1987 Chevy Stepside, auto 350 TBI V8, Silverado
I have owned this truck for 20 years, it was originally a Black 6' Fleetside truck. I purchased the truck with 85000 and I'm the third owner. Truck is fully loaded, I had the cruise control disconnected in 1996. Passenger side window goes up and down very slow. Truck had a new engine installed at 280000 miles and was repainted in 2005, I also had the truck repainted in 5/1997. Some of the photos are from the truck in the autobody shop in 2005. Truck currently has 280744 miles and counting since I'm still using it for errands. The rear end is a posi unit and was rebuilt by GM along with the transmission at the beginning of 2004. In 2005, I changed beds and installed a stepside bed and changed the color of the truck from Black to Navy Blue. It is due for another paint job to address the rust at the front of the cab, some spot rust at the back of the cab, spot bubbles around the windshield, and the bottom of the rear fenders.
The following was installed in 2005 as part of the autobody work: New floor, cab corners, rockers, rear slider, front windshield, bed wood, stainless steel bed trim, tailgate, grill, front part of bed, steps, new carpet, reupholstered bench seat as well as a lot of trim.
The Tonneau Cover was install in 2008. Tire are a Mickey Thompson Baja Radials MTX 31 x 11.50 R15LT mounted on the original alloy rims and was purchased and installed 11/2010 at 280123 miles.
The Kicker shocks and the rest of the shocks at Rancho 5000's and were installed in 2000.
Passed the Ma. State inspection in 12/2012. Recent work in 2012, new battery, rear differential cover, transmission filter, starter. Work in 2013, anitfreeze flush, oil change, transfer case gasket, new front brakes, rear brakes readjusted, replaced sensor for the oil pressure gauge Needs the following, some body work, horn needs to be adjusted (spring in steering wheel), Cruise control was disconnected in 1996, passenger side window motor.
Truck needs to be driven, I currently use it to run local errands to the town transfer station. I have only towed once with the truck and that was to pick up a log splitter.
Engine was purchased as a crate engine, rated at 350/ 310 hp @5000 rpm and 370 ft lbs of torque @ 3400 rpm. Please no phone calls before 2PM EST. I commute to Needham daily, so I am not always in a position to answer the phone. if your looking for specific photos please ask. 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible gives us a couple of looks
Sat, 02 Mar 2013Put away your pixel paintbrushes, kids. Pack up your Photoshop. This is the real-deal 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in its first official images. The droptop Chevrolet will roll into the bright lights of the Palexpo exhibition at next week's Geneva Motor Show, a four-wheeled statement of intent that General Motors is serious about taking its Corvette franchise global.
Chevy isn't providing anything in the way of further details with these two shots, but we've learned at least a couple of things about the car shown here. First off, the example seen in these images is fitted with the optional Z51 Performance Package - something that isn't immediately evident because there's no sign of the coupe model's prominent ductwork on its rear haunches. In order to accommodate the power folding hard tonneau cover, the vents that feed the transmission and differential coolers have been relocated to the underside of the car. The dark paint color on this example also does a good job of muting the contrasting black front fender vents and hood opening - Z51-spec design details that have proven to be somewhat controversial.
One other thing to note: These two shots also display the Stingray wearing different alloy wheels than the split five-spoke design shown at the hardtop's Detroit Auto Show unveiling in January. The simpler, thin five-spoke wheels should do a good job of showing off the Z51's upgraded brakes, and they'll be optional on the coupe as well.
GM execs fired over fraudulent India emissions testing
Mon, 29 Jul 2013General Motors hadn't had a recall in India since 1995. That changed when it was discovered that certain employees were playing tricks with local emissions testing in order to ensure passing grades for engines. More than ten GM Powertrain employees in India and the US have been let go over the ensuing emissions flap, including Sam Winegarden, VP of global engine engineering, a man who has been with the company since 1969, leading development of some marquee powerplants.
According to Automotive News, an internal investigation revealed that employees "violated testing procedures," sometimes swapping specially prepared low-emissions engines during testing regimes for the Chevrolet Tavera SUV equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines. Employees were also manipulating weights in order to get vehicles placed into different emissions categories. The discovery has led to GM recall the 114,000 Taveras produced over an eight-year period and halting their production and sale.
The Economic Times of India reports that the issue is due to "a faulty component." GM has developed a solution to the issue, and once it is validated in testing and approved by the Indian authorities, the recalled vehicles will be fixed at dealers and production will resume.
More Corvette Stingray Factoids: Vanishing panel gaps and 26-mpg LT1
Thu, 28 Feb 2013During January's Detroit Auto Show, we managed a longer than expected wandering tag-team interview with C7 Corvette chief engineering exec Tadge Juechter (pictured above), and LT1 engine boss Jordan Lee (pictured below). They are, quite honestly, two of the very nicest bigshot lads to ever walk the engineering corridors of an American manufacturer. Both are enthralled by what they're doing for a day job. So are we.
We've followed the pre-sale anticipation for the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray like an Oreck vacuum yanking every speck of dirt from a well-trampled carpet. Everything is reportable and contains a grain of further knowledge about this dramatically important and cheered-for car, as it continues to be pressured into representing all that is superior about the American dream. The Corvette wears one heavy cloak.
So, most of what was talked about has been expertly reported already right here on Autoblog. But, looking through our notes again, both Jeuchter and Lee added facts to the buzzing mix.
