Up for your consideration is my '62 Corvette. This car has never been off it's frame and drives accordingly. Those who know, once they have been "off-frame", they just don't drive the same. Once you take this car for a ride, you will see exactly what I am referring to. NO rattles, shimmy, squeaks... just a smooth and quite ride. The transmission shifts with one finger, the clutch is perfect and the rear end makes no strange noises. It looks like the car has been off it's frame by the attention and care taken to bring it back to showroom fresh underneath. The floors are beautiful white fiberglass and the detail and correctness is second to none. Will please the fussiest of buyers. Frame stencil, paints daubs, oil filter canister, shifter, and on and on. All correct and all driveline components the car was born with. This is NOT a "put together, find the right parts, numbers matching car". Everything in the drivetrain was put in at the Factory.
The car starts, drives, stops, accelerates, exactly as it should. An absolute pleasure to drive. EVERY SINGLE ITEM ON THE CAR WORKS! Yes, even the wipers, washers, Wonderbar radio and original clock(not a quartz conversion). Anyone who has owned a straight axle Corvette will appreciate what it takes to make that happen! This Corvette is a very early production(#139) so has many characteristics of a '61 such as unpainted rocker moldings, drain plug on Posi, low temp water gauge, different side inserts on front fenders. It is a very correct car from the T-3 headlights to the taillight wicks. Capable of an NCRS Flight Award without a problem if you so desire. Brand new date coded top, first year of the vin stamped on the transmission, original wheels (the spare tire board sits flat because of this), dated wiper motor, correct "O" stamped valve covers, Dill 627 valve caps on the wheels, correct scissor jack and wrench, radio condensers, carb & tag, generator tags, NOS 781 horn relay, bolt markings, clips, harness ties,... nothing overlooked.
I bought the car a little over 7 years ago from the second owner who was a friend of the original owner and he said the car had never seen a drop of water, only dusted and spray waxed. If you look very close, in person, you can see the bonding seams throughout attesting to this car never being hit. There are no cracks anywhere. The paint and finish is show quality with great lines and gaps. All doors , windows, locks (Briggs & Stratton keys) are perfect. Very, very unusual. I took the valve covers off when I got it to verify numbers on the heads, which DO match, and the engine inside is absolutely brand new so I am guessing it has been gone through somewhere along the line. It runs like it has been rebuilt right down to a fully functional automatic choke.
As you can guess, this is not your average eBay Corvette. It can be a very high quality driver or you can simply trailer it to shows. Either way, it will not disappoint. I have all the casting numbers, date codes, & part numbers if you need any, I have the owner's manual, clock instructions, Owner Protection Plan Book and window sticker (which appears to be a reproduction). Please ask questions. The only dumb ones are the ones not asked. The car has always been kept in a climate controlled garage and is the 2nd to last of my liquidated collection. It's that time for me. I have driven the car 327 miles since I purchased (how ironic) 7 years ago. The Title says 54,961 "actual miles".
Please take this Auction seriously, as I do. Continental US Bidders only please. Negative and low feedback bidders please do not bid, contact me first. I have the right to cancel any I see not fit. Cash, check or wire transfer is fine but car and Title will not leave until funds are cleared to my account. I welcome inspections and I have a lift if you would like. Contact me for a time but please do this before the Auction is over, not after. I will respectfully keep my Reserve private and let the Auction run it's course. The car is not for sale anywhere else and I intend to let it run to the end. Thanks for looking and good luck. Ray

Burt Reynolds' movie re-creations fetch $379,500 in Vegas
Wed, Oct 3 2018The recent death of Hollywood legend and automotive enthusiast Burt Reynolds helped drive up the value of four of his former cars from the 1970s and '80s, which sold last weekend at Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas auction for a combined $379,500. Reynolds, who died Sept. 6 at age 82, had offered three Pontiac Trans Ams — two of them re-creations of the cars he drove in "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Hooper" and the third from 1984 used to promote his United States Football League team, the Tampa Bay Bandits. The fourth was a 1978 Chevrolet R30 pickup truck, styled like the one featured in "Cannonball Run." The "Bandit" re-creation, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that Reynolds ordered to be as "movie-correct" as possible but featuring a custom-built 200-4R automatic transmission, sold for $192,500. The car features a freshly built Pontiac 400 cubic-inch V8 mated to a four-speed automatic and featuring all-new Butler Performance parts and air-conditioning components. Reynolds reportedly said this was his favorite car from his films, and it even came with an authentic movie-correct CB radio and CB antenna. The red retro-rocket "Hooper" '78 Firebird, with a 403 cubic-inch V8 and a three-speed automatic, hammered for $88,000. By comparison, a gold 1978 Trans Am also offered at the Las Vegas auction but not connected to Reynolds fetched $27,500. The 1987 Chevy R30 pickup was a re-creation of the Indy Hauler pace truck seen jumping over a moving freight train in "Cannonball Run." It hammered for $49,500. The fourth car never appeared in any of Reynolds' films but is instead the only surviving example of two Trans Ams used to promote the Tampa Bay Bandits of the now-defunct USFL, having been driven out onto the field by Reynolds and his late friend and co-star, Jerry Reed, during opening day one season. It also sold for $49,500. At the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in 2016, Reynolds accompanied a 1977 Trans Am used to promote "Bandit" onto the auction block. That car sold for $550,000. Mother's Day Suggestion No. 2,506
Thu, 02 May 2013With Mother's Day coming up, we're always looking for new gift ideas to celebrate the occasion, but hot laps around a track might not be the best suggestion for Darius Khashabi. In a video posted on YouTube, Khashabi straps his mom into the passenger seat of his C6 Corvette Z06 for some laps around Sonoma Raceway (formerly Infineon Raceway) at "60 percent" with comical results.
Now this isn't the first time Mama Khashabi has gotten seat time in her son's car around a track, as his YouTube page shows him pulling a similar stunt - with similar results - around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca last year. Scroll down for the video, but know that the action really gets going at around the 1:40 mark.
Chevy's 6.6-liter Duramax is pretty much all new
Thu, Sep 29 2016To say there's a heated battle in heavy-duty pickups is an understatement, with Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram constantly trading blows of increased torque, horsepower, and towing capacity. The latest salvo is the revised, more powerful turbo diesel 6.6-liter Duramax V8 in the 2017 Chevy Silverado. It has 910 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 145, putting it nearly level with the Ford Super Duty. Here's a closer look at where those gains come from. How exactly did Chevrolet add all that torque plus 48 horsepower? The automaker essentially took a fine-tooth comb to the entire engine. Chevy says it changed 90 percent of the V8, and the cumulative effect of those small changes adds up to big increases. As you might guess, the turbocharger is updated. The larger unit features electric actuation of the variable nozzle turbine (VNT), and what Chevy calls a double axle cartridge mechanism that separates the VNT moving parts from the housing. That helps with heat performance as well, with a claim that the exhaust side of the turbo can run continuously up to 1,436 degrees Fahrenheit. Helping that cause are six exhaust gaskets made of Inconel - an nickel alloy that contains chromium and iron – and upgraded stainless steel for the exhaust manifold. Despite having the same cast iron cylinder block, albeit with some minor enhancements, the engine has new cylinder heads, pistons, piston pins, connecting rods, and crankshaft, which have all been upgraded to handle 20 percent higher cylinder pressures. Alongside the increase in pressure, Chevrolet also increased the cylinder head's structure with a honeycomb design. The pattern features high-strength aluminum with dual layer water jackets that not only improve strength, but also optimize water flow for better cooling. For 2017, the cylinder head also benefits from integrated plenum that aids the engine in getting more air under heavy loads. The cylinder head isn't the only component to get a minor update, as the pistons have a larger diameter pin for improved oil flow. The same detailed improvements has been bestowed to the humble connecting rods (second in our hearts only to the inanimate carbon rod). The new design has the bolts oriented roughly 45-degrees to the rod instead of parallel. The angle split design, as it's called allows for easier passage through the cylinder.
