WOW.....Insanely nice car at this price! I have for sale my 1971 Chevelle 454 SS in a NO RESERVE auction. I hate to part with it but need some money to put a pool in so she must go. A few of the details about the car to start.......The VIN and Body Tag indicates she came off the line as a factory Yellow, top of the line, Chevelle Malibu Coupe with bucket seats, center console and a V8. Originally she had saddle cloth interior, but somewhere along the line someone converted it to black with paint and die. As you can see from the pictures, the car has everything on it that the SS package entails, but being as Chevy changed the way they did the SS package in 1971, there is no way to know if it came as an SS or not other than the original window sticker or build sheet, which I do not have. I will say that from working on the car everything that is there seems to be original so I would bet it was a factory SS, but can't say for sure. Also as you can see from the pictures, the Yellow paint is absolutely eye popping. It is impossible not to be noticed in this car. The paint polishes up extremely nice, but it is a driver, so there are some chips on the car and there are some areas around the hood edges where the paint is chipped off, but you have to look to find them.

Now for the really good stuff......yes that is a 12 bolt posi rear end under the car and a brand new 700R4 automatic transmission. Also, notice that the entire underside of the car was cleaned and coated a little while back, along with the coating in the trunk. I just got back from the street machine nationals and not only was the car a crowd favorite but that overdrive tranny makes it a great car to cruise down the highway or for showing off a little on the cruise grounds. If you can make it out in the picture, I also included the revised shift indicator in the console to indicate it has overdrive. Under the hood, is a REALLY strong 454 that motivates this heavy Chevy right on down the road. Whether you like liquidating tires or dragging down the quarter mile, this motor will make it happen. It has headers, a Demon carb., and notice the brand new BeCool radiator installed to name a few parts. Car idles great and drives out really smooth, and motor is a nice mix of muscle car yet streetable. If you have ever owned a big block muscle car than you know what I am talking about, and if you have not, well you will quickly find out why we are always smiling. I would say that my starting price is probably enough to cover the cost of the drivetrain on this car so you are getting an amazing deal, check the others out for comparison.

The car has a clean Illinois title and can be viewed in person if you will contact me to make arrangements. Please serious bidders only. Please fill free to ask any questions as the car is being sold in as is condition.

This SEMA special drag race is absurdly awesome

Fri, Dec 5 2014

The SEMA Show came and went last month, and it showed us a ton of heavily modded goodies to dream about during the long, cold winter. The Motor Trend Channel on YouTube is keeping the party rolling a little longer, though, with a drag race inspired by the aftermarket event. All of the hosts were supposed to borrow a vehicle from the show for the big race, but only two of them actually cajoled companies into lending their wares. Still, the result includes four very cool and extremely different examples of the breadth of the automotive hobby. First up, there's a 1955 Chevrolet with a 535-cubic-inch (8.8-liter) Hemi V8 stuffed under the hood. Appropriately, it's dubbed the Blasphemi, and with skinny tires up front, fat rubber in the rear and a stripped interior, this this is made to go very fast in a straight line. Next, there's a stock Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat boasting 707 horsepower. Plus, host Jessi Lang has her dog riding shotgun for the race. A Chevy Sonic RS with some body mods, downpipe and intake is also competing. Finally, the most bizarre of the quartet is a custom 1958 Jeep Forward Control with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and treads to replace the wheels. Obviously, the Blasphemi and Hellcat are the only two that really have a chance of winning, but check out the video to see which one crosses the finish line first. Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

Next Chevy Silverado could get this built-in tailgate step

Thu, Feb 2 2017

General Motors just received patent approval for a tailgate step in a pickup bed. And given the timing, don't be surprised if you see this on the upcoming 2019 Silverado pickup (not the mention its GMC Sierra twin), expected to arrive in late 2018. According to the patent, granted in December of last year, the whole mechanism is housed in the tailgate assemble. The magic happens when a portion of the top half of the tailgate swings down and a step folds out. There's also a handle that locks into position to help climb up into the bed. As trucks get bigger and taller over the years, it gets harder and harder to access the cargo bed. Ford's solution with the 2009 F-150 was a step that slides out from the end of the tailgate. Back then, Chevy made an ill-advised ad highlighting the feature for Ford. And while Howie Long mocked the F-150's "man step" Ford saw almost a third of its trucks with the option in the first year. The GM design seems to improve on Ford's idea as it appears to be wider and has a back to the lower step. That is, you don't have to worry about stepping through the ladder-rung design as on the F-150. Ford's tailgate step later spread to the F Super Duty, and other cargo access assists have proliferated through the truck world. On the most recent redesign, the Chevrolet Silverado took a trick from the Avalanche and added cutouts to the corners of the rear bumper that act as a foothold. Ford also offers a deployable side step, Chevrolet has running boards that scoot rearward with a kick of the boot, and Ram offers fixed wheel-to-wheel side rails. Nissan is in on the game too, with an optional folding step that tucks under the rear bumper. We don't expect Chevrolet to comment on when or if we'll see this feature in the showrooms. But given that engineers are already hard at work on the next Silverado and the timing of this patent lines right up with the new truck's development cycle, we'll be disappointed if this patent stays in the file cabinet.
