1961 Corvair Rampside Pickup Truck. Most unusual eye catching truck. First year Rampside model, updated with 1964 features, such as though the gas tank shift linkage for easier shifting. Generator replaced with alternator, manual choke with automatic choke, red painted wheels (as seen in one or two of the pictures) with factory "mag" wheels, and brake lines replaced with stainless steel lines. Wheel cylinders may be in need to be rebuilt. Engine needs repair, my mechanic was revving up the engine to 6 or 7 thousand revs when it stopped abruptly with a ka lunk bump bump. it seemed to come from the #6 cylinder. To me it sounded like a connecting rod gave out, but I haven't opened the engine to see. Other than that, the window glass is 100%, with just a hint of windshield scratch. Body has only one dent, a 3" circle one near the radio antenna. All 4 tires show very little tread wear. Rust appears on the corner of the doors, pictures show the worst ones. The truck comes with a bench seat out of a corvair van, great for giving the beauty queen and her first and second runners up a ride in a local parade. The horn has been replaced with a after market one that gives you the choice of 25 different sounds including Ah-hoo-ga and "wolf whistle." Included are parts to add dual flame throwers to the exhaust system. To see what this truck truck could become google "Jay Leno Rampside pickup." I would like to fix it my self as the parts are available and reasonably price, but I suffer from Parkinson's Syndrome and don't have the stamina to do the repairs. it has advanced to a stage that I can't do repairs any more. |

2014 Corvette Stingray meets Tesla Model S in drag strip showdown
Wed, Jan 29 2014They come from two different worlds and have little in common. The Tesla Model S P85 is the sportiest version of this paradigm-punching sedan from California, while the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a performance-enhanced version of Michigan's recently-updated sports car stalwart. The West Coast car seats five adults and eats electrons like Popeye eats spinach, the Easterner has two passenger places and, surprisingly, sips gasoline like one might bourbon. An attribute they do happen to share is extreme quickness. This similarity is all the excuse Drag Times needed to set the vehicles beside each other at the Palm Beach International Raceway for a bit of mano-a-mano quarter-mile combat. Fortunately enough, cameras were rolling for each of two bouts down the blacktop and the results recorded for our edification and enlightenment. The winner? Nissan Leaf sets another monthly sales record, Chevy Volt remains steady
Mon, Nov 3 2014Here we go again. Another month in the books and another month of record sales by the Nissan Leaf in the US. For October, the world's best-selling pure EV sold 2,589 units, which is 29.3 percent more than October 2013. That makes it 20 times in a row that Nissan can say that last month sales were better than the same month a year before. All told, Nissan has sold 24,411 Leafs in the US this year, a new record, reflecting an overall Leaf sales rate that is up 35 percent, year-to-date. Nissan isn't stopping, either. A new TV ad, one that, "encourages consumers to kick gas" by saving money on fuel will start airing today in major markets, according to Toby Perry, director of Nissan's EV marketing. You can watch it below. As for the Chevy Volt, things remained steady last month in the face of a new model that's coming in the second half of 2015. Chevy sold 1,439 Volts last month, which is about the same as September (1,394) but down 28.8 percent from the October 2013 despite GM having its best overall US October sales this year since 2007. So far, 2014 Volt year-to-date sales are down 14.9 percent through the end of October compared to 2013.
