1985 Red Corvette

Only 14,000 Original Miles

Cars like this are very hard to find. The first owner bought the car new and kept it in a heated garage under a custom car cover since new. This Corvette is all original, numbers matching, never wrecked, painted or had any body work. He drove it a little each summer. He owns a few Corvettes but this was the only one he bought new so he tried to keep the miles low. He is a retired mechanic and did his own maintenance and made sure all maintenance was performed and he stored the car properly at the end of each summer. I have loved this car for years and tried to get him to sell it to me many years ago but he was too attached to the car. I finally got him to make me a deal a year ago. I have had the air conditioning upgraded to the latest system and I fixed a minor emissions issue it had. The car runs and drives great and has that deep awesome Corvette sound and still puts a lot of power to the road. It has the sport seats with the Bose system, power windows, door locks, tilt wheel with telescoping feature, tinted glass removable roof and many more options. This car is all original, it even has the original tires. I would love to keep it but finances are forcing me to sell it. At nearly 30 years old with such low miles this is a classic Corvette that will only go up in value if it is kept in this same condition. I have the owner's manuals and everything that came new with the car. If you are looking for a really nice classic Corvette that can be driven and will appreciate in value then this is your car. The color combination with the condition and the low, low, miles makes this Corvette a very rare car. NADA book value on this car is $19,975.00 and they give no add for miles. Most cars this age have over 100,000 miles and have had multiple owners. You can tell from looking and driving this car that it has been very well preserved since the day it was bought. I am starting the auction at a very low price and the car will sell to the highest bidder. I will deliver the car within 300 miles for free. I will work with anyone who would like to ship the car anywhere and I will do what I can to help you with shipping. I require payment by wire transfer within 5 days of purchase and I require a $500 payment from PayPal within 24 hours of purchase. I have the title with no liens so the car is ready to go. I try to be very thorough in my description and if you check out my feedback I don't embellish the things I sell. This car is exactly how I've described it and to my knowledge everything works perfect. I had my mechanic go over it in the spring and the only things he suggested, which I did fix was to upgrade the air conditioning and fix an issue with the exhaust, which would occasionally cause the check engine light to come on. Since it was fixed I driven it all summer with no issues and ice cold AC. I haven't seen another 1985 Corvette in this kind of condition with this low of miles and with such a perfect color combination. If you have any questions or would like more pictures just call Doug at 208-403-3684 and I will help in any way I can. I hate to sell this car because I have wanted it for many years but things are just not good enough for me financially to justify keeping it. I want it to go to a good home where someone will continue to care for it the way it has been cared for the last almost 30 years. Bid with confidence you WON'T be disappointed in this car. I will include the car and dash covers. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. If you love the car and have an offer that's fair call me and I will consider ending things early if I can get a fair price. I need the money and would like to sell the car fast.  Call Doug at 208-403-3684 or send me questions through eBay and I will answer them. Thanks for the interest!!

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.

GM raises 2023 guidance on strong sales, higher profits

Tue, Apr 25 2023

General Motors beat first-quarter profit estimates and raised its full-year earnings and cash-flow guidance after vehicle demand at the start of the year surpassed expectations. Its shares rose in premarket trading. GM made $2.21 a share in adjusted profit in the first quarter, compared to a consensus forecast of $1.72 a share. Revenue rose 11% to $39.99 billion, it said Tuesday, which was more than the $39.24 billion analysts expected. The stronger results stem from rising sales in the US, even in the face of higher interest rates and inflation. GM executives said demand was strong enough to revise 2023 guidance upward, boosting profit estimates for the year by $500 million to between $11 billion and $13 billion. “We did it with strong production and inventory discipline and consistent pricing,” GM Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said on a call with journalists. “All in all, weÂ’re feeling confident about 2023.” The Detroit automaker raised per-share full-year guidance to between $6.35 and $7.35, up from $6 to $7 a share, and said free cash flow would also increase by $500 million to a range of $5.5 billion to $7.5 billion.  GMÂ’s shares pared a gain of as much as 4.4% before the start of regular trading Tuesday, rising 3.5% to $35.50 as of 6:55 a.m. in New York. The stock was up 1.9% for the year as of the close on Monday.  North American Strength The automakerÂ’s sales were particularly strong in North America, where first-quarter earnings rose before interest and taxes rose to $3.6 billion. Vehicle sales rose 18% to 707,000 in the region. Jacobson said the company originally expected to sell 15 million vehicles in the US this year, slightly less than the 15.5 million annualized rate automakers foresaw in the first quarter. North American demand was enough to offset a weak performance in China, GMÂ’s second-largest market. The automaker continues to struggle in the country, where its vehicle sales fell 25% to 462,000 vehicles in the quarter. Profits from its joint ventures in the market slumped 65% to $83 million.  The market has struggled overall in the wake of Covid-19 restrictions and foreign automakers have had to overcome a growing preference for Chinese brands by competing on price, squeezing profit margins. The situation in China probably wonÂ’t significantly improve until the second half of the year, according to Jacobson. GM remains on target to sell 150,000 electric vehicles this year, the CFO said.

Next Chevy Silverado could get this built-in tailgate step

Thu, Feb 2 2017

General Motors just received patent approval for a tailgate step in a pickup bed. And given the timing, don't be surprised if you see this on the upcoming 2019 Silverado pickup (not the mention its GMC Sierra twin), expected to arrive in late 2018. According to the patent, granted in December of last year, the whole mechanism is housed in the tailgate assemble. The magic happens when a portion of the top half of the tailgate swings down and a step folds out. There's also a handle that locks into position to help climb up into the bed. As trucks get bigger and taller over the years, it gets harder and harder to access the cargo bed. Ford's solution with the 2009 F-150 was a step that slides out from the end of the tailgate. Back then, Chevy made an ill-advised ad highlighting the feature for Ford. And while Howie Long mocked the F-150's "man step" Ford saw almost a third of its trucks with the option in the first year. The GM design seems to improve on Ford's idea as it appears to be wider and has a back to the lower step. That is, you don't have to worry about stepping through the ladder-rung design as on the F-150. Ford's tailgate step later spread to the F Super Duty, and other cargo access assists have proliferated through the truck world. On the most recent redesign, the Chevrolet Silverado took a trick from the Avalanche and added cutouts to the corners of the rear bumper that act as a foothold. Ford also offers a deployable side step, Chevrolet has running boards that scoot rearward with a kick of the boot, and Ram offers fixed wheel-to-wheel side rails. Nissan is in on the game too, with an optional folding step that tucks under the rear bumper. We don't expect Chevrolet to comment on when or if we'll see this feature in the showrooms. But given that engineers are already hard at work on the next Silverado and the timing of this patent lines right up with the new truck's development cycle, we'll be disappointed if this patent stays in the file cabinet.
