This 1975 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Convertible with the 400 c.i. small-block V8 was purchased new by my mother from Bill Gerringer Chevrolet in Apex, North Carolina. Once purchased it spent most of its life sitting inside the garage at Mom's home and only driven lightly. After Mom passed the car was placed in my care and has spent its days outside as no garage was available. The original top was replaced by my Mom several years (decade?) ago, and there still resides another spare soft top in her storage along with another spare dashboard.
Anyway, the car has been occasionally used as a daily driver, and it has taken one long trip to Cape May Coast Guard Station, New Jersey to see my step-daughter graduate from the Academy there. The old Chevy made the trip pleasurable as the interior is as spacious as most vans and the ride typically Chevrolet smooth. I did lose two of the old tires to failure on the trip up, but the engine, cooling system, AC and heat, transmission, brakes and rear end performed flawlessly.
The car is NOT perfect but is structurally and mechanically sound, being serviced regularly. I replace the oil about every 3000 miles which puts her about a quart low from leakage around the valve cover and oil pan gaskets. The rear end is solid and does not leak. The brakes are certainly adequate for the size of the vehicle, but one must remember this is NOT a car intended to rocket round the town. It is intended to cruise elegantly, slowly enough that everyone may see and admire her twenty-two foot beauty.
The GM AC still works and has some of the original R11 or R12 coolant inside. It has never been changed over to R134 and therefore requires a few minutes to cool things down. The automatic transmission does not slip and the fluid does not leak.
The interior is in good shape, but the carpet needs replacing from probably us kids riding in the back. Also there is about a one inch cut in the back panel of the driver's side seat my Dad put there by error shortly after Mom bought the car. The front seat panel also shows a crease appearing which may eventually tear open from age and wear. Otherwise the interior looks good.
The exterior also looks quite good, very straight with no dents, dings, or damage other than that already listed. I am looking for, as pet lovers say, a forever home for this old beauty. I live in a housing development where folks have no appreciation of anything older than last week, and the HOA now says I can't keep her in the street. The driveway is too short!
My insurance company has the Chevy valued and insured for 17 thousand dollars. I am asking 12 thousand since there will be some things the new owner may want to do to return her to showroom condition. However, understanding the market to be what it may, I will entertain offers that do not border upon comic. I will provide additional pictures of any part of the vehicle one may wish to examine, and the name and contact information of the custom/antique repair shop that repaired her when the front was damaged.
I am listing this vehicle in various mediums, and reserve the right to end this offer at any time, without any warning. If you live near Durham, NC, I can make arrangements for you to see the car in person and take a cruise with me...just let me know.
Payment must be made in total, preferably in cash or previously approved bank check. No personal checks.
Once an offer is accepted I will expect a deposit of $500 within seven (7) working days to secure the transaction, refundable only if the vehicle is not as I have described it above. Pickup only, no delivery is offered.
I thank you for your interest, and hope any questions you may have, you will inquire with me so I can answer them for you.

Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?
Mon, Feb 27 2017We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.
Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs
Sun, 01 Dec 2013
The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.
GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
