1990 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Wagon 4-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Adams, New York, United States
This is an original car with 45,200 miles since the first owner purchased it in 1990. He kept a written diary from the day he picked up the car at the dealership. It was first a GM executive car for the first 3,000 miles but was titled new to the owner who purchased it. Compared to these wagons which are left, this has to be near the top, though it is not perfect. Car presents awesome and gets a ton or comments. The best way to describe it over the internet is to list the pros and cons for you to be the judge. Car runs, drives and shifts excellent. It has a 307 V-8 engine with automatic transmission. From that I can tell, it has every available option noted in the 1990 sales brochure also included. It also comes with the official GM maintenance manual. At 11,000 miles GM replaced the transmission under warranty noted in the paperwork. Therefore the transmission only has about 33,000 miles on it. Seats and interior are great with no tears etc. It was never smoked in as the lighter is still new. It will eventually need a new headliner as it's starting to come apart from the foam in some areas. Everything works including the power antenna with the exception that the right channel on the radio goes in and out. Not uncommon for these old Delco radios which were crap to begin with. The A/C works but needs a charge and has yet to be converted from r-12 to r-134a. I have the kit to convert it which will also be included. The exterior paint still shines and presents great withy the wood trim. However, there are various marks here and there typical of a 24 year old car - SEE PICS. There are a couple spots under the wood trim which have bubbles under them but have not broken through. - AGAIN SEE PICS. I bought a new roll of paneling to repair these spots but have not done it yet. If the car sells, the roll would go with it. The undercarriage is solid and car was under coated when it was new as documented in the paperwork. I have reason to believe the tires are original based on the fact there is not paperwork to state otherwise. They are Uniroyal Tiger Paws very popular for the time this was produced. Mechanically brakes, spark plugs were done around 39,000 miles. I just recently put 4 new shocks and added spring spacers at the base of the spring to raise the rear to OEM specs. It also has a brand new exhaust from the engine back including the converter. This car is a blast to drive and presents well. You can pick it apart here and there if you are overly fussy but overall it is in great shape for the type of family of which most were drove into the ground. Autocheck scores a 48 out of a range of 9-27 for the average vehicle. This was the last year for this style and in 1990, 12,305 wagons were produced. At time of listing, car has 45,198 miles. It is currently registered and inspected so if it sells pleased be advised the mileage will be slightly higher. If you have any questions or would like to see it in person, please do so BEFORE bidding. Thanks.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.      View this post on Instagram            A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. Camaro driver clocked at 171 miles per hour
Wed, Apr 13 2016Chevy's 2016 Camaro SS is a fantastic piece of automotive engineering. It is also, apparently, very, very fast. This latter fact was perfectly illustrated when, on April 8, a Camaro SS driver was nailed in Two Harbors, Minnesota for doing 171 mph. According to WFAA, the unnamed speed demon was flying down Highway 61 near Two Harbors when Hermantown, MN Deputy Police Chief Shawn Padden clocked him at an eye-watering 171 mph. He then recorded the speeder at 168 and 141. At the time, Deputy Chief Padden was working with Minnesota State Patrol on an anti-DWI program called "Toward Zero Deaths". Padden, who was interviewed by the Duluth News Tribune, said he was surprised at the driver's sheer speed. "When he went by me, it was a blur," Padden told the News. "You get used to seeing people going 65 or 70 and what that looks like. But I've never seen anything like this. It's like a rocket on wheels." Fadden chased the Camaro down eventually, but it took some doing. To catch the Camaro, he pushed his Dodge Charger Pursuit to 135 mph just to get into range so the Camaro could see his emergency lights. The speeding driver was ticketed for careless driving, but may lose his license due to a Minnesota law that gives courts the option of revoking licenses for drivers caught doing more than 100 mph.
