Manufactured at GM’s St Louis Missouri assembly plant and then trucked across town to St Louis Missouri based Fields Chevrolet, this ’72 Corvette has benefitted from one single frame up restoration throughout its entire 42 year existence. During the top notch restoration, the car received its one-and-only repaint of GMs striking code 989 War Bonnet paint that has been well-maintained, and presents an extremely glossy shine. Unlike a lot of classic Vettes, this car has not been over-restored which means it still displays factory correct panel gaps, and its fiberglass body fits together exactly the way it would’ve when leaving the showroom in 1972. The result is an ace Corvette with an awesome, flat finish that is virtually free of ripples and waves.

1972 was the last year for chrome front bumpers on the Corvette, and this cars original bumper is in very good condition and presents a great shine. Below that bumper, great looking original stainless grilles house original marker lights and sit above a subtle black chin spoiler that follows the lines of the car’s front fenders. Above the bumper, an original fiberglass hood features painted black stripes that border correct “LT-1” callouts and sit in front of pristine chrome accents. At the back of the hood, original stainless windshield trim has been buffed to a great looking shine and connects to stainless trimmed T-tops which also wear striking War Bonnet yellow paint. At the sides of the car, chrome trimmed fender louvers sit above dent free stainless rocker trim and complement great looking original stainless mirrors and door handles. At the back of the car, a chrome factory luggage rack sits above four traditional stainless trimmed Corvette tail lights that are divided by centered “Corvette” lettering. Below the tail lights, two more razor blade style original bumpers sit above chrome trimmed exhaust outlets that house square stainless exhaust tips.

Tilt the hood on this glowing Corvette and you’ll find a numbers matching, top option LT-1 V8 that was fully rebuilt to factory specifications during the cars restoration. Equipped with solid lifters and a high performance camshaft, this hot 350 produces 9:1 compression ratio and cool 255 net horsepower (or, for you traditionalists, 330 gross horsepower) At the top of the motor, a chrome open element air filter sends air into a correct, exclusive to 1972 Holley 4 barrel carburetor. Below that carburetor, a correct Winter aluminum intake sits between the cars original finned aluminum valve covers. Below those valve covers, the engine block has been bathed in correct Chevy Orange paint and is border by correct ram horn cast iron exhaust manifolds that show hardly any rust. At the back of the motor a correct distributor sits under a chrome shield, and at the front of the motor you’ll find the cars original Frigidaire AC compressor sandwiched between fresh hoses and fresh V-belts. With a smooth coat of satin black paint, the car’s engine bay presents well and features a rebuilt master cylinder and power brake booster and a correct radiator and fan shroud.

Take one look underneath this car and you’ll see that it has been highly maintained and treated well its entire life. Exceptionally clean, the frame is devoid of the typical amount of scrape marks and dents you’d expect after almost four decades of road time, and the solid fiberglass floors appear to have never been hit or repaired. Behind the engine, a hardcore M21 Muncie 4-speed sends power to a Posi-traction rear end that houses tall for 1972 3.36 gears. The close ratio transmission slips easily through the gears and when combined with the cars standard power steering and power disc brakes, it makes for a quick, great driving car that might even surprise a few drivers in modern performance machines. Holding the car off the ground is a road ready original double A-arm front and solid independent rear suspension that houses a traditional transversely mounted leaf spring. Exhaust is handled by a low restriction factory style true dual system that features two factory replacement mufflers just ahead of stainless tips at the rear of the car. Putting the power to the pavement is four 15 inch steel rally wheels that are glued to 215/70 BF Goodrich T/A radials and wear pristine silver paint behind turbine style center caps and stainless trim rings.

Slip into the cars heavily optioned all original code 421 Saddle interior and settle into one of the comfortable leather covered bucket seats. Well broken in, but not showing major signs of wear, these seats still contain their original frames, houses original foams and feature original headrest inserts. Below the seats, the cars clean and stain free saddle carpet runs from under the dash to the lighted cargo area and creates an awesome 70s feel. On the doors, original saddle colored panels feature great looking stainless trim and wood appliques above chrome handles and correct chrome twist locks. In front of the driver, the cars straight and crack free dash houses crystal clear gauges next to an AM/FM cassette player with a digital tuner and a correct passenger’s side map pocket. Power flows from that AM/FM cassette deck through a Pioneer amp mounted in the cars jack well to hidden Pyle speakers in the cargo area. Below the dash, the cars original saddle console houses rotary controls for the cars rare air conditioning system, a chrome Hurst shifter with a marbled shift knob and buttons for the cars optional power windows. In front of the driver, a correct black rimmed and satin spoked steering wheel features a correct C3 crossed flags horn button.

This car comes with pretty extensive documentation that includes: copies of the original window sticker, the cars tank stickers, an owner history, a recent appraisal, receipts from the restoration, reference material about the car and both old and new pictures which include detailed photos of the cars 1972 LT-1 350 Holley carburetor.

This is a numbers-matching LT-1 Corvette with factory air conditioning and War Bonnet Yellow paint is a rare, well documented car that’s ready to drive home today for less than the price of a frame-off restoration.

Chevrolet Malibu gets across-the-board price cuts, hopes to dig out of slump

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):

2016 Chevy Volt sneak peek at CES

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Here it is, folks – your first real glimpse at the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. The gasoline-electric sedan will officially debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week, but Chevy gave us a sneak peek of its redesigned Volt at a media event in Las Vegas late Sunday, as part of its CES festivities. There isn't a ton to see here, and sorry about the low quality video (and for us not standing front and center during the reveal). But we can clearly see the car's redesigned front fascia – something recently previewed at a fan event in Los Angeles. For another view, check out a high-res photo of the new Volt from our friends at The Verge, here. Chevy even tweeted a photo of the Volt's new nose on its official Volt Twitter account, which you can see below. The automaker didn't divulge any details about its new Volt, but we already know quite a bit. For starters, the Volt will use a new, 1.5-liter gasoline engine and won't require premium fuel. It'll have more EV range and a bigger battery, too. We'll have a whole mess of information when the 2016 Volt is fully revealed in Detroit in about one week's time. In the meantime, here are some more looks at the Volt, courtesy of the Twitterverse. We're so excited about #NextGenVolt we brought it out early at #CES2015! Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R named Road & Track Performance Car of the Year

Mon, Nov 9 2015

With a 526-horsepower, 5.2-liter V8 that roars to 8,250 rpm, it's really hard to consider the 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R an underdog in any fight. However, the Shelby held the lowest as-tested price and was only middle of the pack in terms of power in Road & Track's 2016 Performance Car of the Year challenge. The 'Stang's numbers clearly didn't tell the whole story about the potent coupe because Ford's muscle car grabbed the title in this year's test. A model needs to be new or significantly updated to be eligible for the honor, and R&T found an impressive slate of eight candidates this year. The challengers included the Bentley Continental GT3-R, Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper ACR, Mercedes-AMG GT S, and Porsche Cayman GT4. The Ferrari 488 GTB was the most expensive of the bunch with an as-tested price of $347,942, which is five times more than the Shelby. Once the group was together, R&T hustled them over curving roads and on the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There was a lot to love about the Shelby, even in this impressive crew. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," editor-in-chief Larry Webster said in the announcement of the results. The GT350R joins some great company. Past winners include the Porsche 911 GT3 last year and the Corvette in 2013. For some fantastic photography and the complete appraisal of these performance machines check out R&T's website for the full story. Related Video: ROAD & TRACK NAMES THE FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT350R THE 2016 PERFORMANCE CAR OF THE YEAR New York, NY (November 9, 2015) – Road & Track today named the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R the 2016 Performance Car of the Year, beating out seven of the world's best new sports cars. The article appears in the December/January issue, on newsstands November 17, and on RoadandTrack.com. "With a flat-plane crank and Sport Cup 2 tires, the GT350R is a Mustang turned up to 11," said Larry Webster, editor-in-chief of Road & Track. "Not only does the car have soul and harness so much firepower with such ease, but the real achievement here is that it's so approachable. It's a car you can't help but love." The Mustang Shelby GT350R was the winner by a runaway vote.
