I'm helping my father to sell his 1972 Chevy Camaro.  He's owned it a few years, and the previous owner really couldn't tell him a whole lot about the particulars of the car.  So most of what we know about it has been through bits and pieces of working on it.  I think it can best be described as a race car that someone tried to convert back into a street vehicle.  I'll try to be as thorough as I can with what I know.

What it is and what it has:
1972 Cheverolet Camaro.  It's NOT a Z/28, one of the previous owners affixed the badges.
400 Small block bored .30 over.  It's not a 350.
Dart aluminum heads (I'll try to get the serial for them)
Solid roller camshaft (unknown lift and duration)
Roller rockers
Holley 750 double pumper
Edelbrock Torker Single plane intake
MSD6AL ignition system
Accel Super Coil
12 bolt rear end
350 turbo transmission
Aluminum raditor
TRW forged/domed pistons
Accel 8.8 Plug wires
8 Gallon fuel cell mounted in the trunk
Electric fuel pump mounted in the back
Roll cage
Race bucket seats
Hurst shifter
Electric fan
Hooker super competition headers
3" exhaust dumping right in front of the back tires through glasspack mufflers
Nitrous
Fiberglass cowl hood (maybe 6")

More about the car:
A best guesstimate of the compression is that it is above 11 to 1 or higher, so no regular gas in this beast.  The car has nitrous that I've never pulled the trigger on.  I think it's a 150 horse shot, but I could be completely off on that and I've never looked into it.  The car has the power steering disconnected and removed, so it's a bit of a bear to steer.  The motor is chained to the frame.  It has ladder bars and looks like it had the attachments for wheelie bars in the back. I've got a set of slicks to go with the existing wheels that go with the car.  It's got a monster tach and a push button starter.  We installed the aluminum radiator and a high torque starter from summit for easier cranking.  The battery is mounted in the back and has a switch on the back that you can turn the car on and off with.  I think we guesstimated the gearing at 4:10's, but the speedo doesn't work so we could be way off.  I have no idea what the stall speed is on the converter.  I think it may have had a trans brake at one time.  There's a 'mystery button' on the console, along with another button on the shifter which I assume is for the nitrous.  It's got the skinny tires in the front and fat in the rear.  They are American racing rims, I can get the particulars on the tires if you want them.

The car is a bit of an animal, and it's only streetable in the loosest sense of the term.  It needs some TLC as far as tuning goes to get things in better shape and it's beyond my skill set or time.  It's set far longer than it should have but drives fine.  There's some rust at the back corners of the doors and a ding in the ridge at the center of the door on the passenger's side.  It would probably do better as a near turn key race car vs. someone trying to change it back to street.  The back seat has been pulled and there's been some aluminum put under the carpeting.  The paint isn't in bad shape but it does have some age.  It's loud enough to scare animals and small children.

Let me know if you have any questions or need any additional pictures.  Good Luck!

GM's MPG overstatement could affect 2 million vehicles

Tue, May 17 2016

Late last week, GM admitted that three of its large SUVs fuel economy window stickers did not match their actual efficiency ratings, and so the vehicles couldn't be sold. The stickers on the 2016 Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave said their ratings were one to two miles per gallon better than they should have been. Officially, the number of affected vehicles sits at about 60,000. But Consumer Reports makes a good point: what's up with all of the previous model year SUVs that are basically the same vehicle? To wit: the 2016 model year vehicles are not substantially different than the 2015 or the 2014, or even going all the way back to 2007. On the EPA's fuel economy website, all of these older models will "have better stated fuel economy numbers than the new vehicles in GM's dealerships," Consumer Reports noted. CR's best point, and the one that makes the 60,000 number potentially grow to 2 million if all of the vehicles built on this platform are affected, is that "[i]t seems unlikely that the company would change the powertrain on these carryover models so late in their model cycles in a way that would cause a dramatic, negative impact on fuel economy." GM says that earlier model year SUVs are not affected and the EPA did not respond to CR's question about the potential for more discrepancies. We've seen automakers reverse course before, so if GM has to come out with a mea culpa soon, don't be surprised. GM is rushing corrected stickers to dealers so that the SUVs can be sold again, but a fix for the already-sold vehicles could be trickier to solve. nuTonomy beats Uber to market with self-driving taxi rides, and the latest Corvette ZR1spy shots | Autoblog Minute

Software developer nuTonomy beats Uber to market with self-driving taxi rides in Singapore. A 124 Coupe could soon join Fiat's roadster lineup, and we have the latest spy shots of the new Corvette ZR!. Senior Editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Mintue. Senior Editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Mintue. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Massachusetts based software company, nuTonomy, launched its self-driving taxi service in Singapore this week. nuTonomy specializes in developing software for self-driving cars. Testing of the companies ride-hailing smartphone app occurred in Singapore, where riders were able to book a free driverless ride. nuTonomy's robo-taxi fleet is comprised of Renault Zoes and Mitsubishi i-MiEVs. Engineers from nuTonomy were present at this public launch as a safety measure. [00:00:30] The company will now continue to collect data and conduct more testing with its self-driving cars in Singapore, Michigan and the United Kingdom. nuTonomy has plans to offer widely-available commercial service in Singapore in 2018. nuTonomy's aggressive play in Singapore has put Uber and its partner Volvo in the unlikely position of playing catch-up. Autocar reported this week that we should expect FCA to add a Coupe [00:01:00] to it's 124 roadster lineup. When? Well, seeing as the 124 Spider just recently made it US dealers we may have to wait until next year to see a hardtop Fiata. It's tough to predict what kind of performance we can expect out of a 124 Coupe but in the U.S. the Spider has 160hp using a 1.4-l turbocharged engine. So the car you see in these pictures is actually Fiat's 124 Rally car that will be used for competition. [00:01:30] Now that's not exactly how the street car will look but it gives you an idea of what a 124 with a fixed roof is gonna look like. This week we got another look at what we think is the Chevy Corvette ZR1 and its massive rear wing. Now to be clear, the images that we're seeing are actually demonstrations. The car was actually captured without the rear wing. However, our spy photographers photoshopped the wing, which we've seen before, on some of these new shots just so you could get [00:02:00] a sense of what the car looks like driving around in it's most recent state. Now we think this car will make more than 700hp, which is kind of a magic number. The Hellcats from Chrysler make 707 so certainly GM wants to beat them.

Chevy Bolt wins 2017 Green Car of the Year

Thu, Nov 17 2016

We knew that a plug-in vehicle was going to win the 2017 Green Car of the Year award this year, given that all five finalists have a way to charge up. And when Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, announced the winner – the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV – he said that the car itself represents one of those times in the auto industry when everything is about to change. Similar to the invention of the starter motor, things are about to get different. For now, though, the fact that the Bolt EV won an award sounds like the same old thing all over again. Just this week, it was named Motor Trends Car of the Year and to the Car And Driver Top 10 list. The other four finalists for Green Car of the Year included the Toyota Prius Prime, the Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia Optima (including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models) and the BMW 330e iPerformance. Last year, the winner was the 2016 Chevy Volt. Did Green Car Journal make the right selection this year? See the award ceremony below.
