I re-listed this car due to my making an error in the previously listing's VIN number. I apologize to those that were following that auction on my error. The VIN shown is now correct. Thanks much for your understanding.

1996 Camaro z28 SLP built SS optioned car. Car build number is 2095. I purchased the car recently with intentions of restoring it back to original. That is not going to happen due to very large ( and enormous ) tax due bills. This car is very clean with cloth interior. T-tops and sun shades. Optional 17" wheels. Torsen 3.42 locking differential, aluminum driveshaft, welded in frame connectors, great shifting t-56 6-speed trans. The stereo does not work, it was an original Bose CD system when new, it was changed out and I disconnected when I purchased it.

Several items have been added to this car from stock and several items have been removed from stock.

First the removed items are: ABS brake system removed and manual proportioning valve installed. Second the smog pump has been removed. Third the exhaust manifolds removed and Hooker super comp long tube headers installed.  Fourth the catalytic converters have been removed. Fifth the computer has been reprogrammed by aftermarket firm, I have an original GM 1996 unmolested computer for a 6-speed car that comes with purchase, the GM part number matches to the original modified unit now in the car.

I have the missing smog pump & parts. I have the ABS brake module. I have new USA built catalytic converters, I have the original exhaust manifolds and some shorty Hooker super comp emission legal headers, all will be included with successful bid.

This car is not legal to license here in Salt Lake City due to emission requirements. No mdification at all allowed to OBDII cars, not even a dyno tune to a stock computer! I cannot do the work to re-install the items to make it emission legal. If you live in an area that requires stock emissions this is not the car for you unless you can replace the items I have stated were removed.

The good is that the car runs great, it shifts great, stops great and looks great at 10-feet. The interior is very nice as is the dash pad and cover. The original wiring harness mostly is intact, a few repairs here and there, I have some radio OEM pigtails to fix. All the connectors in the harnesses are there for the ABS pump/module and the SMOG pump and solenoid, nothing cut. The EGR system is intact and sensors still hooked up for that.

The car needs tires badly. I would not drive more than a mile or two, they hold air fine but are badly cracked on the sidewalls. This car was originally a red car, previous owner had it painted nicely but there are currently some paint flaws in the millenium yellow color, front bumper was backed into by a truck with a hitch attached and scratched, the driver door was keyed, the rear bumpers is paint cracked, there is a small dent passenger side rear quarter panel.

Please ask questions in a reasonable time so I can answer before the auction ends. Winning bidder pays a $1000.00 non refundable deposit within 24-hours of auction end. Please have the funds available prior to bidding. I cannot afford to relist this car and not pay my tax bill on time.

Winning bidder makes all arrangements for pickup, and or delivery, I will be here at an appointed time to assist.

If you want a phone number to talk during daylight hours please email and I will respond. This car is sold as is, and where is, no further warranty implied and no guarantee to road ability once paid for.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint

Sun, Feb 6 2022

Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:

Here are the best-selling cars and trucks from January 2015

Fri, Feb 6 2015

Every month, Autoblog slogs through all the sales figures reported by automakers that do business in the United States, and, after a little bit of sorting, we put it into an easy-to-read chart in an attempt to make it as easy as possible to follow the ins and outs of sales and shipments. But that only covers the brands themselves, not the individual models they sell. And we think you'd all be interested in knowing which vehicles beat their rivals in sales from month to month, so we've put together this handy gallery to keep you in the know. While the leader of the pack may not come as much of a surprise, the order that the top ten finishes in changes frequently – due to automaker deals, the price of gas, etc. – and we've included some statistics to help you see how their current performance stacks up to month's past. Junkyard Gem: 2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS Sedan

Sun, Jun 14 2020

The story of Daewoo in North America took some interesting plot turns over the decades. First we had the 1988-1993 Pontiac LeMans, a rebadged Daewoo LeMans. A bit later, Daewoo began selling cars under its own nameplate here, with the Lanos, Nubira, and Leganza available for the 1999-2002 model years. Then Daewoo fled the continent and left warranty service of those cars in the hands of Manny, Moe, and Jack. With GM taking over Daewoo Motors after Daewoo's bankruptcy, we got some Daewoos with Suzuki badges here— the Verona and the Reno— while Chevrolet began selling the South Korean-built Daewoo Kalos as the Aveo for the 2004 model year. This car may not be a gem in the sense that you would want to own one, but it's a gem of automotive history and thus deserves its place in this series (especially because it's one of the rare 5-speed cars sold here). Many (maybe even most) of these cars ended up in the hands of rental-car companies and other fleet users, but we can tell from the three-pedal setup that this car went to a non-fleet buyer. We've had a couple of these cars compete in the 24 Hours of Lemons, where I work as a dignified and respected race official, and they've been amazingly quick on a road course in the hands of good drivers. Power came from this 103-horsepower Opel-designed four displacing 1.6 liters. The Nubira and Lanos got versions of this engine on these shores, too. The LS was the top trim level for the Aveo in 2004, so this car got air conditioning and a halfway decent audio system (by 2004 standards). The seat fabric is industrial-grade stuff, which would have held up well under the steady drip and/or torrents of bodily fluids coating the interiors of rental cars. The 2004 Aveo LS started at $12,045, which comes to about $16,675 in 2020 dollars, so it was a lot of commuter-appliance for the price. The following generation of this car became the Chevrolet Sonic, beginning with the 2012 model year. You can still buy a new Sonic, and the inflation-adjusted price is nearly identical to that of the original AveoÂ… though you might want to move fast if you really want one, because Daewoo stopped selling the Kalos in South Korea not long ago. If you want the rarest member of the Aveo family available in North America, find yourself a hen's-teeth Pontiac G3, the short-lived Pontiac-badged version. Speaking of the G3, here's the way it broke the hearts of gas pumps around the world.
