For sale is the rarest of all the irocs. A 1985 silver metallic. If you are an iroc lover like myself then you already know that 1985 was the first year or the iroc and the ONLY year for a silver metallic iroc. They did not make silver after this year. I will describe the vehicle to the best of my ability. i will give the cons first because the list is very short.ok here goes, it will need a new hood, some where during storage the battery leaked out and the hood and battery tray have been damaged. the pics will show the hood damage. the interior can use a face lift but mainly the front seats, the rugs and head liner. the dash and rear seats are in very good condition. the weather stripping around the windows and T-Tops need to be replaced also. they are very brittle. and there is a small rust spot , smaller then a quarter on the rear deck lid, just where it meets the rear spoiler. ok now the pros, all the gauges are working, all the power options are functioning properly, i had the radio upgraded, so now it is 100% stock but it has a small port for an ipod or MP3 player. i just did over $1600.00 of mechanical work. what was done....gas tank was dropped and drained of all old stale gas, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new water pump, complete tune up including all new plugs, pcv and air filters. every belt and hose was replaced with new. the radiator was drained and flushed and all new anti freeze was added. new brakes, two new brake lines, the rear end was drained and fresh oil was added. an oil change with new filter and synthetic oil and lucas oil treatment was added. All fluids were checked and topped off.I also have several new parts for the car. i have a brand new battery tray, a set of new fog lights, and the weather stripping that goes along the front windows ( usually called window fuzzies). if i get time before the auction ends i will install the parts, if not they will be shipped with the vehicle. The car has four brand new tires, less then 50 miles on the tires. The car runs and drives excellent. i just can not afford to finish it the way i wanted and finish a 66 chevelle SS that i am way too deep into. In my opinion it is in great driver condition, but a care this clean and this rare needs to be finished properly. I have only seen two other silver irocs, both were mint. one sold for $19,000 and one sold for $25,000. So if you are able to invest a small amount of money into the car, you have a potentially very valuable vehicle, and they are only going up every year. this is a heart breaker to sell but it needs a good home and i need the room to finish another project. shipping is obviously the buyers responsibility, i will make myself as available as possible to help get it picked up and shipped but the buyer pays all shipping costs.I am selling it locally so i can end the auction if it sells. thank you for looking.

Fingers point to dragged-out NHTSA investigation after second death by ARC airbag inflator
Thu, Oct 14 2021Safety advocates have increased criticism of the federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after an exploding airbag inflator that's been under investigation for more than six years killed a second person. On Wednesday, NHTSA posted recall documents filed by General Motors that revealed the second death, the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse SUV with an inflator made by Tennessee company ARC blew apart, spewing shrapnel. No details were given about where and when the death occurred. NHTSA has said that ARC Automotive of Knoxville has manufactured about 8 million inflators used nationwide in vehicles made by General Motors, Fiat Chrysler (now Stellantis), Kia and Hyundai. “NHTSA should have been all over this along time ago,” said Rosemary Shahan, president of California-based Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety. “There's just no denying that itÂ’s a (safety) defect.” NHTSA, the agency charged with with keeping America's automobiles and roads safe, began investigating ARC inflators in July of 2015 after two people were injured by flying shrapnel. The investigation became more urgent in 2016, when a Canadian woman driving an older Hyundai Elantra was killed by metal airbag fragments. Public records show only a little progress on the probe. In April, the agency posted a memo in saying it was reviewing volumes of information it received from ARC. Safety advocates such as Shahan say that the dragged-out investigation is an example of the deadly consequences that can result from an understaffed and underfunded agency. The second death should not have happened, Shahan said, and vehicles with faulty ARC inflators should have been recalled faster. The agency, Shahan said, is “grossly underfunded," but it still should have sought recalls of the ARC inflators. She said historically NHTSA has taken little action during Republican administrations but has ramped up safety efforts when Democrats control the White House. Messages were left Wednesday by the Associated Press seeking comment from NHTSA and ARC. At this time, relatively few vehicles are effected. The GM recall covers only 550 Chevy Traverse SUVs from the 2013 through 2017 model years, as well as Buick Enclave SUVs from 2008 through 2017. The automaker said in a statement that the faulty front driver's airbag inflators were either installed at the factory or in replacement airbag modules.
Corvette owner finds stolen car, but can't get it back [w/video]
Wed, Feb 25 2015It's not too uncommon to hear about owners being reunited with their stolen cars decades after reporting them missing. The story of Terry Dietrich in Georgia starts that way with police finding her lost 1972 Chevrolet Corvette after over 40 years. However, this case takes a different turn because unless she wants to bid on it, Dietrich's likely not getting the 'Vette back. Just six months after purchasing it in 1972, Dietrich's blue Corvette was stolen in Georgia, and in 1975 the sports car found its way to a man in North Carolina. He kept the car right up until his death just a few months ago, and that's when restorer Gary Green bought the 'Vette from his widow, according to Yahoo Autos. Unfortunately, after acquiring the Corvette, Green found some major discrepancies. For one thing, the listed VIN pointed to a '69 convertible, and there was a different serial number on the frame. Green reported the problem to the local police, and they figured out it was the 'Vette Dietrich lost over four decades ago. Consequently, the cops impounded it. The issue now arises that while Dietrich is the victim of the theft, she isn't technically the car's last legal owner. After the Corvette was stolen, she reported the crime to her insurance company, and it paid on the claim, which essentially forfeited her ownership. To make matters slightly more confusing the company can't find the title on the 'Vette either, according to Yahoo Autos. That leaves the well preserved 'Vette sitting in a police impound lot. It will likely go to auction.
2014 Corvette Stingray meets Tesla Model S in drag strip showdown
Wed, Jan 29 2014They come from two different worlds and have little in common. The Tesla Model S P85 is the sportiest version of this paradigm-punching sedan from California, while the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a performance-enhanced version of Michigan's recently-updated sports car stalwart. The West Coast car seats five adults and eats electrons like Popeye eats spinach, the Easterner has two passenger places and, surprisingly, sips gasoline like one might bourbon. An attribute they do happen to share is extreme quickness. This similarity is all the excuse Drag Times needed to set the vehicles beside each other at the Palm Beach International Raceway for a bit of mano-a-mano quarter-mile combat. Fortunately enough, cameras were rolling for each of two bouts down the blacktop and the results recorded for our edification and enlightenment. The winner? We won't spoil it for you, but let's just say it's really, really close. How close? Scroll below and watch the video for yourself. Just be warned, the results may surprise you.
