Watch this creative way to pull a truck's engine

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

Living in an apartment complex has its benefits, but for shade-tree mechanics who like/need to work on their own cars, it definitely has a number of disadvantages. Relatively simple tasks such as brake jobs and oil changes are difficult when you don't have dedicated driveway space, to say nothing of more in-depth repairs... like pulling an engine, for example.
For these types of challenges, a little ingenuity and plenty of muscle are needed to get the job done. Scroll down to watch these four men snatch the V8 out of a Chevrolet K1500 using nothing but a chain, landscape timber and good ol' fashioned brute strength. Good work, gentlemen.

5 classic trucks and their polarizing modern revivals

Sun, Mar 3 2024

EVs are helping eliminate Detroit's gas-guzzling problem. Some revivals of gas-powered classics are getting the EV treatment.  But not every revived model looks exactly like its original counterpart. We're in a new era of hulking Detroit metal, and you can thank EVs. Americans can't get enough of their big, beefy trucks and SUVs. But for many years, some of the biggest gas guzzlers fell out of fashion as gas prices rose and emissions regulations tightened. But in the past few years, some of the most iconic American truck nameplates have been brought back to life with electric motors, like the GMC Hummer. In other cases, as with the Ford Bronco, improvements in engine technology and more interest in rugged adventure vehicles made a gas-powered revival possible. Even some revivals that started as gas-powered, like the Chevy Blazer and the Jeep Wagoneer, are now getting electrified spinoffs. (Even if they don't always look quite as sleek as their original inspiration.) Here are side-by-sides of five classic American trucks and their modern counterparts. The Jeep Wagoneer 1975 Jeep Wagoneer and 2024 Electric Jeep Wagoneer SStellantis After a long wait, Jeep released its revival of the classic Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in 2020. Starting later this year, an electric version of the luxury Jeep SUV will join the Wagoneer lineup. The Chevrolet Blazer A 1973 Chevrolet Blazer and a 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EVGetty Images, General Motors The Chevrolet Blazer was first rebooted in 2019 as a sporty family SUV. The modern Blazer shares zero resemblance to its boxy, off-roading older sibling, but it has still managed to become one of Chevy's more popular SUVs in recent years. The Blazer EV came later, and was one of the first models GM built on its new Ultium battery platform. The Hummer A Hummer H2 and the 2023 Hummer EV pickup truckGetty Images, General Motors Once the poster child for Detroit's big, bad gas guzzlers, the Hummer got new life as an electric pickup truck in 2021. The Ford Bronco A 1971 Ford Bronco and a 2022 Ford BroncoFord Motor Co. After a rouge group of engineers and designers inside Ford spent years trying to breathe life back into the Blue Oval's boxy off-roader, the Ford Bronco was finally resurrected in 2020 amid a rise in popularity for rugged adventure vehicles. The Ford Ranger 1985 Ford Ranger and a 2024 Ford RangerFord Motor Co.

The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities. DESCRIPTION
We have all seen many cars with bolted on big wheels and tired suspensions called “Pro-Touring”, when in fact they are just garage built, bolt together cars that are scary at highway speeds. This is not one of those cars!! THIS IS A TRUE PROFESSIONALY BUILT PRO-TOURING FULL CUSTOM SUPER MUSCLE CAR!! An absolute masterpiece of engineering and one of the finest cars we have ever had the pleasure of offering! You and this Chevelle will be at home on any track or any street, and smiling the whole time!

This absolutely stunning 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Hardtop is the result of a Fresh Nut and Bolt Restoration of a true code 138 Super Sport! In this model year, the first three numbers of the vin designate the model. In this case, all Chevelle’s in 1967 that start with 138 are Super Sport models. Having seen only 4938 miles since the restoration and build, this show quality Chevelle SS has had all the bugs worked out and is ready for the new owner!

BODY:
Starting with a southern rust free body and taking it down to bare metal. It was then block sanded and straightened to “Pebble Beach” quality before applying a mirror like Black finish. After several coats of color and clear the body was then color sanded and buffed to reveal an amazing paint job that looks a mile deep and will win shows across the globe! An all steel 2-inch cowl induction hood was added during the restoration. All the trim was restored or replaced with new, as was the chrome. Dual side mirrors with bow tie logos on each door and new custom SS427 badges give hint to what is under the hood. All of the rubber and weather stripping pieces were also replaced with new. Finally a new vinyl top finishes off the stellar looks.

INTERIOR:
Keeping with the ultra clean and classic stock looks of the Chevelle SS, this build keep the interior largely original. All Black interior with factory Bucket seats with factory Black Vinyl seat covers, door panels, dash and so on. Everything in the interior is new! The factory Deluxe gauge cluster is loaded with Speedometer, Odometer, Amp meter, Fuel Level, Oil Pressure, and Temperature! Added to the mix is an Autometer Tachometer, and Autometer Boost gauge, both mounted to the steering column for visibility. A factory center console with clock was modified to accept the 6-Speed Shifter and upon close inspection you would never notice!! High quality craftsmanship continues further with the front on the center console were a Kenwood Stereo System is housed. The remarkable Kenwood head unit features; Touch Screen Controls, Navigation, DVD Player, Hands free Phone, Satellite Radio, and of course AM/FM/CD. Rounding out the audio system is kick panel speakers, hidden speakers in the parcel shelf, 12 inch sub woofers and amplifier tastefully installed in the truck, and power antenna. No tacky door panel cut in speakers or annoying rattles from this system! Original rubber floor mats front and rear add to the stock appeal. Trunk is fully equipped with original style spare, jack and tool, along with original truck mat.

ENGINE:
The engine in this dynamite ride comes from the GM Performance Division. Starting with a ZZ427 LIMITED EDITION GM Performance Crate motor featuring Aluminum Heads, Aluminum Intake, Aluminum Forged Pistons, Forged Connecting Rods, a fully balanced rotating assembly, stainless steel valves, hydraulic camshaft and lifters, 6 quart oil pan, and reinforced iron block. In stock trim this engine produces a respectable 430hp. However in a super muscle car like this Chevelle that was not enough. A Vortech V-2 Trim Supercharger system was installed. Capable of supporting 775hp with an available 22psi, this system uses an enclosed case for the carburetor and external blow-off valve to regulate over boosting. Full MSD 6AL ignition keeps everything running and reliable, with the built in rev limiter currently set to 8000rpm. Electric water pump and thermostatically controlled cooling fans keeps everything under control while driving, even in the hottest summer months. Jet Hot Coated headers channel away exhaust gases through a 2 1/2 inch Flowmaster exhaust. High flow fuel pump, fuel filter and new stock gas tank complete the fuel system.

CHASSIS:
If the engine is the heart of any Pro Touring car, then the frame is the spine and suspension its legs. With out them it just can’t run. The original frame was cleaned checked and restored to original before adding the upgraded suspension. Lowering the car approx 1 1/2 inches gives it a better stance and look, but also lowered the center of gravity, making the Chevelle handle much better in the corners. The front suspension consist of a massive sway bar by Hotchkis, power steering with quick ratio AGR steering box, Power Disc brakes by SSBC with slotted rotors, adjustable Coil Over shocks by Detroit Speed and Engineering and all other components fully restored. The rear suspension consists of a Detroit Speed and Engineering 4-Link rear suspension with adjustable coil over shocks, 12 Bolt rear end by Mosler with 31 spline axles and a highway friendly 3:73 gear ratio. Custom built driveshaft connects the Richmond 6-Speed to the rear end and features an approved drive shaft loop for safety. American Racing Special Edition Chrome Torque Thrust 17” wheels are found on all 4 corners and wrapped in 225/50R17 Bridgestone Potenza rubber.

This 1967 Chevelle SS is an absolutely stunning machine. It can take a lot to impress us, seeing more collector cars in one day than most do all year can leave you wanting more and more! This Chevelle satisfies our hunger and will silence even the strongest critics!! To recreate this work of art would take countless hours and twice the current asking price! Recently serviced and ready to cruise, show, or hit the track! We welcome any questions you have about the car. We can also assist in World Wide delivery of the car if needed.
