Custom 1962 1/2 Ton Chevy Shortbed Stepside Truck on 2040-cars
Caldwell, Idaho, United States
Started Frame-Off Restoration all pieces have been blasted treated or patched up. This is my unique 62' Truck I've been working on it the past 5 years. I love this truck, but with my growing family, I'd like to re-invest into something that can fit my wife and 3 boys. Gutters removed and smoothed out. Custom Tailgate discreet latches, Tear drop rear brake lights installed on fenders. capped off holes to the bed rails. Lowered with torsion bars. Awesome '62 Truck true big back window truck. The 350 has been rebuilt bored .30 over and all engine parts are new except for the intake and heads. Intake is a single plane eldebrock torker and heads are from a late 60's corvette double camel humps. The inner fenders have been upgraded to new Chrome inner fenders that accent the engine beautifully. These trucks have gutters, but I've removed mine to have a smooth custom look and it looks sharp. hood seams have been welded and smoothed out to appear like the hood was one piece. World Class 5 speed transmission from IROC Z28 Camaro. All paint is from House of Colors. Mixed Tangerine orange with a slick brown. Nice bright orange in the sun, outstanding orange/brown in the shade. This is still in project mode and requires some small attention. Bed area not complete, small over spray on driver door (Minor), I drive this truck so there are signs of use, Carpet, minor wiring, and transmission pedal is stiff, everything very fixable. I have to reduce the size of some photos before I can post a couple others, but I'll try and load a couple more later. I can send more upon request too. They will just be larger files. Truck will include a front suspension disc brakes setup from a 1979 C10 1/2 ton truck. These are essentially universal so if you want disc brakes you can choose to swap. |

Mary Barra reportedly confirms GM's electric pickup truck plans
Tue, Apr 30 2019According to Motor Authority, CEO Mary Barra confirmed General Motors' intentions to build an electric pickup truck this week. Whether or not it would be an all-new vehicle is unknown. The news comes not even a week after Ford announced a $500 million investment in electric-vehicle startup Rivian. First, electric powertrains were integrated into cars. Then came the crossovers and the SUVs. Naturally, then, the next wave will be pickup trucks. Ford is set to produce an electric F-150, Rivian has the R1T, and now General Motors has reportedly confirmed its plans to introduce a competitor into the field. The article says the topic was brought up in a recent investor call as part of a brief overview of the automaker's electrification strategy. That's where the details end, however, as there is no indication of a timeline, what GM brand would carry the truck, or whether it would be an entirely new product or an adaptation of a current model. The latter seems most likely, which points to the Chevrolet Silverado or the GMC Sierra as possibilities. Chevrolet has been GM's electrification leader this decade with the Bolt and Volt, so an electric Silverado would align well with that messaging and branding. However, an electric pickup would likely be a pricier premium product, which could align it better with GMC. Autoblog has reached out to GM for comment and will update this space when we get a response. Chevy SS prototype spotted wearing Pontiac G8 clothes
Tue, 28 Aug 2012
Do not adjust your computer screen, you are not seeing the rebirth of the Pontiac brand. General Motors has chosen to use a G8 to disguise a test mule for the latest prototype of the forthcoming Chevrolet SS. The G8 was closely related to the Holden Commodore and Vauxhall VXR, the platform upon which the new Chevrolet performance model will be based. It should come as little surprise, then, that GM has opted to use the cladding from the former G8.
Thought the front clip of this mule is pure Pontiac, note the vents immediately behind the front wheel. That is a distinctive design hallmark of the Vauxhall VXR. Also note that this vehicle is right-hand drive, as the Holden and its Chevy counterpart will be very closely related. That likely includes potential drivetrains. The spy photos of this mule also reveal very wide rear tires, and rear wheels that do not match the fronts.
Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction
Sun, 17 Feb 2013It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.
