We've decided to sell our 1969 Corvette. My wife and I own several old cars, and even though we are both retired, we have found that we rarely drive the 69. This is a super nice older frame off restored car for a serious collector. The frame off restoration was done in the early 1990's. This was the cover car used on Tom Falconer's book, "Original Corvette 1968-1982", published in 2001.
It's Monaco Orange with a black leather interior.
This is a multiple NCRS Top Flight Award winning car. It has scored as high as 98.9 % at Chapter, Regional, and National events. It is also the recipient of an NCRS Founders Award.
We have owned this car for 16 years. It is a veteran of 3 NCRS Road tours, Baltimore to St. Louis (1998), Baltimore to Bowling Green (2000), and Baltimore to Montauk LI NY (2000)
It has a no-hit body, documented by resto photos from the early 1990's
It has the ORIGINAL 427/400 3x2 carb motor, casting # 3963512, cast F 30 9 (June 30, 1969). The original engine stamp reads T0710LN, Tonawanda, July 10, 427/400 automatic.
It has the original THM 400 transmission, with the CL code. It it trans #550, so it was built the 185th. day of 1969, around June of 69.
It has the original rear end, dated 8-13-69, Aug 13, 1969, with the AW code (427 HD Posi 3.08 ratio) I had this rear end rebuilt about 10 years ago, and installed 3.36 gears in the original case.
The Trim Tag reads 402 (Black Leather) 990 (Monaco Orange paint) M27 (August 27, 1969 assembly)
The only "numbers" that do not "match" on this car are:
1. Both cylinder heads. They're the correct oval port heads, but have 1968 dates. (can't see with the valve covers on)
2. Windshield is a LOF Safety Float replacement.
I have the original tank sticker, documenting the options of:
1. 427/400 3x2 motor
2. THM 400 trans.
3. ORIGINAL 69 only side exhaust car.
4. PS and PB
5. AM/FM Stereo radio
6. Black leather interior, Monaco Orange exterior
7. Factory Alarm
8. 3.08 Posi Rear.
9. Auxiliary Body Color Hard Top.
The tank sticker shows that this was a hard top ONLY car when delivered. The original orange/black hardtop with the correct dated rear window comes with the car. Since we have owned it, and back through a few previous owners, this car has had a Saddle Tan soft top. This soft top was installed after the car was built by Chevrolet.
I have ownership history back to 1975, then lost the trail. The car was originally delivered to G K Chevrolet, Zone 11, Dealer 227 in Downers Grove, Illinois. I have one large 3 ring binder and several file folders full of restoration receipts from back in the early 90's and from the time of my ownership. I have all NCRS judging sheets.
The car shows 105,000 +/- original miles. The motor was rebuilt in July of 1988. It had 89,700 miles on it at the time of rebuild. The THM trans was rebuilt in July of 1988.
This car was painted in lacquer in 1992. The paint is starting to show its' age. It's got several stress cracks around the hood opening. There are also a number of bubbles appearing in several areas on the body. The original black leather seat covers have deep cracks. One actually has a small hole in the base of the crack. The original door panels and dash are mint. The chrome and SS are very nice.
The frame is rock solid, as is the windshield frame. Everything works, even the headlight washers if you prime them. The car sits on 4 excellent Firestone repro Wide O Oval tires. It has an original Firestone spare. The car also has a complete working original dated smog system.
This car is a veteran of many Mason Dixon Vintage Thunder drag race events. The car turned a best time in the 13.7's, and consistently runs in the 13.8---13.9 range.
The car is located near Crystal River, Florida, about an hour North of Tampa on the Gulf Coast.
My wife and I are long time (30+ year) NCRS members, both 200+ Level Master Judges. This is a slick rare old car, with rare options, that could use a facelift to be concours prepared. The car would easily garner a Top Flight Award as it sits today.
I will be happy to assist with arranging auto transportation. Any transportation fees will be the responibility of the buyer, as will sales taxes, license fees, etc.
I will be happy to pick anyone up at the Tampa, FL airport if they want to look at the car.
There are no guarantees or warranties with this car. I'm a hobbyist, not a dealer.
I will accept PayPal as a deposit. Cash, certified check, cashier's check or wire transfer accepted for payment within 7 days. I will wait for any of these transactions to clear the bank.
If you have any questions, EMail me or post them here. Thank you.

Chevy teases next-gen Volt at fan event in LA
Thu, Nov 20 2014Barely two months before its planned debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Chevrolet has released yet another batch of teaser images of its second-generation Volt. Unlike the first image, though, which just showed the car's rear badge, there's a lot more to this quartet of shots. The first three images show off the nose of the next-gen model and come from a fan event in Los Angeles. What we can see is a sleeker front end, with an evolution of the silver grille inserts previously seen on the original Volt and Spark EV. Gone is the current car's split upper grille, in favor of a more conventional arrangement. The sharper, more angular headlights are also an evolution of the lamps seen on the current Volt. Chevrolet also took the opportunity to announce a new location-based charging system that uses GPS to adjust the vehicle's charge settings, including the charge level, while also announcing that the next-gen car will feature more intuitive charge indicators that will be better able to inform owners of their car's charging level. The tech will mean that the Volt 'knows' when it is parked at home, and can thus automatically optimize charging for off-peak times, and so on. Take a look at the teaser images at the top of the page, and then head below for Chevy's press release announcing the new features. Next-Gen Chevy Volt Offers More User-Friendly Charging 2014-11-20 GPS makes charging more convenient Portable charger is easier to access Intuitive visual cues show charge status DETROIT – If there's one thing Chevrolet Volt owners love about their cars, it's being able to recharge the battery easily. Evidence of that is a U.S. Department of Energy study that shows more than 80 percent of all trips by Volt owners did not use the range extender. Chevrolet has made the charging system in the next-generation Volt even easier for customers to recharge the battery – and to check the charge status. The next-generation Volt debuts in January at the North American International Auto Show. "Chevrolet used the real-world experiences of today's Volt owners to make the charging process simpler and more convenient in the next-generation Volt," said Andrew Farah, chief engineer for the Volt.
Sunday Drive: Trucks and SUVs of all shapes and sizes
Sun, Nov 5 2017The American automotive marketplace is dominated by trucks and SUVs, and so was the last week of coverage on Autoblog. By far, the most popular story of the week was our First Drive of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. It may look like an old-school lumberer, but in reality Lincoln's flagship is a thoroughly modern, turbocharged-V6-powered, three-row, luxury people mover. The Jeep Wrangler is the world's most recognizable vehicle. So it's no surprise that the next version looks a whole heck of a lot like the last one, and the one before. It's all in the details, which is why we were so excited when Jeep decided to unleash a trio of images showing both two- and four-door Wranglers for us to dissect ahead of the SUV's official debut at the L.A. Auto Show later this year. Past that, spy photos of the next Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500 were predictably popular. See both of those below, and the cap it all off, check out the entire week's worth of SEMA coverage – including the bonkers Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 – in our mega image gallery at the bottom of this post. Enjoy! As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2018 Lincoln Navigator First Drive | From black sheep to flagship 2018 Jeep Wrangler revealed: First photos released before L.A. Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
