1987 Chevrolet Silverado 454 Rollback Tow Truck Wrecker Beautiful 43,000 Miles! on 2040-cars
Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States
This beautiful truck has been owned by us since basically new. I believe when we bought it in later 1987, it may have had 2000 miles on it. Today, it still only has 42,750 original miles! We bought this to haul vehicles to and from our shop when we started out as a dealer, and have just had it ever since. Never in any collisions, it is basically all original. We did have it repainted about 2 years ago because the paint had faded, but now it has beautiful Dupont base/clear coat. The rollback bed is by Jerr-Dan and is the "Wrangler" model. It has a tow bar on the end, which is adjustable, as well as the slide back/forth and up/down features. The winch works great, and the cable is an extra long (can't remember length) one that we installed a few years back. You can easily tow light duty trucks and any types of cars or vans without a problem. The rotating lights are made by Holmes and work great with switches on the dashboard, accept they were never hooked back up last time the battery was replaced. The engine is the 454 cubic inch big block, throttle body injected model. Starts right up every time, without any issues. Works like a fuel injected model, in which you do not have to pump the gas before you start it. About 6 months ago we had both intake manifolds and gaskets replaced as well as spark plugs, fuel filter, oil, etc. The Va state inspection has run out as well as the tags due to us closing our business, but it should pass without problems in any state. Tires are more than half tread left, brakes are almost new. Headlamps have been upgraded to brighter halogen ones. All fluids are in good condition without any leaks. I would rate the exterior of the truck a 9 out of 10. The only thing that could make it any better would be having the wheels polished. The interior is a strong 9.5 out of 10, with no rips, tears, stains, smells, anything out of the ordinary. It is way to nice to be a tow truck. Again, it was never used for a fleet, just for personal use with our business. Feel free to contact me with any questions at: fixencars@gmail.com and I will be glad to answer any questions, or show you the vehicle in person. Thanks and God Bless! |

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable
Tue, 01 Oct 2013What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.
Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.
These are 2014's best-selling cars and trucks
Tue, Jan 6 2015Now that 2014 is no more than a set of numbers on spreadsheets, at last, the grist mill gets its first real load to chew on. The number one selling vehicle in America last year was the Ford F-Series, a fact that should surprise you only if your family name is Van Winkle and your naps tend to last 38 years, which is how long the Ford pickup has ruled our buying landscape. Even though series sales were down 1.3 percent, it still racked up 753,851 units. That's 2,065.3 sales per day, every day, all year. The Chevrolet Silverado, up 10.3 percent for the year, was still a daylight second at 529,755 units. The cab-and-bed love continued into third place with the Ram 1500-3500 trucks, gaining 23.6-percent year-on-year to clock 439,789 units. The robust turnout at The Bighorn and Jeep helped Fiat-Chrysler increase its sales by 16 percent, past the two-million mark. Our number one car? The Toyota Camry, staying in first place with a 4.9-percent sales boost to 428,606 sales, trailed again by the Honda Accord at number five with 388,374 sales. Accord sales rose six percent, and if it's any consolation to Honda for coming in second - not that it needs one - it is the only manufacturer to have three vehicles in the top ten. The rest of the list: the Nissan Altima with 335,644 sales (+4.7%), the Honda CR-V with 355,019 (+10.2%), the Toyota Corolla/Matrix combo with 339,498 (+5.9%), the Honda Civic with 325,981 (-3.1%), and the Ford Fusion with 306,860 sales (+2.9%). Total sales for the year were up six percent to 16.5 million vehicles, a volume not seen since 2006, aided by a strong December that was up by 11 percent year-on-year. Ford was the top selling brand overall but sales didn't really budge from 2013, while Subaru rocketed up 21 percent to finish with 513,693 sales. At the precious end, BMW, Audi, Porsche and Land Rover all had record years, and Kelley Blue Book thinks we could be looking at 17 million sales for the next two or three years. Looks like it's time to start making hay again...
