1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 138 VIN makes this car a true SS not a clone. Car was well optioned from the factory with power brakes, front disk brakes, roller tachometer, horseshoe shifter, front bucket seats and air conditioning. I had plans of doing the car up to keep for good, but life has gotten in the way and need a down payment for a house more than I need the car. That is the ONLY reason I am selling her. Have done a lot of work to her over the years.
She rides like new on a new set of front QA1 Coil Over Shocks, ball joints, and bearings. All this comes to a better stop with freshened brakes, new stainless steel brake lines all the way, new flex hoses for the factory front 4 piston disk brakes, new master cylinder, plumbed with fresh DOT 5 fluid.
The entire front clip, fire wall, bottom of hood, cowl drain, and frame has been treated to a few coats of POR 15 then a matte chassis black for several coats of protection. The fenders were painted inside while the inner fenders were out for further corrosion resistance. A new core support was installed as the original had corrosion due to a bad battery at some point. The new one was powder coated to match for durability. While the front clip was off replaced the left cowl panel and left cowl shoulder panel, these were the only corroded panels. Were put back in place with spot welds as the factory would have done. Front clip installed with a Front End Fastener Kit from 396SS.com.
The engine was treated to a fresh coat of Chevy Orange, Weiand Aluminum Intake, mild Comp Cams cam, Comp double roller timing set, Comp valve spring set, Comp roller tipped rocker arms for a slightly healthier demeanor. To feed the 454 a Fast EZ EFI 4 barrel 1000 CFM throttle barrel sets on top the new intake. The kit comes with all the high pressure fuel hose, O2 Sensor, hand held programmer, and installed a new fuel tank to ensure no trash would pass through the new system. Turn the key and she's there, no cold natured, no padding the throttle, just ready to ride! All this is kept cool with a Champion 3 core aluminum radiator, new water pump, hoses, and duel Derale electric fans. To help the spark out a MSD 6AL ignition was installed. 140 amp alternator from Summit Racing was added to keep the power sufficient, and a Summit Racing mini hi torque starter to help get things going. A factory style engine wiring harness was installed from 396SS.com, came made for an internally regulated alternator and for HEI ignition system. New power steering pump, all new belts, fresh fluids everywhere, new motor mounts and Trick Flow throttle cable bracket put on so everything flows and works properly. Power goes through a fresh 700R4 overdrive transmission to a new balanced driveshaft from Southwest Speed to the 12 bolt rear end. That is all I know about the rear, the tag has been removed prior to me acquiring the car.
Inside you are greeted by a new dash face plate, new a/c vents that blows the ice cold (or hot) air from the vents, the floor, or windshield defroster from the Vintage Air heating and cooling system. The entire kit is installed under the passenger side dash, blows good and strong, and good and cold on hot days and was charged with R134. New dash, firewall, and kick panel insulation was installed to help keep out engine and road heat and noises. For listening pleasure a RetroSound digital knob style radio was installed with out having to cut the new dash carrier. Radio has a front and rear auxiliary input for iPods, MP3 players, ect., controls for CD changers, and outputs for an amp and subwoofer system. Wires for amp and subwoofer system are ran hidden into trunk for ease of hooking something up. Radio receives well through power antenna in right front fender, and sounds great through RetroSound stereo dash speaker, Pioneer 160 watt 2-way 6.5 kick panel enclosed speakers, and 2 Sony 6X9 3-way speakers installed under the package tray. Package tray is solid with no cut outs for speaker installation. Trunk, package tray and under the rear seat has been coated in POR15 for corrosion resistance followed by new insulation and factory replacement material. Rear seat does not match front seats and is not correct for the car, was on the list of things to take care of next. Driver seat also has some tears in bottom seat part, all can be noted in pictures. To keep in interior and trunk dry new weather stripping was put in, including all 8 window felts (door and quarter windows, inside and outside). New door hinge pins were put in to keep the big heavy GM doors straight and the seal tight. All windows go up and down with ease and vent windows crank open effortless. New ignition switch, wiper switch, headlight switch and cigarette lighter were installed to keep everything working correctly. After trunk was coated with POR15, it was treated with a few coats of spatter paint for the period correct appearance. Trunk pan is solid with no holes or rust. Car did come with factory air conditioning. I have everything that was removed from car, which appears to only be missing compressor and compressor brackets.
The exterior of the car is red with black rally stripes. Paint is of driver quality and is not perfect, there are a few chips and slight scratches. The body is solid with a one or two small bubbles behind the front driver tire and under the rear window. Most imperfections can be seen from pictures. The floors are not patched anywhere and are solid! The frame is solid front to back with no modifications! Bumpers are in good shape for age. Wheels are 15 inch rallys with almost new tires.
If you would like any more pictures or have any questions, please just email and ask and I will reply as soon as I possibly can! Car is for sale locally too, so I reserve the right to end auction at any time. Upon end of auction immediate, non-refundable $750 PayPal deposit must be made with the rest of the funds to me with in 7 days by way of bank transfer, cashiers checks, or cash once funds have cleared car will be signed over. Shipping will be paid and arranged by auction winner. Thank you for looking!

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid
Wed, Feb 18 2015Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green
Fri, 01 Mar 2013With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.
Fewer than 1 in 3 Chevy dealers earn right to initially sell C7 Corvette
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Looking to make the launch of the 2014 Corvette Stingray as efficient as possible, Chevrolet will be limiting the numbers of its dealers that can sell the all-new coupe and convertible. According to Automotive News, sales of the C7 Corvette will initially be limited to less than a third of Chevy's total dealership network when the 'Vette goes on sale this summer.
Only 900 dealers out of more than 3,000 locations nationwide will be allowed to sell the new Corvette at first, and the reason for this is so that there are no shortages at dealers that can actually get the cars sold. The article says that the 900 dealerships chosen represented 80 percent of total Corvette sales in 2012.
Some of the requirements dealers had to make to get initial allocation of Stingray sales include having sold at least four Corvettes in 2012 and having a Corvette Stingray specialist who will be required to have gone through a training session costing more than $2,000 per attendee. Once demand for the 2014 Corvette Stingray begins to subside - approximately six to nine months after it goes on sale - then allocation could open up to more dealers, but the report indicates this could happen following the 2014 model year.
