This car was purchased new by Oscar W. Burgess of Plains, Virginia from Fairway Chevrolet Buick in Warrenton, Virginia on May 14, 1964 as indicated on the original Owner's Card which is included with the car.  He kept the car until his death and then the car was transferred to Helen Marie Ray his Daughter of Savage, Maryland on April of 1974.  The last time the car was state inspected prior to her ownership was on November 29, 1972 with a documented 7,034 miles.  All Virginia State Inspections are included with the car documenting the mileage from 1964 through 1972.  The Daughter also retained Maryland State Inspection receipts through the time she sold the car on November 05, 2001 to Charles S. Butler of York, Pennsylvania with 8,786 miles on it. I purchased the car with 9,974 miles which is stated on the bill of sale and Title Assignment as True and Actual Miles.  I had the pleasure of driving the car to 10,001 miles which is the actual miles on the car today.

The original tires and dish hubcaps are included with the car.  I have a new set of correct size Radial tires on the car with new OEM  correct full wheel covers on the car now.  The original tires and dish hubcaps are in perfect shape but with the tires being almost 50 years old I would not want to drive long distances on them but they are perfect for showing the car

The car runs perfectly.  Starts first time every time.  The 3-speed shifts very tightly just like it did when new with no play of any kind.  The clutch engages perfectly.  The steering is tight as it was new with no play at all.  The brakes stop straight and true with no pulling to either side.  All lights work perfectly including the license plate and backup lights.  The high and low beams work perfectly.  The windshield wipers work perfectly with no skipping or streaking.  All windows roll up and down perfectly.  All doors open, close and seal perfectly.  The original tube radio and speakers play perfectly also.  All gauges including the gas gauge work perfectly also.  This car has no mechanical defects.

All paint is 100% original and looks and shines as new.  All bright metal trim is original and there are no pitting or blemishes.  The interior is 100% original and truly looks new also.  All rubber sills around windshield, back glass, windows, doors, etc. are original and are in perfect condition also.  The only place that there are a couple of chips in the paint are at the side of the driver side door sill from getting in and out of the car please look at the photo but they are so small that they barely show.

I have the original Owner's Card from Fairway Chevrolet Buick, the Original Warranty Registration from General Motors,  receipts for maintenance for the car for many years, Original State Inspection Certificates documenting the mileage from both VA and PA. Original Automobile Liability Insurance Service Card issued to Mr. Burgess in 1964,  Original Owner's Guide and Seat Belt Instructions in the original Plastic folder, and much more that will be given to the new purchaser.

I also have a 1964 Corvair ship manual supplement.

The car can be picked up at my home or I will be glad to assist with shipping but Purchaser is to pay all shipping cost.

I require a $500.00 deposit by PayPal at the conclusion of the auction.  The balance is due within 5 days from the auctions close.

Star Wars Car Drives To The Dark Side Of Comic Con

Tue, Jul 22 2014

When it comes to designing coveted collectible toys for sale at Comic-Con, the annual celebration of pop culture lifting off Thursday in San Diego, the sky's the limit for the designers at Mattel. Fittingly, the building where Mattel's dreamers conceive of their limited-edition playthings is just down the street from the Los Angeles International Airport. Inside the colorful design center - a Hot Wheels-themed shuttle bus transports employees from Mattel's parking garage - the designers have spent the past year working on 10 toys created especially for the Comic-Con crowd, including a replica of the Batmobile from the upcoming game "Batman: Arkham Knight" and a 9-inch-tall action figure of Superman killer Doomsday. "We don't have to worry about retail. We don't have to worry about margins," said Doug Wadleigh, Mattel's senior vice president of global brand marketing for boys and entertainment. "We don't have to worry about operational efficiencies. We only have to worry about creating the coolest toys for our fans. Period." It also offers some escape from Mattel's reality these days. Like other toy makers struggling in this digital, video-centric age, the company is trying to remain relevant in the retail world. Core brands like Barbie have seen less of a demand, with a 14 percent drop in sales in the first quarter of this year. Mattel had a net loss for the first three months ending March 31 that totaled $11.2 million. But things will at least seem rosier at Comic-Con, where eager buyers for the toys await (the only other place they will be sold is on the Mattel collector's site). Mattel's exclusives this year run between $20 and $85, but elite toys can fetch much more when they're put up for auction. The crown jewel for Wadleigh and his team this year is a Darth Vader die-cast car, the first official collaboration from Hot Wheels and the "Star Wars" franchise. The car - imagine if a Chevrolet Corvette C5 and the villainous Sith lord's helmet had a baby - comes in a sleek black box and encased in a replica of Vader's lightsaber, complete with a swooshing sound effect. "We've been trying to partner with Lucasfilm and Disney on this property for a long time," said Wadleigh. A full-size working replica of the Vadermobile will be on display at Mattel's booth at the massive San Diego Convention Center.

Safety group pans GM’s new Marketplace in-dash shopping

Wed, Dec 6 2017

When it comes to our cars, is the Internet of Things a godsend? Or a hidden menace that will create more problems than it will solve? On the same day General Motors announced it will equip newer-model cars with its in-dash Marketplace e-commerce app, a prominent safety group was shooting it down. National Safety Council President Deborah Hersman tells Bloomberg the technology will only contribute to distracted driving and hurt efforts to stem the tide of rising auto fatalities, which grew 5.6 percent to more than 37,000 in the U.S. in 2016. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says distracted driving was responsible for 3,477 fatalities and 391,000 injuries in 2015, the most recent year for which it has data. "There's nothing about this that's safe," Hersman told Bloomberg. "If this is why they want WiFi in the car, we're going to see fatality numbers go up even higher than they are now." Marketplace, developed with IBM, will allow drivers — or more often, one hopes, their passengers — to order coffee or food, find gas stations and reserve hotel rooms from their dashboard screens. The technology is set to be uploaded automatically to nearly 1.9 million GM vehicles model-year 2017 and later that are equipped with WiFi hotspots and compatible systems. By the end of 2018, about 4 million Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles will be equipped with Marketplace. The app will debut with a limited number of participating retailers, including TGI Fridays, Shell, Exxon Mobil and Starbucks, with more likely to join later. Online retail giant Amazon is also partnering with automakers such as Ford to bring e-commerce capabilities inside the car through its Alexa personal assistant. While convenience is nice, one other thing is becoming clear as the IoT wedges its way into our cars: It's taking aim at some decidedly first-world problems.Related Video: Image Credit: GM Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC Technology Infotainment in-car entertainment marketplace e-commerce

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum Sport Coupe

Wed, Aug 23 2023

Before General Motors created the Geo brand for cars built or designed by its overseas partners, the Chevrolet Division put its badges on U.S.-market versions of the Toyota Corolla Sprinter, the Suzuki Cultus and the Isuzu Gemini. Those cars were known as the Nova, the Sprint and the Spectrum, and all became Geos starting with the 1989 model year. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of the last Chevy Spectrums ever sold, found in a Denver self-service yard a few months ago. Midway through 1988, the Chevrolet Spectrum abruptly became the Geo Spectrum and was assigned to the 1989 model year. This car was built in May 1988, making it one of the very last of the pre-Geo Spectrums. The Chevrolet/Geo Spectrum was available as a four-door sedan and as a three-door hatchback, from the 1985 through 1989 model years. For 1988 only, a Spectrum Sport Coupe package, featuring some trim upgrades and these rad decals, could be had on the hatchback. This car was essentially identical to its Isuzu-badged counterpart, the I-Mark. In 1988, the MSRP for the cheapest possible Chevy Spectrum hatchback (the stripped-down Spectrum Express) was $6,495, while its somewhat better-equipped I-Mark twin started at $7,439 (that's $17,128 and $19,617 in 2023 dollars). Meanwhile, the base Hyundai Excel hatchback listed at $5,295 and the Yugo GV cost a hilarious $4,199 ($13,963 and $10,941 in today's money). Power came from this 1.5-liter SOHC four-cylinder, rated at 70 horsepower. A turbocharged version with 110 horsepower was available as well. You could get an automatic transmission in the Spectrum, but this car has the base five-speed manual. This car didn't get the optional air conditioning, but at least it has the traditional Isuzu HVAC control icons featuring blow-dried hair and high-heeled dominatrix boots. Just over 170,000 miles on the odometer. Someone installed a pretty good (for the 1980s) Blaupunkt Charlotte CR148 cassette deck in the dash. This was a necessity if you wanted to enjoy full appreciation of the music of the era. The Spectrum is special! It's as slick as city rain. "I didn't spend a lot of money but with my Spectrum it looks like I did." Joe Isuzu mocked Toyota salesmen when pitching the I-Mark. As was nearly always the case during the 1980s, the JDM ads for the same car were much more fun. They should have recreated this commercial with Spectrums.
