For Sale 1974 Caprice Classic Convertible

excellent condition to drive or show! (same body style as Impala)

Minimal effort to make showroom quality!

I have owned this car for close to ten years.  It has been garaged all it's life and it shows.  It still has the original top, a little worn around the edges but still soft, pliable, and by no means needs replaced.  The back glass is actual glass, and the top functions very well.  I live in South Central Illinois and use the car for vacationing.  My wife and I have driven it to the California Coast, Las Vegas, and Florida several times.  During a trip out west we had a blow out and dinged all 4 corners of the car.  It has since been repaired to factory specs.  This happened around 2005 the hood and the trunk lid were about the only thing that was not repainted.   My wife and I prefer having a nice quiet vacation rather than an adventure so an undependable car would be out of the question.  We have since drove the car to Florida 4 or 5 times.  The car still drives, runs, shifts, and Handles as it should.  I would not be afraid to jump in this car right now and drive it to anywhere in the Continental US. and back home.  If you are the winning bidder keep in mind that you could fly in and drive it home.  It is that dependable!

This car does get poor mileage any where from 11mpg to 15mpg at best are the results I have experienced.

I have modified a few things to make the car more user friendly.

 Mods :

Air conditioner has been switched to the new freon

Electronic ignition

Distributor curved

Tilt Wheel

Dual exhaust all the way back

Rear Air shocks

Am Fm cd mp3 player Xm compatible

I did not keep the original parts except for the original steering column.  I really do not wish to sell the car but, my wife asked if I would consider thinning out my toys.

So for ONE TIME ONLY!!!!! I will list this car.

I encourage anyone to come look at the Convertible before bidding if this is not possible please email me with questions. Do not assume anything, this is almost a 40 year old vehicle and I want your purchase to be a pleasant one with no regrets.   If you're like me you'll always have buyers remorse.  In the case of this car I have not regretted owning it one moment, and I paid a premium price for it.

If you do not have the means to purchase and maintain this vehicle I urge you not to bid, all bidders with a Feed back score less than 25 positive feedback at 100% must email me before bidding.  Other wise I will be forced to decline your bid.    I am also requesting a $200.00 nonrefundable payment to be made right at auction close, for listing fees.  This will be applied to the balance at the time of purchase of the high bidder.

Please note the car is for sale locally also, so the auction can end at anytime.

Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.

I will assist in anyway I can to help this process but do not assume anything, ask first.  Also I do not wish to sell internationally.

The car will not be shipped or the title sent to the new owner until payment has cleared the bank.  Cash always works best!

Thank You for taking the time to read the full auction description,  if you have any questions or request more pictures please email me early in the auction.  I may not be able to answer your request in the eleventh hour.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

GM cutting back on powertrain warranty citing lack of interest

Thu, Mar 12 2015

Generally, when a manufacturer offers a long, high-mileage warranty, it's a sign that it stands behind its products. On top of that, it's generally a selling point for consumers, who can rest easy knowing that any catastrophic failures will be picked up by the manufacturer. Considering those facts, it does seem rather strange that General Motors is slashing the mileage warranty on model year 2016 vehicles from Chevrolet and GMC. Instead of offering consumers a 100,000-mile warranty, GM will now only offer a powertrain warranty up to 60,000 miles. The five-year warranty period, though, remains unchanged. GM will also cut the number of free services being offered to Chevy and GMC owners, as well as Buick drivers, from four to two. "Through research, we have determined that when purchasing a new vehicle, included maintenance and warranty rank low on the list of reasons why consumers consider a particular brand over another," explained a memo sent to dealers by Chevrolet VP Brian Sweeney and his GMC counterpart, Duncan Aldred, and obtained by Automotive News. "As a result, we have benchmarked our competitors, reviewed our current offerings and have concluded the following modifications to align closely with our customers' needs and expectations." While the move might seem odd, Sweeney and Aldred are right – according to Automotive News, Ford, Honda and Toyota each offer a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. As for what the money saved by trimming the powertrain warranty will go towards, a GM spokesperson simply told AN that the company will "reinvest the savings we will realize into other retail programs," some of which have been requested by consumers. What are your thoughts? Would a 40,000-mile reduction in a new vehicle's powertrain really turn you off from buying one? Even if it matched its competitors? Is GM better off spending its money elsewhere? Have your say in Comments. NHTSA approves hybrid rearview mirror display in Cadillac CT6, Bolt EV

Tue, Feb 23 2016

The Chevy Bolt EV prototype doesn't just have a fancy new all-electric powertrain. Just outside the driver's line of sight is a newfangled rearview mirror, one that can turn into a screen that shows a moving image from the rear-facing camera. Speaking to NPR's Robert Siegel yesterday, Department of Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx said that NHTSA has now approved this type of mirror/screen for use in vehicles. According to a letter from NHTSA to General Motors, GM will likely use this Full Display Mirror first in the 2016 Cadillac CT6 before coming to the Bolt. In its letter to GM, NHTSA said that the Full Display Mirror will only qualify as a standard rearview mirror as long as there are normal side mirrors in place. In other words, don't expect to see cameras and screens replacing all the mirrors in a motor vehicle just yet. @AutoblogGreen @NPR - #NHTSA has OK'd GM rear-view system that can switch between mirror & camera views. pic.twitter.com/6CBeIit10v — Anthony Foxx (@SecretaryFoxx) February 22, 2016 The Full Display Mirror was developed by Gentex, which has long worked with GM. The FDM debuted in 2014 and some people hoped it would also make its way into the Tesla Model X. Gentex, which also makes auto-dimming mirrors, says that it has "set out to develop the technologies and core competencies necessary to manage this evolution of the rearview mirror." The Chevy Bolt EV will start at $37,500, before incentives. The 200-mile EV will go into production late this year for likely sale in early 2017. Related Video:
