1988 IROC-Z Camaro.  I have owned this car for almost 11 years, and it is an exceptional 3rd gen Camaro.  I don't want to sell this at all, but I never drive it anymore and I could really use the space in my garage.

I bought the car from a guy in Missouri around 2003.  As far as he knew, the car had spent most of its life around that area.  He had owned it for years and had put a lot of work into it.  Shortly before I bought it from him he had the car painted, rebuilt the transmission, and replaced the motor.  The paint job is not show quality after all this time, but it still looks fantastic.  It is a metallic gm maroon color that looks great in the sun.  The car still has zero rust and no real major exterior issues.  There are a few chips here and there, but nothing exceptional.  The original color of the car was bright red.  I still have the receipt from him when he had the transmission rebuilt too.  It is a 700r4 (that I believe is original) with a very stiff shift kit.  When you go to accelerate it shifts very precise from gear to gear.  The car was originally a carburetor 305, but he had upgraded to the 305 tune port at some point.  I don't know why this was done.  When I purchased the vehicle the odometer was at approximately 80,000 miles.  I don't know for sure if the odometer has turned over, but if it has I'd be very surprised given the condition of the vehicle.

In the 10 plus years I've owned this I have done everything possible to maintain and take care of this car.  When I originally bought it I was in college, and I just used this as a summer car and it has never been driven in the winter since I've owned it (the previous claimed he did the same too).  For the first couple of years I owned this car, there were some basic repairs I had done.  Most notably, I had to replace the injectors and I had those upgraded to performance rather than stock.  Also, I had the fuel pump replaced and a/c repaired.

For about the last 7 years I've owned this car, it has mostly just sat in a garage in storage.  However, each spring I would put insurance on it and drive it around a little and would also be sure to start it periodically when it was not being driven.  The car has been meticulously maintained and could be driven anywhere with confidence at any time.

The rims are 17 inch torque thrust with yokohoma tires.  They look great and were extremely expensive when purchased new.  The car runs great and honestly has no issues.  It has flowmaster dual exhaust and is a lot of fun to drive.  In addition, I have a pretty high end Pioneer cd player with 2 10inch subs run by a Kenwood 600 watt amp that I'm planning on going with the car.  Also, this car has pretty decent options for a 1988.  It has power everything, 4 wheel disc brakes, and t-tops.

At this time, there are no significant issues or problems at all, but this is a 25 year old car and I'll do my best to mention all of the little quirks and minor issues I can think of.  First off, the passenger side door needs adjusted or new bushings or something.  I've noticed that the gap between the fender and door has widened slightly over time.  The biggest imperfection with the paint is on the front passenger side of the front bumper there is a spot of the paint that was touched up that is about the size of a fist.  The interior is in above average condition, but it certainly isn't perfect.  The front seats have a few cigarette burns, but I've always had high quality car seat covers so its never bothered me.  Lastly, since it hasn't been driven much for years the a/c isn't currently blowing cold,  but everything is there and it works.  The car has been converted to 134 and if you added new refrigerant, the a/c would blow cold.

In all of the time I have owned this car, I have only put on like 10,000 miles because this was always just a fun spare car.  I seriously have about 15 years worth of receipts between myself and the previous owner that equal thousands and thousands of dollars worth of maintenance and repairs.  I love this car and am sad to see it go, but its time.  I'd love to see this car go to someone who would simply drive it more than I do.  I've seen similar condition 3rd gen Camaros sell for around $7,000 to $8,000, but I'm ready for this to move so the reserve will be a lot more reasonable than this price range.  I just can't imagine a lot of 80's Camaros out there that are in this condition and have this much history and paperwork that goes a long with it.  If you have any questions or want to see it in person, please just ask.  309-219-1196.  Call or text anytime.

***I totally understand the importance of vin checks on old used cars, but the low score is really frustrating.  If you were to do a vin check there is a discrepancy in miles reported at one point and I suspect this has something to do with the engine replacement.  In addition, when I purchased this car I lived in Iowa and it had a Missouri title at that point.  Since then I moved from Iowa and had to retitle it to Illinois.  I believe this process messed up the numbers of owners listed, but there's not much I can do about it.  All I know is that I've owned this car for over 10 years and the condition speaks for itself.***

Weekly Recap: Volvo buys Polestar, makes performance a priority

Sat, Jul 18 2015

Volvo is taking its performance business in-house, and the Swedish carmaker announced Tuesday that it bought tuning company Polestar, which has long been known for producing sporty Volvos. The move allows Volvo to ramp up its performance business, and it plans to increase Polestar-branded vehicle sales to 1,000 to 1,500 annually, up from the 750 total projected for this year. The companies have been working together on motorsports projects since 1996. Financial terms of the sale were not released, and Polestar workers will move over to Volvo. Former Polestar owner Christian Dahl will keep control of the Polestar racing team and operate it under a new name. In addition to sales volume, Volvo has ambitious plans for other parts of Polestar, including its aftermarket business. Volvo also said it will use its twin-engine hybrid technology for Polestar models in the future, though specifics and timing were not revealed. Meanwhile, Volvo announced it will offer a run of 265 total Polestars in the United States for the 2016 model year, with S60 and V60s available. "Driving a Volvo Polestar is a special experience. We have decided to bring this experience to more Volvo drivers, placing the full resources of Volvo behind the development of Polestar as the model name for our high performance cars," Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, get nose jobs Automakers tend to refer to light updates as 'facelifts,' and that's exactly what Chevy gave the 2016 Silverado and GMC Sierra. Chevy slightly changed the front end of the truck. Using the one photo released of the new Z71 model as a guide, we can see that the headlights went from a stacked vertical design to single bulbs, and they are set on top of LED running lights. The grille has more body-colored elements instead of shiny metal, and the hood has a new line running down the middle (look really closely). The design theme will be similar across the portfolio, though materials and details will vary, a spokesman said. Some models, like the High Country and LTZ will have more chrome, and the LEDs are only for the upper trims. Chevy also said it will use the eight-speed automatic transmission on more versions of the Silverado, and it updated the MyLink feature to support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

1983 Motorweek showdown pits Porsche 928S vs. Chevy Camaro Z28

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Last month, Motor Trend threw the Camaro Z/28 and Porsche 911 GT3 into the bear pit and let them fight it out. Way back in 1983, MotorWeek had the same idea, comparing the Camaro Z/28 to the Porsche 928S. At the time, the Camaro was America's best selling sports coupe, the 928S was Porsche's top-of-the-line model that also had the highest top speed of any car sold here. And the price differential was even more stark then: $13,600 for the Camaro, $45,000 for the Porsche. That put the Z/28's cast-iron, 5.0-liter V8 with 190 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque against the all-aluminum 4.7-liter V8 with 234 hp and 263 lb-ft in the 928S. Even with that and the Camaro being 14 inches longer than the Porsche, the American was a surprising 40 pounds lighter than the German. The show took them to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to see how close a relative performance bargain could hang with a the German GT. Both had five-speed manual transmissions, but the high-speed corners and tight sections of Summit Point would test other handling variables, including the "bone-rattling" Camaro's solid rear axle and disc and drum brake setup vis-a-vis the four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension on the "firm-but-smooth" Porsche. Paradoxically, the larger disparity 22 years ago resulted in a closer result. Check out the video to see how the Summit was won.
