1978 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 2 Door Original Unrestored Survivior 62,000 Miles on 2040-cars
Gloversville, New York, United States
Up for sale is a truly incredible original car! This is an ALL ORIGINAL un-restored "SURVIVOR" 1978 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 2 door Sport Coupe! This is one of 3 years that the 2 door Caprices were offered in the unique "Aero-Coupe" design with aerodynamic wrap around rear glass that was later featured on the late 1980's Monte Carlo NASCAR "Aero-Coupes"! This beauty was acquired directly from the original owner and could be classified as a true "BARN FIND" as I literally bought it out of his barn where it had been lovingly stored! He bought the car new, drove it sparingly for about 10 years only in the spring, summer, and early fall. It was NEVER driven in snow or salt, and was always parked in the barn when not being used. Then, he took it off the road in 1998, keeping in in storage from then on. He also knew enough to store the car properly, start and run it every so often, as well as drive it a little in his neighborhood to keep seals and gaskets fresh and not leaking or dried out. The result is that this car still looks and drives incredibly! It has 62,000 original miles, but in my opinion, could easily pass for 25 or 30 thousand! Every where you look, this Caprice is unbelievably un-restored original! The original blue metallic paint still has a lot of depth and holds a great shine! There is some of the light "blotchiness" on the hood and deck lid of this car that was very characteristic of metallic colored GM cars of this era as the paint aged a few years, but it is NOT dull or cracked as you typically see on these cars. While there are a few minor nicks and scratches that go with any used car, it does not have a bunch of door dings or "parking lot rash" like you usually see. Original owner was always picky about parking it away from other cars in parking lots to avoid this. Car has never been wrecked, rusted, or patched. Has all original sheet metal body panels, floor pans, etc. Very clean underside, too. Nice and clean, not scaly. Original chrome and bright work are straight, bright and shiny. Original cloth interior is absolutely immaculate! No tears, rips, cracks in dash etc. Still has original GM floor mats. Trunk is also immaculate original with original spare, jack, and mat. Under hood is also nice un-restored original. You just don't find vintage cars more original and un-touched than this one! This Caprice Classic Coupe is equipped as follows: 1. 305/2bbl V8 engine 2. 3-speed automatic transmission 3. Power steering and brakes 4. Factory radio (Not working at this point). I have a spare factory radio that I will include with the car 5. Comfortron automatic climate control and air conditioning (still works, and blows cold) 6. Delay wiper system 7. Power trunk release 8. Deluxe cloth interior NOTE: This car DOES NOT have power windows, locks, or seat This Caprice drives like a dream! Smooth, good power, and quiet comfortable ride! Like sitting in your living room! We drove it last week on a 175 mile trip with absolutely no issues or problems. Ran nice and cool, did not leak or burn oil, or do anything out of the ordinary. I would not be afraid to drive this one anywhere! Also, I have all books and papers since new, including the original window sticker! You seldom see nice original cars like this that have been well cared for. This would be great for antique car tours, or entering in the HPOF (Historical Preservation of Original Features) or Survivor class at car shows. These all original Survivor cars are quickly becoming one of the most important aspects and valuable items in the collector car hobby today! Remember, anyone with a large checkbook can drag a derelict out of a junkyard and restore it, but they are only factory original once! Don't miss this great opportunity to get into the old car hobby with a beautiful original turn-key car at an affordable price! Chevy Volt replacement battery cost varies wildly, up to $34,000
Fri, Jan 10 2014There's a growing hubbub in the plug-in vehicle community over what looks like some ridiculously cheap replacement batteries for the Chevrolet Volt going up for sale. GM Parts Online, for example, is selling a replacement Volt battery with an MSRP of $2,994.64 but, with an online discount, the price comes down to $2,305.88. For the 16-kWh pack in the 2012 Volt, that comes to a very low $144.11 per kilowatt hour (kWH). But is it a real deal? How can it be, when a Chevy dealer may quote you a price of up to $34,000 to replace the pack? For a 16-kWh Volt pack, $2,305.88 comes to a very low $144.11 per kWh. But is it a real deal? Battery packs in alternative propulsion vehicles are usually priced by the kWh and, historically, they've been thought to be in the range of $500-per-kWh for OEM offerings. Since automakers are understandably secretive about their costs, we still don't know what the real number is today, but we do know it varies by automaker. Tesla, for example, has said it pays less than $200-per-kWH at the cell level but, of course, a constructed pack would be more. Whatever is going on, li-ion battery prices are trending downward. So, $144.11 certainly sounds great, but what's the story here? Kevin Kelly, manager of electrification technology communications for General Motors, reminded AutoblogGreen that GM Parts Online is not the official GM parts website and that, "the costs indicated on the site are not what we would charge our dealers or owners for a replacement battery. There would be no cost to the Volt owner if their battery needs replacement or repair while the battery is under the eight year/100,000 mile limited warranty coverage provided by Chevrolet." A single price tag also can't be accurate for everyone, Kelly said. "If the customer needs to have their battery repaired beyond the warranty, the cost to them would vary depending on what needs to be replaced or repaired (i.e. number of modules, which specific internal components need replacement, etc.)." he said. "So, it's hard for us to tell you exactly what the cost would be to the customer because it varies depending on what might need to be repaired/replaced. As a result, the core charge would vary." But, is the $2,300 price even accurate for anyone? Thanks to a reader comment, we see that this similar item on New GM Parts makes it look like the lithium-ion modules that Kelly mentioned – where a lot of the expensive bits are – are not included.
Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
2014 Chevy Silverado priced from *$24,585, V8 gets better economy than Ford EcoBoost V6
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Chevrolet has thrown down the next hand in the pickup truck poker wars and revealed at least a couple of potential aces - depending on which numbers matter most to you. The 2014 2014 Silverado 1500 with its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gets 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic, can tow 11,500 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Package and costs the same as the outgoing Silverado, $24,585 (*including $995 destination fee). Chevy says the Silverado also stands atop the fuel economy charts when comparing any competitor with a V8 engine - and some competitors with V6 engines. The two-wheel drive model returns 16 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, 19 mpg combined in two-wheel drive guise and 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined as a four-wheel drive.
For context around those numbers, the most fuel efficient V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 pickups lose about two mpg in every metric compared to the Silverado, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost returning 16 city, 18 highway and 22 combined in two-wheel drive. However, that EcoBoost does have 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. You can get a Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 25 mpg highway, but it has 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2013 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and its 395 hp and 407 lb-ft drops one mpg in every category to the Silverado. Its tow rating is 200 pounds beyond its nearest competitor, the F-150 with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Elsewhere, the new Silverado gets a quieter cab with a redesigned interior, a new bed with improved load-management possibilities, disc brakes all around, tweaked steering and suspension, along with free standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.
