1964 Chevelle Ss Body # 2 The Holy Grail Of All Chevelles on 2040-cars
Federal Way, Washington, United States
Here is a 1964 Chevelle SS that is Body # 2, serial # 3 which means it was the second Chevelle V8 SS produced and number 3 off the production line. There is no way to know if the # 1 Chevelle SS V8 was number one or number 2 off the production line, all I know is that the first and second 1964 Chevelle SS's were built in the first three cars off the production line in 1963 and there is no known record of the # 1 Chevelle SS that can be found or know if it even exist today.
I bought this car several months ago from a guy who had owned it for the the last fifteen years. He painted the car a different color, put in a new 350 engine and added a M21 4 speed trans with 373 gears. I decided to restore the car back to the original color and condition and install the correct engine and transmission so I stripped the car down to bare metal and found that the rear quaters needed to have new skins on them so I have installed them and am currently doing the rest of the body work and getting it ready to paint, I have spent countless hours on this car so as to do it the correct way. I have decided to see if someone wants this car the way it is so they can have it restored the way they want not the way I want. I'm in no hurry to sell this car but it is for sale, and if I don't get my price then I will finish the car myself, as I have restored several cars over the years and I know what it takes, lots of time and money. I have the original bumpers and most all the original trim, but it will need to be restored. I also have some new interior door panels but they are black and not correct, the guy I bought the car from was going to do black interior. The motor pictured here is the correct 283, 220 hp 4 bbl with the correct intake manifold, correct exhaust manifolds and carb. as well as the correct matching powerglide trans. The car has epoxy DP50LF on it for a sealer and then 1 gal. of Evercoat Feather Fill which has been guide coated and block sanded. There will have to be more Evercoat and block sanding until body is perfect. The Chevelle doesn't show it's best because of the work being done on it right now, sorry about that. This car does drive under it's own power, running gear all new, including brakes. I will probably only list this car once and if it doesn't sell, it will go off the market until fully restored. The pics of the car in grey color are before I stripped the car. I'm sure if your interested in this Rare Chevelle SS you'll have questions and I would be more then happy to answer them. I will not give out my reserve information, but thank you for looking. Keep in mind that this just might be the oldest Chevelle Super Sport in the World. On May-01-14 at 07:48:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added the pic of the vin tag in the driver's side door, this matches the title along with the body tag. On May-02-14 at 15:09:39 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added pics of the way the car left the factory in the colors, drivetrain, and engine plus trim including the bumpers with the bumper guards. Thses pics were found on Marc Schiliron's Classic Cars. I believe the car deserves to be restored like this for the historical value and because it's the begining of a great car line. I have the bumpers with the guards as seen and 90% of the original trim, hub caps, original seats as seen in my pics, auto console ect. Please note that most of the trim will need to be restored. I think this Chevelle SS should be in a Museum when fully restored. |

Car and Driver 10Best list cracked by Tesla Model S, BMW 3 Series left off
Fri, Nov 21 2014Car and Driver is keeping new blood pumping into its annual 10Best cars list with three new entries making it on for 2015 and a perennial favorite falling off. Among the biggest shocks this year is that the BMW 3 Series and 4 Series are no longer named, despite years of some portion of that lineup earning a mention. In another surprise, the Tesla Model S (specifically in S 60 trim to fit under the $80,000 cost cap) makes it to the 2015 roster and is the only electrically motivated member of the group. Despite the loss of the 3 Series, BMW isn't entirely shut out this year, because the M235i gets its name on the list. Car and Driver argues that the little coupe feels like a welcome throwback to the E46 chassis M3 of the early 2000s. In addition to the Model S, the final newbie to the annual group is the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. The inclusion of these new members knocks the Audi A6/A7 family and Ford Fiesta ST out from the 2014 rundown. The other seven models carry over from last year, including the Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Honda Accord, Mazda3, Mazda6, Porsche Boxster/Cayman and Volkswagen Golf/GTI. The 2015 10Best cars list certainly seems to have something for everyone from the hot hatch fan to the family man and even the green car driver, thanks to the addition of the Tesla. Head over to Car and Driver to read its detailed explanations for each vehicle's inclusion, but if you've got a difference of opinion or just really like the list, let us know in Comments. Chevrolet To Oversee Restoring Sinkhole Corvettes
Fri, Feb 14 2014What Mother Earth devoured, Chevrolet plans to resurrect. The carmaker said Thursday it will oversee restoration of the classic cars swallowed by a huge sinkhole beneath the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky. General Motors Design in Warren, Mich., will manage the painstaking work to repair the eight prize vehicles, the automaker said Thursday. The cars were consumed when the earth opened up early Wednesday beneath a display area when the museum in Bowling Green, Ky., was closed. No injuries were reported. The museum was open Thursday except for the area where the sinkhole occurred. Mark Reuss, GM's head of global product development, said the damaged vehicles rank as "some of the most significant in automotive history." "There can only be one 1-millionth Corvette ever built," he said, referring to one of the damaged cars. "We want to ensure as many of the damaged cars are restored as possible so fans from around the world can enjoy them." Just how the cars will be pulled out of the ground remains to be seen, said museum executive director Wendell Strode. The local fire department estimated the hole is about 40 feet across and 25 to 30 feet deep. The hole opened beneath part of the museum's domed section. "We feel pretty confident that most of the cars can be extracted," Strode said Thursday. "And we hope and believe that with just a little bit of luck, that all eight cars can be extracted and be part of the restoration." Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said some of the cars look to be in good shape, while others are buried in rubble. "It will likely be several weeks until we can get the cars out and assessed," he said. The GM Design team has helped restore other historic cars, but the Corvette project looks to be its biggest, he said. "These Corvettes are part of our history, and they want them restored properly," Strode said. "We're thrilled they're doing this." The cars looked like toys as they plunged into the hole, piled in a heap amid dirt and concrete fragments. The museum owns six of the cars while two - a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil - are on loan from General Motors. The other cars damaged were a 1962 black Corvette, a 1984 PPG Pace Car, a 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette, a 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette, a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette and a 2009 white 1.5 Millionth Corvette. Pictures of the sinkhole showed a collapsed section of floor with multiple cars visible inside the hole.
2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven
Wed, Feb 8 2023POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods. However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows. Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS. Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence. Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.
