1968 CAMARO RS/SS CONVERTIBLE
- BELIEVE TO BE A GM PROMOTIONAL VEHICLE -
LOADED WITH NEARLY EVERY OPTION CHEVROLET OFFERED
Original Bolero Red Paint with Ultra Rare D-88 Stripe
You're looking at a one-of-a-kind LOADED RS/SS 396/350HP Convertible.....equipped with nearly every factory option
Chevrolet offered in 1968. In addition to the raritiy of options, this car is also a SURVIVOR - still wearing its
ORIGINAL 48 year old 'Matador Red' paint, and sporting the beautifully contrasting Deluxe Ivory houndstooth
interior. The first things people notice on this car is the unique nose stripe, which unbeknown to most was
actually a factory option introduced in mid to late '68 production. It is the RPO D-88 Multi Colored Nose Stripe
which was pictured in the second issued 1968 Camaro dealer brochure. The car in the brochure was a red RS with this
identical stripe - colors and all. In all my research, this stripe never made it to production due to the
complexity of painting the 5 color band. But it was believed to have been factory installed a few Camaro's to be
used as GM promotional cars. These promotional cars were all supposedly loaded up Big Block convertibles, like this
one. As stated before, the paint on this car is mostly original (has had a few areas touched up here and there over
the years), but the nose of the car and the stripe appears to 1968 original! All that said, this may be the only
original example of this option existing in the world!
Now, about the options. Yes, it has virtually every option em all! Here is a summary....

How many Camaros were built with this combination of options and color? Certainly less than can be counted on your
fingers. This is truly a RARE Camaro, no doubt. And I'm guessing that if you are still reading this ad at this
point, you likely want to know more about the car. So, here is my history with it.......
I originally purchased this car in 1996 from a man near St Paul Minnesota, after seeing it in Hemmings Motor News.
The car was described in a non-photo ad as a 'RS/SS convertible, red, V/8, many options'....and I paid a whopping
$16,000 sight unseen. I kept the car for almost a year before deciding my wife and newborn son needed a minivan
instead of a Big Block RS/SS Camaro convertible. So along came the Chrysler Town and Country (ohh, a beauty for
sure in fairway green with tan leather - LOL), and away went my dream Camaro. I offered it for sale and it didn't
take but a week or two to sell it. But it wasn't long after sneaking in a few Camaro books (while I was supposed
to be reading Dr Suess) that I read an article about the odd (if not ugly) front 'stripe'...... it was actually an
original Chevrolet option (almost). I guess, as the story goes, it was a bit to difficult to paint in production,
so it was cancelled almost as quickly as it was announced. And I sold one that may have had one of these original,
pre-production stripes!?! Seriously, I let this unique and potentially ultra rare Camaro get away - for a
MINIVAN!?!!!

Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept foreshadows an affordable, 200-mile EV future [w/videos]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Confirming numerous reports and rumors, Chevrolet introduced the Bolt EV Concept, "a vision" of a 200-mile EV with an entry price of around $30,000. Those lofty promises ride atop a funky crossover that made its global debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The orange five door features a spacious greenhouse, complemented by a glass roof and thin D-pillar. A narrow grille and slim LED headlights crown a high fascia that leaves little ahead of its front axle. It's a similar story in back, as General Motors' design boss Ed Welburn sought to limit overhangs and maintain the Bolt's small footprint. "Form and function have never meshed so well together," Welburn said. "No compromises were made when it came to aesthetics and the elements that contribute to the Bolt EV concept's range, resulting in a unique proportion that's sleek, efficient and obviously a Chevrolet." The cabin is not unlike current Chevrolet compacts, with the MyLink touchscreen and a detached instrument cluster dominating the sparse dash. Unlike cars like the Sonic, which features a similar design for its instrument cluster, A Volt-like display is found over the steering column. "The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity," CEO Mary Barra said. "Chevrolet believes electrification is a pillar of future transportation and needs to be affordable for a wider segment of customers." Take a look at both the official gallery of Bolt images, as well as our live shots. And then scroll on down for more comments from GM brass, in the official press release. Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept Signals Brand's EV Strategy Affordable, long-range concept builds on brand's electrification leadership 2015-01-12 DETROIT – Chevrolet today made a significant statement on its commitment to electrification with the introduction of the Bolt EV concept – a vision for an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle designed to offer more than 200 miles of range starting around $30,000. "The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity," said General Motors CEO Mary Barra. "Chevrolet believes electrification is a pillar of future transportation and needs to be affordable for a wider segment of customers." Leveraging the electrification prowess established by Volt and Spark EV, the Bolt EV concept is designed to offer long-range performance in all 50 states and many global markets.

2022 Chevy Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade up another $1,600

Tue, May 31 2022

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the 2022 GMC Yukon and the 2022 Cadillac Escalade have all gone up by $1,600. The GM profit and loss department added $1,500 to the MSRP for each of the full-sized SUVs and $100 to their destination charges, that destination fee now $1,795 for each vehicle. It's not an inconsequential bump; however, considering where the trucks were priced at launch, and everything that's happened since, the latest retail prices don't seem that bad. Take the Suburban — in February 2020, Chevrolet practically carried over pricing for the truck with a revamped interior and independent rear suspension, starting it at $50,295 after destination. After this latest increase, the 2022 Tahoe LS in two-wheel drive costs $55,590, after destination.  The delta between the 2021 Suburban at launch in March 2020 and the current model is a little grander compared to the Tahoe, like the SUV itself. Back then, it started at $52,295, the same price as the outgoing model. After this third price increase in the past year, the 2022 Suburban LS in 2WD starts at $61,290 after destination. GM Authority says the 2023 Tahoe and Suburban are reportedly headed down production lines in the middle of July. The biggest addition to both models will be the availability of Super Cruise, which is already available on the sister SUV, the Cadillac Escalade. The hands-free driving assistance feature can only be optioned on the Premier and High Country trims. It costs $2,500 to put Super Cruise on the Escalade. GM hasn't divulged the feature's price yet for the Chevy twins; that's likely to come when the automaker announces 2023 Tahoe and Suburban MSRPs, so beware of more potential price increases. After that, there's a heavy refresh planned for the 2024 model year, including a new instrument panel design that looks like it replaces the current gauge cluster with a large, freestanding screen.  The Yukon's entry-level price goes up to $57,590 for the SLE trim turning the rear axle.   The Cadillac Escalade's second MSRP bump takes it to $81,235 for the Luxury 600 trim in 2WD, and $84,235 for the extended ESV model in the same trim. The price creep hasn't stopped Escalades from pulling off dealer lots almost as soon as they're delivered, sales for the first quarter of the year totaling 10,505 units, trouncing domestic and foreign competition. 2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra now cost more, again

Thu, May 26 2022

GM Authority put Chevrolet and GMC pickup truck prices under the microscope, spying the same macroscopic issues none of us can avoid seeing: Price increases. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 have been hit with their third price increases this year. The Heavy Duty versions of those same trucks have been given their fourth price increases this year. Starting with the light-duty options, they've been rung up for another $900 across the board, which breaks down to $800 added to the MSRP and $100 added to the destination charge. The mandatory cost for shipping a truck from the factory to the dealer is now $1,795. That destination fee is now more than 5% of the purchase price of the least expensive 2022 Silverado, the Regular Cab Work Truck trim with a Standard Bed and 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder retailing for $36,395 after destination. And that price is $3,200 more than the initial list price from last December. At the other end, the Silverado ZR2 is up $3,400. Average that out, and the Silverado's MSRP has gone up by nearly $700 every month since initial pricing came out. On the GMC side, the bidding starts at $37,195 for the Regular Cab Pro trim with a Standard Bed, a $4,700 increase over pricing announced last October.  Stepping up a tow rating or two, the Silverado HD is now $1,100 more expensive — $1,000 tacked onto the MSRP, the destination charge plumped another $100 to $1,795. The Silvy 2500 HD now starts at $41,295. The Sierra HD turns the screw a few more degrees, going up by $2,100 after the $100 increase for destination. The low bar for the Sierra 2500 HD is $41,995, a $4,100 rise over the price when it hit dealer lots last summer. Whew. Anyone know where the exit is for this "new normal?" Related video:
