bracket, spark plug wires, spark plugs, exhaust gaskets, Walker Y-Pipe, mufflers, high energy ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, radiator hoses, radiator cooling fan and coolant, vacuum ball thingy for the cruise control, vacuum lines, and battery are all new or at least replaced since I have owned it. Tires excellent! New Horns, brand new wiper blades. New power brake booster. Engine specs available online. 89 Octane as advertised, but I have run 87 without issue at times. Alignment excellent.
-Interior- Seat recovered (Vinyl) lumbar bags, seat foam, various switches in the seats, mirror switches, DASH CLUSTER!, owners manual with original cover, heat and sound barrier insulation, carpet, console side panels, Pioneer CD radio with IPOD and XM components installed. Window switches new! New door panels and arm rests, No dash cracks at all! New seat belts and covers and so much more.
-Exterior- Original white paint with subtle amount of pearl added to clear. Replaced since I have owned it is the convertible top and headliner.
Yes, I have many of the most important receipts but stop keeping them over the years. Yes, it is a clear and open title. Car comes with additional, later model, front bumper that had the wrap around lights. Many C4 owners upgrade to this because it does look so much better than the squared off corners. (1) Marker light included with that. Will have to be prep'd and painted to match of course.
Here is the bad:
- Needs (2) Sun Visors and mounting hardware (springs and nuts). Although car came with only one lighted vanity it has provisions for both sides to be lighted ($125.00).
- Rear hatch switch on passenger side inoperable although drivers side does work ($22.00).
- Power antenna top nut became loose while passing through on New York's beautiful and well maintained roadways and dismounted itself. I still have the power antenna but have not re-installed it mainly because I cannot find the mounting nut to replace it.
- Tranny pan leak from around installed aftermarket drain plug. Nothing serious, and please don't email asking me if it will make it to ??? We are not talking the Exxon Valdez here, but annoying if you are particular about these things. I drove it this way for this long.
- Upon cold start-up will do what they call a "searching idle" after a few seconds of the engine warming up it will fluctuate between 6-700 RPM to 8-900. At operating temp it idles as it should.
- May need rack and pinion or power steering pump because at idle speed the power steering is not strong enough. However, at cruising speed with the RPM up it is not noticeable.
- Windshield has a crack on Drivers side far to the left corner. Will pass NC inspection.
-Drivers side headlight does not go up or down automatically. You can turn the knob to raise it like other models.
-Some paint bubbles on hood, front bumper, and lower passenger door. Pearl can be blended in factories do it all the time.
Most of the things I have listed under the bad column have been that way since I bought it, but should be noted upon sale. So, I laid it out for you to play it out. Me, my wife, my kids have all drove this car with these issues. This is not a 'fact finding mission' and I am not looking for mechanic advice on how to fix any of those items via email. I know how to do that already, but have switched my attention to a new project over 2 years ago and have not had the time or motivation to fix them. A few hundred bucks and a days worth of work and this car could be flipped for much more. Do you your homework and you will come to that conclusion yourself. I am not a car dealer and I don't pay my bills selling stuff on eBay. Probably best to trailer or tow car to your destination because I have not driven this car much and you know how things get when they sit for long periods of time. However, I still believe you can drive this car anywhere as it is now. My reserve is set at a price that allows me to get back the cost of the engine and 1/2 the tranny rebuild consider everything else as extra. Low reserve. I would like to see this go for over $5000. We will see...
Tire Kicker Disclaimer (for the Tire Kicker and Dreamers):
This is a 26 year old vehicle you need to know what you're buying before you hit the bid button. Down payment is a MUST because it prevents people from coming to your driveway to renegotiate a new price when the auction closes. You do that, you loose your deposit. Other eBay Sellers should enforce this same policy. The time to negotiate is during the auction. My deposit amount simply covers listing fee, commission fees, and personal time. I prefer wire transfer if you decide to ship it. NO CHECKS. If you want to pay cash in person, I am good with that, but not a dime less than what it sold for on eBay. This car is NOT listed locally; the auction will run its course. I will not end the auction early. I will not post additional pictures or answer questions that have already been answered within my ad. If you receive no reply then safely assume you need to go to your local community college and take the Nelson Denny test for reading comprehension. Asking me several questions over the period of the auction, indicates to me, that you want ME to talk you out of buying this car. I will cut to the chase: don't buy it! If you drive from California to here and decide you don't want it...enjoy your North Carolina vacation. You won't get your deposit back. No- I wont take close up photos of bubbling paint using a X15,000 zoom lens and a spectrograph to detail the measurement of light over an electromagnetic spectrum. It bubbled in some areas- enough said! I will assist in shipping but will not arrange or pay for it. No I will not meet you half-way anywhere. No warranty. As-is, where is. I will assist in the loading of this vehicle. If by loading you mean stand there and watch the guy you hired load it at the end of my driveway.
I will assume that if you are bidding that you have already cleared that through your spouse. Me? I don't ask permission because I am the man of this house and I rule this empire. If you threaten to send that last statement to my wife in order to negotiate a better deal with me- then I will cancel your bid.
Yes, I know I will never sell the car with that disclaimer but like my dad always says, "...It ain't eating anything sitting there...."
Good Luck

Foreign automakers pay from $38 to $65 per hour to non-union workers
Sun, Mar 29 2015As leaders for the United Auto Workers gather in Detroit for their Special Convention on Collective Bargaining to work out the negotiating stance for this year's new labor agreements with the Detroit 3 automakers, what they most want to do is figure out how to eliminate the two-tier wage scale. However, the lower Tier 2 wage has allowed the domestic automakers to reduce their labor costs, hire more workers, and compete better with their import competition. As it stands, per-hour labor rates including benefits are $58 at General Motors, $57 at Ford, and $48 at Fiat-Chrysler – a reflection of FCA's much greater number of Tier 2 workers. The Center for Automotive Research released a study of labor rates (including benefits) that put numbers to what the imports pay: Mercedes-Benz pays the most, at an average of $65 per hour, Volkswagen pays the least, at $38 per hour, and BMW is just a hair above that at $39 per hour. Among the Detroit competitors, Honda workers earn an average of $49 per hour, at Toyota it's $48 per hour, Nissan is $42 per hour, and Hyundai-Kia pays $41 per hour. The lower import wages are aided by their greater use of temporary workers compared to the domestics. Automotive News says the ten-dollar gap between those foreign camakers and the domestics turns out to about an extra $250 per car in labor, which adds up quickly when you're pumping out many millions of cars. That $250-per-car number is one that, come negotiating time, the Detroit 3 will want to reduce, as the UAW is trying to raise both Tier 1 and Tier 2 wages. Another wrinkle is that the domestic carmakers are considering the wide adoption of a third wage level lower than Tier 2. Some workers who do minor tasks like assembling parts trays kits and battery packs already make less than Tier 2, but the UAW will be quite wary about cementing yet another wage scale at the bottom of the system while it's trying to fight a bigger battle at the top. Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
2019 GMC Sierra revealed with CarbonPro bed and new diesel engine
Thu, Mar 1 2018It's only March, and it's already been one hell of a year for trucks. January's Detroit Auto Show saw the reveals of the 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Ford Ranger and the 2019 Chevy Silverado. The Chicago Auto Show brought new versions of the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Today, we finally got our first look at the Silverado's twin, the 2019 GMC Sierra. The truck features new styling, a new diesel engine and — on the Sierra Denali — a carbon fiber bed. As with every new full-size truck, the Sierra is larger than the outgoing model in almost every dimension, though exact dimensions haven't been revealed. For reference, though, the Chevy Silverado's bed is 7-inches wider than before. The new Sierra grille is more upright than before and features new C-shaped lighting. The Denali gets LED headlights, tail lights and fog lights. Both SLT and Denali trims get unique 22-inch wheels. As we saw in spy photos, the Sierra's interior is mostly just a copy of the Silverado's with some chrome accents sprinkled throughout. If you like the current truck interiors, you'll be pleased with the new model. Those hoping for a wholesale change will be left wanting. The big improvements inside include a full-color heads-up display, trailer hitch assist apps and cameras, and the rear-camera mirror found in models like the Chevy Traverse and Cadillac CT6. Safety and convenience features include a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, pedestrian detection and low-speed automatic braking. Like the Silverado, there's been a significant effort to cut weight in the new Sierra. The 2019 model loses as much as 360 pounds compared to the current truck. It uses aluminum for the doors, hood and tailgate. Steel is still used for the fenders, roof and standard cargo box. The Denali, however, gets the real surprise here. Available only on the top-tier trim, the bed box will be constructed of carbon fiber rather than steel, saving 62 pounds. Carbon fiber only replaces the steel inner panels and floor. GMC says the carbon fiber will also help scratch and corrosion resistance. SLT and Denali models also get a new MultiPro tailgate. This is unique to the Sierra and separate from the Silverado's power assist unit. A new feature that helps one get into and out of the bed using an assist handle. The tailgate step has a maximum weight capacity of 375 pounds. There multiple positions that allow customers to extend the bed, or drop the center vertically to gain easier access to the back.
