Up for sale I have a 1964 Corvair Convertible. The car has, I believe, a 1963 van or truck 102 HP engine. The engine code is T090IV. I know that it has 63 102 HP cylinder heads as I had to remove the right head to have a dropped valve seat repaired. Besides the valve it has new points, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and the carbs have been rebuilt. It starts and runs well. The 4 speed transmission and the differential are I believe original to the car. The rear brakes have new shoes as when I acquired the car one shoe had thrown its lining. The front brakes are in good shape with lots of lining left. I repaired some rust in the back sear area behind the driver seat. This was an area about 6 to 8 inches square. the rest of the floor boards are solid. There is some rust in the floor of the trunk and on the front edge of the trunk lid. I repainted the interior and made new door panels, removed the instrument panel cleaned it and repainted it and installed new black carpet. The convertible top is, I think, original to the car. It goes up and down without a problem and has no rips or tears in it and for being almost 50 years old looks great. It could use a new plastic rear window. The tires will need to be replace, they hold air but I would not drive very far on them. This would be a great low cost car to get into the restoration hobby. Parts are easy to find and there is lots of help out there. I have a clear California title to the car. Feel free to ask questions.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.

Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber
Thu, Dec 7 2017It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks.
