1966 Chevrolet Caprice 396

This 1966 Caprice with only 67k actual miles is a true time capsule.  It runs and drives incredible and I would not hesitate to take it across country.  It is documented with a c
opy of the original Dealer Invoice.  The 396/325hp V8 engine is the one it left the factory with (vin and broach marks clearly visible on the deck pad), and it has its original Turbo 400 transmission and 12 Bolt rear.  Factory options include Power Steering, Power Brakes, Factory Gauges, AM Pushbutton radio with Rear Speaker, Deluxe Seat Belts, Tinted Windshield, Trunk Light, Air Conditioning, Astro Bucket Seats with Headrests, and Front and Rear Floor Mats.

The car runs and drives amazing!  Every engine component is original to the car with the exception of the water pump and starter.  The engine was recently rebuilt and up until then the engine bay was untouched.  When the engine was rebuilt it was also repainted so I went ahead and touched up the air cleaner and radiator so the whole engine bay looks nice and clean.  The underhood still retains its factory black paint with a hint of Aztec Bronze.  The hood insulation was falling apart so I removed it but new molded hood insulation is available if the new owner wishes to replace it.  The car has its original exhaust manifolds and part of the original single exhaust pipes.  There were several holes in the pipes so NOS Walker tailpipes with resonators were located and the exhaust was changed to dual with OEM style mufflers which keep it quiet in the car with just a little rumble outside which is perfect for this car.

The car still retains most of its original Aztec Bronze factory paint with the exception of an area touched up on the hood, some repaint on the right rear quarter panel and  some touch up on the driver side.  As far as I can tell the rest of the paint is original and in fantastic condition for its age.  It does show minor lacquer checking and a few dings and paint chips here and there.  The car is completely rust free and has never had any rust repair.  All the sheetmetal is original including the trunk and floorpans.  The vinyl top and all the brightwork and chrome is original as is the glass.  The car is riding on 15" Ralley Wheels with new Coker radial redline tires.

The factory Bronze Bucket Seat interior is completely original and is in exceptional condition!  All gauges, lights, heater, AC work with the exception of the clock.  The AM radio works great.  The AC blows hard and blows cool, but not as cold as it should be.  I have a can of R12 but haven't been able to find anyone with the needed equipment to top it off yet.  The compressor works fine and I'm sure that after all these years that's all it needs to blow ice cold.  The drivers seat has a few places where the stitching is beginning to pull apart and there are a couple of areas on the dash where the paint is peeled, but other than that the interior is in amazing original condition.  It even has the original Aztec Bronze floor mats!

This car is always a hit at car shows and constantly turns heads with its stunning color combination of Aztec Bronze with Bronze interior.  It is a dream to drive as it floats down the road with power to spare.  The power steering, automatic transmission and air conditioning make for one fantastic summer cruiser! '84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models. General Motors Recall List

Wed, Oct 22 2014

It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. We used the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall list to compile a snapshot of all the GM vehicles recalled in the last two months. NHTSA also provides a search engine that allows owners to search for recalls on their vehicle. An automotive company must do everything in their power to notify its customers when a recall is issued on a vehicle. If you own any of the following vehicles and you have questions regarding your car, you can contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, Buick at 1-800-521-7300 and Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. Or check out General Motor's recall site. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov. Here's a brief summery of the other vehicles currently under recall: July 26 – 414,333 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V447000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. Problem: In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position. Consequence: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Solution: Dealers will replace the height adjuster shoulder bolts, free of charge. July 14 – 16,939 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V341000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured October 18, 2010, to June 2, 2011. Problem: In the affected vehicles, vibrations from the drive shaft may cause the vehicle's roll over sensor to command the roof rail air bags to deploy. Consequence: If the roof rail air bags deploy unexpectedly, there is an increased risk of crash and injury to the occupants.
