For Sale: 1960 Corvair 500 Sedan. 80 hp flat 6 air cooled engine with 3 speed manual trans. Included with the car is all of the stainless trim from a 700 sedan along with a container of new parts to include complete engine reseal gaskets, new lenses for the front turn signals and NOS parts for the rears and some interior parts etc... The front floors have rust but I undercoated them to seal the cabin and installed a new carpet from Clarks Corvair Parts (my new parts source). The carpet install needs to be completed (sill panels) and the new kick panels installed. I changed out the steering wheel for a period correct 60's hot rod wheel and had new door panels made in metallic vinyl by J&T 'Vairs in Des Moines Iowa. The front seat bottom was stripped and poly foam installed. Not "correct" but comfortable. (check out the seat covers and hula girl) I was going for a 70's era surf car theme. Car runs and drives great but I would suggest resealing the pushrod tubes etc to correct an oil leak and going through the wheel cylinders to get the brakes working better. I ran the gas out of the car so the ethanol wouldn't phase separate and cause corrosion in the fuel system. When we got the car it was set up with tow bar mounts and a new towbar is included for transport. The car has been garaged since I've had it and is currently in my shop in Burton for inspection. The paint was redone some years ago and has a few primer spots but overall the car is in superb shape for its age (albeit the front floors as mentioned)

The car includes NOS front mats I bought for $150.00 (usually over $300.00) and is equipped with the optional gas heater which also comes with a new exhaust pipe. The trunk area is virtually perfect for a 54 year old car and has the proper stock rubber trunk floor covering (very rare to find in this condition) I also am including some NOS Chinook helicopter seatbelts with the car (old school style racing belts) There are more new/used parts included but without doing an inventory this will have to do for now. I do have a new/used speedometer as well. The old one is working fine but has some surface rust on the scale area. The factory AM radio works fine but could use a new speaker. The grill bar on the front is an NOS replacement. The original is included in the parts stash....

Under the dash is a switch box to put the car in being towed mode and there is a jack in the trunk area and a cable to hook to the tow vehicle included. Spare tire, Lugwrench and Jack in excellent condtion as well.

I have 2 other Corvairs and this one is just sitting so I'm putting it up for sale to fix up the others.

There is a myriad of forums and information available online.

(Clear title in my name for immediate transfer. Car is currently insured/tagged and includes a new towbar to move it. Will need gas and maintenance as stated above to be road ready. I would not rate this as a "project" btw, far too nice for a 54 year old car!!!)

If you want a cool collector car for a cheap price or have an old school teenager at home this is the perfect driver quality vintage car!!! the roofline is very low with regard to other cars. This is one cool old school sled!!!

I do not recall the mileage as the car is in storage at my shop but believe it to be under 100k. Car is all original except for the items I added (door panels/steering wheel etc)

2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra debut all-new designs, three new engines

Thu, 13 Dec 2012

General Motors has finally dropped the curtain on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra. Both trucks have undergone substantial revisions with updated versions of the company's 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 engines. In a shot across the bows of both Ford and Chrysler, GM says it won't use a V6 engine adapted from passenger car applications. Instead, it developed the 4.3-liter engine based on its proven truck-duty architecture.
All three mills will boast direct injection fuel systems as well as a new cylinder head design. Combined with a revised piston, the new engines feature a smaller combustion chamber with a compression ratio of 11:1 or higher depending on the application. Cylinder deactivation and continuously variable valve timing are all part of the recipe, and each engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with auto grade breaking. So far, no fuel economy or horsepower figures have been released, though GM says the new engines will best their predecessors in both areas.
Outside, the trucks feature a number of enhancements to reduce drag and wind noise, and GM claims both the Silverado and Sierra will offer buyers some of the quietest cabins in the class. Extended cab models now feature front-hinged rear doors to allow easier access to the back passenger area, and Crew Cab buyers can now select between a five-foot, eight-inch bed or a six-foot, six-inch bed. Buyers with a mind toward going off road will also rejoice in the return of the Z71 package, complete with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and additional under-body protection.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.
