This is a 1969 Chevelle that I have owned since 1995.  I purchased this car in Arlington, Texas. The body had approximately 54,000 miles on it and it was not registered since about 1977 until I bought it.  It was the most rust free body I had ever seen.  It had a hole about the size of a quarter in the passenger side quarter panel.  The window channels in the front and rear are perfect and never messed with.  This car has went through a frame on restoration and I done most of the work myself  except finishing the body, paint and buffing.  This car has it's original quarters, doors, trunk floor, floor pans and was stripped to bare metal.   I did replace the original front fenders with G.M. N.O.S. that I purchased in 1985.  The only repop sheet metal is the trunk lid and it fits nice and shuts great.  All the stainless window trim is original and was polished on the front and rear plus the roof rail chrome.  The fender well chrome as well as the SS 396 Fender emblems are N.O.S.  The grill is the original grill but the chrome trim is repro and fits better than most.  The tail light bezels are original and are in really nice shape.  The rear bumper is an original OEM bumper that was rechromed but the front one is a repro and both are really nice.  The car was originally Butternut Yellow with a black interior but I had it repainted with Dupont Chromabase Monaco Orange with Clear shot on top and installed the Parchment Interior.

The Parchment Interior came from Legendary and the quality surpasses their competition  by a mile.  The bucket seat foams were replaced as well.  It also has a factory gauge package that was restored by Specialty Instruments.  All the gauges and speedometer work and the clock keeps perfect time.  Also has the optional stock radio plate when the radio would was not wanted.  The dash bezel is new as well as the steering wheel.  The console is an original one with a repro top bezel but all the rest of the parts and the shifter are OEM.

The engine sitting under the hood was rebuilt by "Ohio George Montgomery" in Dayton, Ohio.  It is a 2 bolt main 454 which was bored out .030 and TRW 2465 F domed pistons were installed with the open chamber heads it has right around 9.8 to 1 compression so you can use pump gas.  New ARP rod bolts installed and the crank was balanced after being turned .010 on the mains and rods.  The camshaft is a Crane .533 .533 lift with 228 duration @ .050 lift with a 108 centerline.  The cylinder heads are 049 casting open chamber heads that have had 2.19 intake valves and 1.88 exhaust valves with hardened seats installed and pocket ported by Dave Laird at Heads Up in Dayton, Ohio.  Comp cams steel full roller rockers sit on top with 3/8" push rods.  The oval port Wieand intake was port matched to the heads and the Q-Jet sitting on top was restored by Eric Jackson of Vintage Musclecar Parts. Distributor is a Petronix Billet Flame Thrower lll with a built in rev limiter set at 5600 rpms.  The exhaust manifolds dump into Pypes stainless steel head pipes and they run into Thrush Welded Turbo mufflers then hits the mandrel bent Flowmaster tail pipes and exit out the stock big block exhaust extensions.  The whole system is 2 1/2" all the way through.  We ran the car on the dyno a couple runs and it made 340 hp at the rear wheels.  The engine has 50-55 lbs of oil pressure when cold and when warmed up it has around 30-35 at idle.

Transmission is a Turbo 400 short shaft that was originally in a 1968 Impala.  It has been gone through totally with everything new that could be put in.  It shifts firm but not enough to destroy u-joints and it will bark the tires easily into 2nd gear when shifting manually. The original kickdown switch works as it should and it has a Hughe's 2500 stall converter that you don't even notice when driving.  The 12 Bolt rearend has had a new Eaton Posi intstalled with a new 3.73 ring and pinion with Moser Axles with no wining or roaring going down the road.

The whole cooling system is new with a 4 row radiator, heater core, fan clutch.  I have only used distilled water in the cooling system so it has never had tap water mixed with the anti-freeze.

The tail lamp, headlight and engine harnesses have all been replaced with M&H Fabricators stock replacement harnesses.  The dash harness and fuse panel were restored as well.

The wheels are original 1969 14x7's SS wheels that have their original trim rings and centers.  The tires are BF Goodrich T/A radials that are 245x60x14's that have about 3/4 of their tread left.

The front and rear glass have been replaced and side glass are the original pieces.  They operate like they should.  All the rubber seals have been replaced.

The power front disc brakes stop very well with new rotors, calipers, dust shields and bearings.  All the braking system was new when installed as well as the brake lines from the Right Stuff all the way from the front to the rear including the power brake booster, master cylinder and the wheel cylinders on the rear.

I have put approximately 3300 miles on the car since the restoration process.  The suspension is all new under the front including new coils springs and shocks all the way around.  The rear control arms are boxed in with the stock G.M. sway bar attached to them.

Buyer is responsible for delivery costs or you could pick it up if your local in person.  This car was not originally an SS but I could put it next to any other 69 SS and you would not know any better.  I have been next to the real cars and they don't know the difference.

I don't want to sell this car but I am going to have to let her go.  I am happy to answer any questions you might have.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.

GM recalls 83,572 SUVs for ignition switch issue

Sun, Jan 4 2015

General Motors is recalling 83,572 SUVs from the 2011 and 2012 model years over a potential ignition lock actuator issue. In affected vehicles, the actuator isn't the right size, which could cause the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position, and then either due to a jarring event or a "cool interior temperature" the ignition could switch back to the "Accessory" position. Doing so would cause a loss of power assistance and the airbags might not deploy. This is a different ignition issue than the one that's been ongoing for the past year. GM said it expects that less than 500 vehicles suffer from the problem, but that the pool could include vehicles from 2007 through to 2014 that have already been fixed, but with defective parts. The 2011-2012 SUVs included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the ignition lock housing to see if it needs a free replacement. RECALL Subject : Ignition Lock Actuator may Bind Report Receipt Date: DEC 30, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V827000 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the ignition lock actuator may bind, making turning the key difficult or causing the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position. CONSEQUENCE: If stuck in the "Start" position, the ignition may suddenly snap back into the "Accessory" position, causing a loss of engine, steering, and braking power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. If the vehicle is in a crash, the air bags may not deploy, increasing the risk of occupant injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14696 for the original equipment, and 14912 for the service replacement parts.

Watch this time-lapse build of the Chevy SS for NASCAR

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

There's only about a week left until we get our first look at the production version of the 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan, but Chevrolet NASCAR teams have been looking at the race version of the car all winter. Autoweek has posted a really neat time-lapse video showing just a portion of what it takes to build one of NASCAR's new Gen6 stock cars.
Though the video is quite brief, it does show almost the entire build process starting with just the car's nose, and it gives us a good look at how integral the template is to the final product. As a bonus, Hendrick Motorsports also provided some videos showing two of its teams performing pit stop tests over the winter. The second video shows some of the more detailed aspects of the racecar's rear end, including the stock-looking trunk cutout and a newly mandated rear bumper extension that will be used on super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
To see what Team Chevy has been up to all off-season, check out all three videos posted after the jump.
