1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Ss on 2040-cars
Reese, Michigan, United States
Feel free to ask me any questions about the car : whitneywssweezey@ukno.com .This ad features a really nice car I am selling from a friend’s collection. He recently had a his first child and
has decided to thin his car herd so he can focus on his growing family herd! So while he is ready to cut this car
loose it is not a forced sale, more of a common sense sale. This car does not have the correct engine/transmission
but instead has a 454 V-8 and 400 TurboHydramatic transmission out of a 1974 Chevelle which is a very suitable
upgrade and a 12 bolt posi-traction differential. This is a real SS, but originally was a 350 V8. It runs strong
and looks great. As you read through the write up you will see everything has either been rebuilt or replaced
mechanically on the car. This is a great driver and ready to go as it sits. Now I should qualify that usually
"driver" quality on eBay usually means piece of crap. Let's be clear this is a really nice car, but by no means a
trailer queen either, hence a great car to drive, and will show well at most local car shows and cruise-ins. The
car collects lots of attention whether it's cruising down the street or parked.

rear and have nice clean sound quality. Radio has excellent sound quality, professional installation. All

Transmission Grade OK: Original style 400 THM automatic transmission. Transmission is free of any leaks. I don't
know anything about the transmission internals but it appears to have been rebuilt. It has an aftermarket
adjustable vacuum modulator, and the torque converter appears to have been replaced with an aftermarket street
performance converter (B & M?????).
Trans fluid is clean, and free of any burned smell. Shifts crisp but not to harsh. Features original steal vacuum
modulator line and cooling lines.
Brakes Grade A: Factory equipped with JL2 Power Front Disc brakes. Brakes are fully serviced with new pads,
bearings cleaned & greased. Rear brakes are drum style with new pads and springs. Brakes perform to factory
specifications. Fresh installation.
Engine Grade A: Original 350 was missing when the car was purchased. Currently the engine compartment holds a 1974
Chevrolet 454 with 4BBL. The intake and heads are 1966 Chevrolet Passenger parts a top a 1974 454 Chevelle 454
block. It is a well thought out combination that provides a gas pump friendly compression. Engine is clean and
show ready detailed. Installation is clean and professional and stock in appearance. Engine is equipped with brand
factory chrome valve covers, is painted the correct era paint. Engine was professionally rebuilt when owned by a
previous owner but came with no receipts. The motor is clean inside (valve covers were removed for inspection) and
is free of any noises or knocks, and there is no smoke upon start-up cold or warm, and is free of any oil or
coolant leaks, supporting the claim of a recent/fresh rebuild. Engine has a slight lopey idle but pulls 25 inches
of vacuum, the carburetor has been modified and freshly rebuilt with parts from Cliff's HP and dialed in to the
engine modification combination and pulls smooth right off idle without hesitation through acceleration. Engine is
equipped with functioning factory style electric choke that works as designed by the factory. Engine pulls hard
under acceleration, no black smoke, and carburetor responds better then fuel injection. Engine features new
starter, alternator, radiator, hoses, plus fresh tune-up with cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. Brackets are all
factory and period correct and installation is professional. Car also features a brand new four row radiator (not a
re-core), with 7 bladed fan with thermostatic factory style clutch.
Summary:
This car looks great driving down the road, and frankly, even up close, it is very presentable for most local car
shows or cruises. It is a very nice car to drive with smooth acceleration, and clean comfortable cabin. The
performance idle through the chambered mufflers makes it a hit at the cruise in or at the stop light. The car has a
strong running 454 which is desirable upgraded and greatly improves the overall driving experience of the car. Ride
is firm, but comfortable for a long drive. Operation is very reliable and without issue and the engine pulls hard
off idle up to 5000 rpm. It is a lot of fun to kick down at a roll as the car sets you back in the seat and smokes
the tires. The suspension launches straight with no wheel hop when you mat it and spins the tires without brake
torquing. The car as is would make a great reliable, daily driver that would be a blast to drive everyday to work.
It is really a fun car to drive with its throaty exhaust and excellent power. This car offers a lot of potential
with some light trim work will only will only improve the value of this car.
Other then some minor interior detailing, this car needs nothing else replaced and is road ready for cruising.
Mechanically it has been totally gone through and all maintenance items (battery, alternator, brakes, radiator,
etc) are new and have been replaced! You can drive this car literally anywhere without issue. So if doing a full
restoration or building a bad news street terror is outside your skills level but your looking a for a great
musclecar this the car for you. When you consider the full restoration numbers matching cars run $50K plus and most
of the cars below $10K, well let's just say are in need of a lot of work.
That said I have tried my best to represent this car as honestly as possible, however it is sold as is and there is
no warranty implied or otherwise stated.

Vert-A-Pac train cars kept your Chevy Vega's price in check
Fri, 01 Mar 2013Our apologies to those who've seen this before, but for the rest of the class, how awesome are these pictures of the Vert-A-Pac shipping system General Motors came up with to ship the Chevrolet Vega back in the 1970s? Developed along with Southern Pacific Railroad, GM was able to double the amount of Vega models it could ship by packing them into the unique storage cars vertically.
At the time, rail cars could fit 15 vehicles each, but Chevrolet was able to lower shipping costs by making it possible to ship 30 Vegas per rail car, in turn allowing the price of the Vega to remain as low as possible. Each rail car had 30 doors that would fold down so that a Vega could be strapped on, and then a forklift would come along and lift the door into place. All the cars were positioned nose down, and since they were shipped with all of their required fluids, certain aspects had to be designed specifically for this type of shipping, including an oil baffle in the engine, a special battery and even a repositioned windshield washer reservoir. See for yourself in our image gallery above.
GM veteran Bryan Nesbitt tapped to head Buick design
Sat, Jun 6 2015General Motors styling veteran Bryan Nesbitt (pictured above) took over a new role on Monday as executive director of global Buick design and global architectures. Andrew Smith, who previously did that job and also coordinated the look for Cadillac, has remained in charge of the pen at Caddy with this shift. Nesbitt rose to prominence when he designed the Chrysler PT Cruiser, according to Automotive News. He joined GM in 2001 and has been there ever since in multiple high-level roles. In 2007, he was appointed vice president of design for North America and was later briefly general manager of Cadillac in 2009-2010. Nesbitt took over as the vice president of GM's international operations design in China in 2011. This shuffle also moves Ken Parkinson, currently styling boss for Chevrolet trucks, to China as design vice president there. In addition, John Cafaro becomes the person in charge of the look for Chevy globally, rather than previously splitting that role between cars and trucks with Parkinson. GM Global Design Leadership Changes – effective June 1, 2015. Bryan Nesbitt, Design Vice President, GM China will repatriate to North America and assume the position of Executive Director, Global Buick and Global Architectures. He will be located in Warren, MI. Bryan will be the design Champion for Buick in the US and China. Ken Parkinson, Executive Director, Global Chevrolet Trucks and Global Architecture will assume the position of Design Vice President, GM China. He will be based in Shanghai, China. Andrew Smith, Executive Director, Global Cadillac and Buick Design will assume the position of Executive Director, Global Cadillac. He will continue to be the design Champion for the Cadillac brand. In addition, he will continue to lead the Global Color & Trim team. He will be based in Warren, Michigan. John Cafaro, Executive Director, Global Chevrolet Cars will assume the position of Executive Director, Global Chevrolet. He will be the design Champion for Chevrolet. In addition, John will lead the exterior components and accessories team. He will continue to be based in Warren, MI. Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car
Wed, 20 Feb 2013We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
