1987 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 4x4 Pickup on 2040-cars
Sparta, Tennessee, United States
1987 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 4x4 Pickup. Original truck with only 47k actual miles. Original 350 fuel injected motor with automatic overdrive transmission. Factory A/C that has been converted over to R134 with new compressor and lines (VERY COLD). Everything works as it should and nothing has been modified except the exhaust is not original. Even the factory AM/FM radio is still present. Factory manuals included and the truck still has the original dealer license tag on the front bumper where the truck was first purchased.
Here is the story I was told about the truck when I purchased the truck from the second owners daughter. The truck was originally purchased in Pikeville, TN from a Chevrolet Dealer in 87 brand new. The owner purchased the truck for himself as a retirement gift to himself. He was only able to enjoy the truck for around 3 years when he passed away in which the owners wife placed the truck in a barn where it was mainly kept until the second owner bought the truck in 2005. The truck had some work done to get it back on the road (brakes and fuel system). It was also clear coated over the original paint to protect it. The camper top has been on the truck since new I was told. I bought the truck from the second owners daughter who placed the truck for sale because her parents were older and her mother was having trouble getting in and out of the truck due to the height. I bought the truck and repaired some minor rust that was behind the rear wheels on the bedside. The old was cut out and new metal installed and then the bedsides were repainted and blended with the original paint code. You can not tell a difference where the repairs were, the paint was blended perfect. I also installed new shocks from LMC Truck Parts. The truck runs and drives just as you would expect from a vehicle with only 47k miles on it. AC is very cold and everything works on the truck. The tires are matching and in very nice shape with plenty of tread. The bed on the truck is in great shape due to the camper top being on it since new and the bed mat. The only things worth mentioning on the truck is there is some slight hail dings on the hood and the roof. In the sun this is hard to see and it was difficult to even show up in the photos. I didn't notice it myself until I brought the truck home after buying. The truck will puff out smoke when it is first started after sitting, but it does not smoke any other time. I believe this is from where the truck sat for so long from 1990 to 2005 and the valve seals let a little oil by. Again, this is only when the truck first fires up after sitting. I have not noticed any oil usage and no smoke any other time. There is some surface rust on the drivers side rocker, but only surface rust. I have some leftover red paint in the correct color code if the new owner wanted to get this repainted. There is also some rust on the inner fenders as seen in the pictures. Also, there is a slight separation on the drivers seat upholstery. This may be something that can be repaired. These are the only issues with the truck. The drivetrain is clean underneath and the truck is a pleasure to drive. The paint is in beautiful condition and other than some small dings from normal use there is nothing to detract from the trucks looks. There is an original smog pump and hoses on the truck, but the pump does not have the belt attached to it. I am not sure if it works if it were hooked up. The truck runs perfect without it, but I wanted to let it be mentioned if the next owner has to have it hooked up. They do not makes trucks like this anymore and this is less expensive than buying a new one. |

2016 Chevy Volt powertrain technical details
Wed, Feb 11 2015The last time General Motors launched a Chevy Volt, it was operating without really knowing how people would use the plug-in hybrid. Sure, it had experience with the EV1, but the Volt was a new kind of car, and you can see in the archives just how much time GM spent explaining this fresh, new powertrain to potential customers. Then, once the vehicle was released, the company collected voluntary data from a large number of owners to learn about their driving and charging habits. The company also asked them what they wanted most in the new version. There's got to be an algorithm buried somewhere in GM headquarters that was used to take all of the numbers GM collected and spat out the headline figures for the 2016 Volt: 50 miles of EV range and 41 miles per gallon. Another important number – price – is something GM isn't talking about yet (expect it in April or May), but the company is sharing some powertrain details about the upcoming car. At a preview lunch in Detroit last week for the SAE 2015 Hybrid & Electric Vehicles Technologies Symposium that's happening now in California, GM engineers Peter Savagian (who is presenting a paper on the new inverter used in the updated Volt) and Tim Grewe (talking about the entire second-generation powertrain) sat down with AutoblogGreen to tell us about the Volt's all-new propulsion system: The overall gist is that the new Voltec 5ET50 drive unit is lighter, smaller and more powerful thanks to a redesigned two-motor traction drive. As previously reported, the new engine is a 1.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder that offers 101-horsepower (at 5,600 RPM). Grewe said it's "great for range extension." The electric motor side of the powertrain offers 149 motoring horsepower from a two-motor, continuously variable transaxle. Initially, the new engine will be made in Mexico. GM will move production to Flint, MI during the first year it makes the 2016 Volt. The battery is slightly bigger in the new Volt – 18.4 kWh compared to 16.5 in the current-gen – and will have less range variation in the cold. GM is also using more of the overall capacity in the pack in the 2016 Volt than in previous versions, but is not saying how much more. GM is not ready to publish acceleration times just yet, but the 2016 Volt has improved numbers, especially when going from 30-60 miles per hour. Most everything on the new powertrain has become more efficient compared to the first-gen Volt.
2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon all spied with production lights
Fri, Mar 22 2019One of our spy photographers just caught a smattering of full-size GM SUVs out testing, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon. Previous spy photos of the next-generation of these big GM SUVs have revealed that GM is going with an independent rear suspension design, and these shots confirm the news once again with our best look at the hardware yet. Check them out from the rear, lined up like ducks in a row to see the beefy control arms down there. This will undoubtedly give the big SUVs a more compliant ride, and should bring it back into touch with the refinement from the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. The new bits we get to see with these shots are production headlights and taillights that are shaping up to look pretty neat. Most distinguishable are the GMC Yukon's LED DRLs. These look a lot like the C-shaped LEDs outlining the headlights on the Sierra, but they have an extra LED strip on top of the C. The parts of the taillights that we can see look significantly different than that found on the Sierra, showing GM is planning on having a great deal of differentiation there. We can sort of see through the mesh covering the grille to what appears to be a classic horizontal bar style front opening. Chevy is predictably dialing the crazy LED strip design back for the Tahoe and Suburban. The parts that are lit up look a whole lot like the headlight fixtures on the 2019 Silverado. That truck uses a stack of lights with the actual headlights separated from the DRLs. We can see the same thing going on here, with the headlight up top and curved LED DRL strip sitting below. It's tough to say if the designs are exactly alike, but we expect to see an extremely Silverado-esque look once all the camouflage comes off. Chevrolet's taillight design differs from its donor truck like the GMC, showing off a curved, vertical series of LEDs out back. Once production lights start popping up like this, we know the vehicle is moving closer to its end game. A reveal sometime later this year could be in the cards for GM's next batch of full-size SUVs. It certainly needs them quick, as Ford rockets ahead with increased Expedition production announced earlier this week.
