Thanks for looking at our 1974 Chevrolet Camaro.  This car has fresh paint and interior, new tires and wheels and a very strong rebuilt small block 350 and transmission.  It's FAST AND LOUD so if your looking to sneak around, this isn't your car. You can depend on firing half a dozen car alarms in your trip through the parking lot.  In underground parking, you can make mayhem while devastating car alarms to your hearts content.

We bought the car as an unfinished but running project.  The motor and trans had been completed rebuilt but otherwise the car looked pretty sad.

We found that indeed the engine and trans were very strong.  We suspect she's a 383 stroker but aren't sure.  The car runs cool in LA traffic.  Headers feed Flowmasters into short pipes that end at the axle. The B&M QuickSilver shifter works flawlessly.

Thanks to her 1974 Birthday, this beauty is SMOG EXEMPT in California.  No  annual testing or requirements.

This is a Factory Air Conditioned car but the compressor is not present.

Tilt Steering Wheel,  Aftermarket AM FM CD with removable face.  Just installed new 6X9 Speakers on the new package shelf.  Tons of volume and bass.  Sounds great.

Glass is good all around. Passenger door glass may need adjustment.  New rubber door seals, roof rail seals, window fuzzies, etc.  We understand that this is the sought after small back window model?

New upholstery, headliner, carpet and door panels. Grant steering wheel. Updated dash.

Fresh Repaint to factory original white.  Later model hood scoop. Pans and trunk are solid

New 18" REV Wheels and Sumitomo tires. 20 lock lugs and key.  New Gabriel air shocks.

Runs and drives well.  Lots of attention and always welcome at cruise nights and weekend car gatherings.

Will post engine pics. Ran out of light and time.

This Camaro is currently licensed, registered and insured in California.  No sensors, gps, abs, tpms or any other pms. The most complicated part of this Camaro is likely the radio.

The California title is clean and issued in the sellers name.

Included is a complete build book with receipts, build pictures on CD and other documents related to this car.

Values on these pre-smog Camaro's continue to escalate as collectors realize how few cars are left.

Parts are plentiful and reasonable.  Get this nice one and you'll be right back to 1974 in a bad ass way.

Open to southern California area partial, up or down vehicle trades.  pre 1975 Muscle cars, Volvo P1800, Metropolitan, Alfa Romeo, Porsche 911, 240Z 260Z 280Z, older Cadillac, Camaro, Mustang, Vintage race cars, older Jaguars, British sports cars, kit cars, project cars, 1948-1986 interesting cars.  No boats, motorcycles or aircraft please.

On Apr-23-14 at 15:34:36 PDT, seller added the following information:

Thanks for all of your questions and comments!!  Posting a few more shots of the Camaro.  In doing so, I'm reminded of the hipo Edelbrock intake and carburetor, HEI ignition and the other upgrades this car has had.  New front marker lenses are in the back seat. (see pics)  Quite a car and seeing anything like this in the parking lot is pretty rare indeed.  Good luck bidders!

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

2016 Chevrolet Equinox gets styling tweaks, not much else

Thu, Feb 12 2015

The current Chevy Equinox debuted over five years ago, in late 2009. Since then, the midsize crossover segment has become increasingly important, with brand-new entries meeting substantially overhauled versions of existing nameplates. But the Equinox carried on, largely unchanged. And while Chevy is using its Chicago Auto Show stage to debut the freshened, 2016 Equinox, it appears there isn't a whole lot to talk about. Take a look at the updated Equinox's exterior and you're pretty much going to see all that's new for 2016. Sure, the Chevy still boasts a handsome, inoffensive design, and it's now upgraded with things like LED running lamps on top-level trims, as well as new 17- and 18-inch wheel designs, projector beam headlamps, and revised taillamp styling. Moving inside, Chevy has added a standard seven-inch color touchscreen to all models, which includes a backup camera. New-to-Equinox safety features like side cross traffic alert and side blind zone alert are also available for 2016. And really, that's about it. Powertrain options carry over from last year. On the base end, there's a 2.4-liter inline-four that's good for up to 32 miles per gallon on the highway (with front-wheel drive). Buyers can also opt for a 301-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 that allows the Equinox to tow up to 3,500 pounds. Will this be enough to keep the Equinox fresh in its highly competitive class? In 2014, the Equinox did outsell lower-volume competitors like the Mazda CX-5 and Subaru Forester, but was bested by fresher offerings like the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4. Have a look at all there is to know about the 2016 Equinox in the press blast below. We'll have live images and more impressions direct from the Chicago show floor, soon. Fresh Face: Chevrolet Introduces Restyled 2016 Equinox Premium cues, new safety features enhance Chevy's record-selling compact SUV CHICAGO – Chevrolet today introduced the 2016 Equinox – a contemporized version of the popular compact SUV. Updates include new styling with premium accents, new wheel designs and new available safety features, as well as a larger color touchscreen radio and a standard rear-vision camera for entry-level models.

Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla P85D upgrades coming soon, lease a Chevy Volt for $149 a month

Wed, Dec 31 2014

CarCharging has raised $6 million from shareholders and has restructured to save cash. The EV charging company plans to expand further in 2015 - with an eye toward achieving profitability - in part by investing in technology and "unlocking the value of our significant equipment inventory," says CarCharging CEO Michael D. Farkas. The group expects to reduce administrative costs by 40 percent, and has hired an interim Chief Financial Officer to help carry out its plans for growth. CarCharging raised the cash through offering convertible preferred stock to its shareholders, whom Farkas thanked "for their passion and patience." Read more in the press release below. Rydell Chevrolet in Los Angeles is offering Chevrolet Volt leases for $149 per month. In a video ad, Rydell offers the Volt for $169 a month with $3,390 due at signing, but another ad shows the offer at $149 a month with $3,550 down or $248 per month with $0 down. Rydell Chevrolet will ship the car anywhere in the lower 48 states. It also appears they offer cupcakes. See Rydell's video below, or read more at Inside EVs. Tesla will upgrade the Model S P85D with higher performance and top speed. The free update, which is due "in the next few months" according to a statement from Tesla, will raise the electronically limited top speed from 130 to 155 miles per hour. "Additionally, an over-the-air firmware upgrade to the power electronics will improve P85D performance at high speed above what anyone outside Tesla has experienced to date," Tesla says. The update will be available for the lifetime of the car, which includes subsequent owners. Read more at Green Car Reports.
