Up for sale I have a 1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. This is a true IROC-Z, not an RS with IROC badges. 5.0 Liter TPI Automatic. This is a NICE ready to go, cruiser. Entire car was stripped and repainted 2 years ago. Paintjob is a 9/10 at least. Underside of hood and doorjams included. No exterior rust, and underside is CLEAN. Very clean for a northern car. nothing but light oxidation/surface rust on exposed metal parts. I've been underneith it and only noticed one small rust spot behind the rear bumper. I've owned 4 of these cars and they all seem to have rust there. Floors are solid/clean. Same goes for under the hood. Interior is in great shape. 1 small wear spot on drivers seat but not ripped yet just worn. Dashpad is MINT. Only a few small cracks in the speaker grills. It does need a shifter bezel and shift knob because it had a B+M megashifter in it and I had to take it out because my wife hated it. (to hard to work with small hands) However the stock shifter is in it and its fully drivable as is. Just not pretty. Has an aftermarket CD player. I believe its alpine. Other than that interior is great. T-Tops are original glass and don't leak. You can see in the pics the edges were sanded down for paint but never finished, as well as the narrow metal trim piece at the rear of the side windows. 2 small things that can be painted with a rattle can cheap and easy just never got around to it. Rims are in excellent shape and are wrapped in brand new tires. less than 200 miles on tires.

Car starts and runs great. None of that dreaded blue smoke on startup from the notorious valve-guide seals. The guy I got it from said he had the top end freshened up but I have no proof of what he did so assume its never been touched. I did have 8 new injectors installed. (1 was bad so I bit the bullet and did all 8) The only "mechanical" flaw I know of is the exhaust shield over the converter is rattling a little. easy fix nut I wanted to disclose that.

Now for the good stuff. The guy I bought this from was in the process of building a street/strip bruiser. He did all the paint work and got it pretty. Then was forced to sell before getting to far into the mechanical aspect. So it has a lot of nice aftermarket parts including:

Hotchkis Strut Tower Brace

Hotchkis Weld In Subframe Connectors

Hotchkis Panhard Bar

Hotchkis Rear Control Arms

Street/Strip Harmonic Balancer

3.73 Rear End Gears

Aluminum Driveshaft

Line-Lock race brake

Flowmaster Cat-Back Exhaust (oem cat still in place)

K+N Air Filters

All 8 Brand New OEM fuel injectors

Some chrome dress up pieces under the hood

Previous owner barely finished it and was forced to sell it so its never been raced/abused. I bought it for my wife and its too much for her so I'm selling it to buy another toy. I've had this car over 2 years and put maybe 200 miles on it. Nice car, Runs great. Wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. But I have my own and my wife doesn't drive it. I always store my summer toys inside during the winter but I want my garage back. I've got this outside now so thats where its staying. I have a brand new car cover for it that will be included in the sale.

These are hard to find in this good of shape. Especially at this price. If it doesn't get any bids I'll store it another winter and the price will GO UP in the spring. Title is clear and ready to transfer. This car WILL sell to the highest bidder regardless of price so BID TO WIN!!!

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Email, or call/text (3I5)-27I-6455 Thanks,  Justin

I reserve the right to end auction early as this car is also for sale locally.

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.

2016 Chevy Volt will have more EV range, bigger battery

Tue, Oct 28 2014

Meet the new Volt, not the same as the old Volt. That appears to be the story when General Motors introduces the 2016 Chevy Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Today we're getting some more details on the guts of the new plug-in hybrid, and it turns out they're going to be much improved from the current Volt, which first went on sale at the end of 2010. Sure, the first-gen Volt did get some improvements along the way (a slightly larger battery pack, lane departure warnings) but the new Volt – which will go on sale in the second half of 2015 – marks the first time GM has been able to return to the drawing board and really make the improvements that its customers want. That's how Larry Nitz, GM's executive director of vehicle electrification explained it to AutoblogGreen today when explaining the all-new Voltec extended range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain. "In the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability." – Larry Nitz Nitz said that the new Volt will be better in almost every sense: a bigger battery, longer EV-only range, 20 percent better acceleration in the low speed range and higher overall efficiency. This is due, in part, to the Volt's two motors being able to both act as generators and power the car. As we noted this morning, the 2016 Volt will use a larger, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a version of which is already used in the Chinese-market Cruze. Nitz said that this has a number of benefits, including more power and quieter operation. "Some people would say, why did you make [the first-gen engine] so big. I would say, why did you make it so small?" he said. "It works good, our customers love it, but the reality is that if you go a little bit off and use the car a little harder, you can get the engine to need to operate at a higher speed. In an EV, that's quite noticeable. So, what we did in the Gen 2 is we gave the engine a little more power, a little more torque, a little more displacement, more capability and what it has marginally enabled is not only is it more efficient but it's also quieter." Nitz wouldn't talk about how the new powertrain might affect the two other products that use the Volt's underpinnings – the Cadillac ELR and the Opel Ampera – but if you've got a quieter option, we assume that's something ELR drivers would enjoy. But that's a story for another day.

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Chevrolet Spectrum Sport Coupe

Wed, Aug 23 2023

Before General Motors created the Geo brand for cars built or designed by its overseas partners, the Chevrolet Division put its badges on U.S.-market versions of the Toyota Corolla Sprinter, the Suzuki Cultus and the Isuzu Gemini. Those cars were known as the Nova, the Sprint and the Spectrum, and all became Geos starting with the 1989 model year. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of the last Chevy Spectrums ever sold, found in a Denver self-service yard a few months ago. Midway through 1988, the Chevrolet Spectrum abruptly became the Geo Spectrum and was assigned to the 1989 model year. This car was built in May 1988, making it one of the very last of the pre-Geo Spectrums. The Chevrolet/Geo Spectrum was available as a four-door sedan and as a three-door hatchback, from the 1985 through 1989 model years. For 1988 only, a Spectrum Sport Coupe package, featuring some trim upgrades and these rad decals, could be had on the hatchback. This car was essentially identical to its Isuzu-badged counterpart, the I-Mark. In 1988, the MSRP for the cheapest possible Chevy Spectrum hatchback (the stripped-down Spectrum Express) was $6,495, while its somewhat better-equipped I-Mark twin started at $7,439 (that's $17,128 and $19,617 in 2023 dollars). Meanwhile, the base Hyundai Excel hatchback listed at $5,295 and the Yugo GV cost a hilarious $4,199 ($13,963 and $10,941 in today's money). Power came from this 1.5-liter SOHC four-cylinder, rated at 70 horsepower. A turbocharged version with 110 horsepower was available as well. You could get an automatic transmission in the Spectrum, but this car has the base five-speed manual. This car didn't get the optional air conditioning, but at least it has the traditional Isuzu HVAC control icons featuring blow-dried hair and high-heeled dominatrix boots. Just over 170,000 miles on the odometer. Someone installed a pretty good (for the 1980s) Blaupunkt Charlotte CR148 cassette deck in the dash. This was a necessity if you wanted to enjoy full appreciation of the music of the era. The Spectrum is special! It's as slick as city rain. "I didn't spend a lot of money but with my Spectrum it looks like I did." Joe Isuzu mocked Toyota salesmen when pitching the I-Mark. As was nearly always the case during the 1980s, the JDM ads for the same car were much more fun. They should have recreated this commercial with Spectrums.
