2.5 inch lift looks perfect with 33-inch tires and rally wheels.

Top quality restoration and lots of factory options.  Doors, hood and tailgate are solid and precise, side glass rolls up and down silky smooth, sparkling clear lenses and stunning exterior bright work . . .

The kind of build quality everybody looks for.  (and happily pays for)

Unbelievably good looking truck looks butch from all angles.  Spectacular panel and trim alignment, beautiful glass and knee-deep in rubber . . .

Old school solid axles with Warn manual locking front hubs.

Dual exhaust, 2-speed transfer case and tow hitch receiver . . .

Foy's attempt at a history lesson from the documentation provided . . .

The first owner leased this truck new, taking delivery January 22, 1971 at Kauffman Chevrolet in Colfax, California.  As best I can tell, he drove it about 13 years, traveling a little over 86,000 miles.  It passed to the second owner (still in Colfax) toward the latter part of 1984, mileage increasing to roughly 120,000 over the next 11 years.  This guy did a lot of maintenance and unlike the original owner, kept all his receipts.  The third owner (in nearby Orangevale, California) paid for the vehicle with a credit union check dated February 14, 1995 and would turn the odometer over once more during the next 18 years.  Besides putting on the most miles, this owner did the most work to the truck.  He had the original motor rebuilt about four months after purchase and afterward, wrote down dates, oil changes and mileage anywhere handy.  I found entries on pages in the owner's manual, scribbled on pieces of paper and some I discovered accidently on the back of parts receipts.  Looking at his purchases, you find things such as; he tried two carburetors before settling on a third.  He had a couple of different exhaust systems installed, swapped the mufflers for the ones on the truck now and then changed the tailpipes.  The lift kit was installed during this time, along with all the body and paint work, window tint, spray-in bed liner, steering and suspension rebuild, a few starters, couple of alternators, several tune-ups and brake jobs and a new interior.  Not sure if he sold it or what but the title was signed over last November to a dealer in Sacramento, with 01,646 on the odometer. (201,646)  A friend of Doug's (VLVA owner) in Canada bought it less than a month later and brought it to us with 01,763 showing. (201,763) It now has 201,801 miles and is basically a show truck.  I listed everything I could find in the table a few pictures above.  It's interesting reading. (if you're into that kind of thing) . . .

                                                                                                                                                                                                    -Foy

This series Chevy truck has been a favorite since day one.

I love all vintage GM pickups but this Cheyenne short bed has been a coveted dream vehicle of mine since I first watched it roll off the carrier the day it arrived.  As far as I'm concerned, this truck is absolutely perfect.  The body is smooth, straight and beautiful with gorgeous paint, and somebody got the stance exactly right with the 2.5 inch lift.  Walk closer and you'll see chrome and stainless that does not look 43 years old.  No masking or overspray boo-boos either; this bad boy was completely disassembled and carefully put back together.  Open the door, you'll feel and see nothing but quality and the Cheyenne package really dresses up this cabin.  Turn the key and the rebuilt original 350 fires instantly, sounds awesome and pulls like a freight train.  Transmission shifts perfect and all new steering and suspension means this truck probably tracks down the road better than it ever did when new.  I love this truck.  Unfortunately, it's a dream I'll never experience but you can have it.  Is this the nicest 1971 Chevrolet K10 Cheyenne short bed 4x4 on the planet?  I think so.

Show quality interior with all new weather stripping and seals . . .

Carpet, door panels, headliner, dash all look great and everything works.  Except the air conditioner (everything in place, no v-belt) and the radio.  (works when it wants)

350 Cubic Inch V8 Engine

250 horsepower @ 4,600/350 ft-lb torque @ 3,000 RPM (stock figures)

Original, numbers matching engine is completely rebuilt, making more power than stock.  Edelbrock 600 cfm 4-barrel, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and Dynomax dual exhaust . . .

All new steering and suspension, beautifully detailed . . .

3.73 posi rear axle and receiver tow hitch.  Also included with the sale: five (probably vintage) road flares, a Chevy truck steering wheel from the '70s, (or '80s) and a carpeted thingybob that goes behind the seat.  You'll probably take it out to gain an inch or so much needed legroom . . .

GM puts e-commerce shopping in car dashboards

Tue, Dec 5 2017

DETROIT — General Motors on Tuesday said it will equip newer cars with in-dash e-commerce technology, betting it can profit as drivers order food, find fuel or reserve hotel rooms by tapping icons on the dashboard screen, instead of using smartphones while driving. GM's Marketplace technology, developed with IBM, will be uploaded automatically to about 1.9 million model-year 2017 and later vehicles starting immediately, with about 4 million vehicles across the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands equipped with the capability in the United States by the end of 2018, GM said. GM will get an undisclosed amount of revenue from merchants featured on its in-dash Marketplace, Santiago Chamorro, GM vice president for global connected customer experience, said during a briefing for reporters. Customers will not be charged for using the service or the data transmitted to and from the car while making transactions, he said. "This platform is financed by the merchants," Chamorro said. GM will get paid for placing a merchant's application on its screens, and "there's some level of revenue sharing" based on each transaction, he said. It is too soon to say how much revenue GM could realize from the Marketplace system, he said. The GM Marketplace will compete for customer clicks and revenue with hand-held smartphones, which offer a far richer array of applications than the GM system will at the outset. Amazon.com is partnering with other automakers, including Ford, to offer in-car e-commerce capability through Amazon's Alexa personal assistant system. For example, GM will launch Marketplace with just Shell and Exxon Mobil icons in the fuel category. The only restaurant available for in-car table reservations at launch is the chain TGI Fridays, GM said. In addition, there will be apps for parking, and ordering ahead at coffee shops and restaurants such as Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and Applebee's. "We will be adding more vendors," with some coming in the first quarter of 2018, Chamorro said. In addition, he said GM plans to expand integration into its vehicles of music, news and other information services. GM also hopes to use its in-car Marketplace connections to expand purchases of products and services, such as additional access to in-car wifi, from its own replacement parts business and dealer network. Customers can "expect to see more service promotions coming through the platform," Chamorro said. Reporting by Joe WhiteRelated Video:

GM will recall more than 3.3 million vehicles in China for suspension defect

Sat, Sep 29 2018

BEIJING (Reuters) - General Motors' joint venture in China, Shanghai GM, will recall more than 3.3 million Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles stating Oct. 20 because of a defect with the suspension system, China's market regulator said on Saturday. GM Shanghai said in a text message to Reuters that the suspension arm may be deformed under extreme operating conditions, but there are no known casualties related to the issue. The recall includes cars produced between 2013 and 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement. GM will contact those affected and repair the vehicles free of charge, it said. What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?

Thu, Feb 5 2015

The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.
