1968 Chevrolet Chevelle

This 1968 Chevy Chevelle is in restorable condition. The small block engine runs but has a bad knock. Clear California title in hand, no back DMV fees, this car is on Planned Non-Operational status. The odometer reading of 51,947 miles is INACCURATE. Please see below for more details:

Body: Serious paint fade and oxidation, but the body is solid. The only concerns are rust holes on each front fender (see pix), behind the wheel wells and someone had installed fiberglass fender flares on the rear fenders and the flares are damaged, one having been completely knocked off. It has an after market sunroof and the windshield has caulking along the upper edge. All glass is good. There is a ding on the leading edge of the front left fender, and some marks on rear bumper area. Also a white spot in the center of the right rear taillight. Rocker panels are rust-free. Floor pans are solid. Trunk is solid. Bumpers in decent but not perfect condition, grill the same.

Engine/Transmission: The small block engine is believed to be a 350, and not the original engine. This is not an SS car and the 396 badge is misleading. The engine does run but has a serious knock and will have to be replaced or rebuilt. The automatic transmission is a Turbo 350, column shift.

Drive Train/Suspension/Chassis: The front end needs bushings and possibly tie rod ends. The chassis is rust free (see pix). The shocks will need replacing. Brakes work well. Wheels are mismatched and the tires are old and not to be trusted.

Interior: OK, this car had some "custom" work done way back in the eighties. The diamond tuck interior is in need of replacement (to say the least), the driver's side of the bench seat is badly shredded. The dash is cracked, the carpet falling apart and the headliner gone, though the rods remain. There are also quite a few accessories wired in and a mess of wiring under the dash by the steering wheel (see pic).

Title/Registration Status: Clear California title, this Chevelle is being offered by owner. The California registration is "Planned Non-Operational" status, which means that it is parked and no fees are owed or occurring.

Please examine the pix carefully. We welcome any questions you may have regarding this item. Buyer responsible for shipping, seller can assist with arrangements and coordinating with shipper. Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?

Frustrated GM investors ask what more Mary Barra can do

Mon, Oct 22 2018

DETROIT — General Motors Co Chief Executive Mary Barra has transformed the No. 1 U.S. automaker in her almost five years in charge, but that is still not enough to satisfy investors. Ahead of third-quarter results due on Oct. 31, GM shares are trading about 6 percent below the $33 per share price at which they launched in 2010 in a post-bankruptcy initial public offering. The Detroit carmaker's stock is down 22 percent since Barra took over in January 2014. After hitting an all-time high of $46.48 on Oct. 24, 2017, the shares have declined 33 percent. In the same period, the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed 7.8 percent. Several shareholders contacted by Reuters said GM could face a third major action by activist shareholders in less than four years if the share price does not improve. "I've been expecting it," said John Levin, chairman of Levin Capital Strategies. "It just seems a tempting morsel to somebody." Levin's firm owns more than seven million GM shares. Barra has guided the company through the settlement of a federal criminal probe of a mishandled safety recall, sold off money-losing European operations, and returned $25 billion to shareholders through dividends and stock buybacks from 2012 through 2017. GM declined to comment for this story, but the company's executives privately express frustration with the market's reluctance to see it as anything more than a manufacturer tied mainly to auto market sales cycles. GM's profitable North American truck and SUV business and its money-making China operations are valued at just $14 billion, excluding the value of GM's stake in its $14.6 billion Cruise automated vehicle business and its cash reserves from its $44 billion market capitalization. The recent slump in the Chinese market, GM's largest, and plateauing U.S. demand are ratcheting up the pressure. GM is one of the few global automakers without a founding family or a government to serve as a bulwark against corporate raiders. In 2015, a group led by investor Harry Wilson pressed GM to launch a $5 billion share buyback, and commit to what is now an $18 billion ceiling on the level of cash the company would hold. In 2017, GM fended off a call by hedge fund manager David Einhorn to split its common stock shares into two classes. Einhorn, whose firm still owned more than 21 million shares at the end of June, declined to comment about GM's stock price. Other investors said there were no clear alternatives to Barra's approach.
