This was one of several older cars that I purchased a couple years ago. It has been sitting out, unprotected from the elements and thieves for more than 30 years. Despite that, it is pretty complete and possibly restorable. I don't have the energy to do it so I'm passing on the opportunity to someone else. I know very little about it so I'll show you some pictures and then answer any questions you might have about it. The biggest catch to it is that it is located just outside Blanding, UT 84511. Although we're not at the end of nowhere, you can see it from it (nowhere, that is!) What that means is that it is difficult and expensive to get vehicles hauled from here. Even a minimal hauling charge will run you more than what you'll probably be able to buy the car for. So please take that into consideration before tying up a lot of my time answering your questions or bidding on it. However, if you're truly interested, I will do all I can to answer any and all questions you might have, or provide you with additional pictures as needed. The car is sold where is: as is, with no warranties expressed or implied. I can help load it; but, as far as I know, I don't even have any wheels that would fit on it, so take that into consideration as well when figuring out if you really need it. I do have it for sale locally, but once I get a bid on it, it will no longer be for sale here -- so that I don't waste your time and efforts if you're a sincere bidder. First 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray spotted crashed in the wild
Tue, 12 Feb 2013This restyled blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is wearing manufacturer plates, and it appears to be the same one seen around the internet in various pictures lately. This crash is likely not part of the Chevrolet testing regimen, however. Digital Corvettes forum member gpetry posted the shot with a note: "got this picture e-mailed from a friend in Arizona last week..." No circumstances are given, other than the incident occurred in the thick of a set of curvy roads, and the coupe ping-ponged off a guardrail and into the rock wall. Hopefully everyone involved in the incident walked away.
It may not be a pretty thing to see, a crashed sports car that's not even available for sale yet, but rest easy. Many pre-production cars are used for development and then unceremoniously crushed and scrapped, anyway. If that's the case here, that makes this wrecked 'Vette less of a tragedy and more of a case of exceptional efficiency.
GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value
Thu, 12 Jun 2014Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
Corvette Stingray Shooting Brake under consideration by Callaway [w/poll]
Mon, 18 Mar 2013Callaway has released a few renderings of a design study for a shooting brake version of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The company says it wants to create a long-roof version of America's sports car to offer buyers more interior room and a vehicle with "unique style." The company says it will use structural carbon fiber for the new body bits, which suggests the conversion shouldn't add too much more weight to the Corvette. Along with a few mechanical tweaks, the Callaway Corvette Stingray AeroWagon could breeze past the 200 miles per hour barrier.
Provided that they get enough interest, Callaway estimates they will be able to effect the changes on the Chevrolet for around $15,000, and says the conversion work should be available through its network of dealers.
