1972 Chevy originally from Arizona. Started with a rust-free frame and underbody. Was taken right down to the frame for restoration (last photo). More than $30,000 invested. Reserve is MUCH lower.

All body work was professionally done and is impeccable. Cab was removed and lined with bedliner both inside and underneath before painting. All body parts were removed, sandblasted, professionally restored (no bondo), primed and painted. The color is flat charcoal metallic. It actually shines in the sun (see the last pictures). Bumpers and grill are flat black.

A partial list of all of the new items that went into the restore – new inner fenders, new doors, new rockers all welded in place, new OEM vintage tailgate ($600), new tilt steering column from IDIDIT, new steering wheel, all new wiring from Painless – nearly all of it running through split loom conduit, new LED lights all around, gauge cluster was restored, new Lokar automatic shifter, new wheels, brand new GoodYear Duratrac 33" tires, new bed wood and rails, all new gaskets and seals in doors and windows, new door exterior door handles and locks, new ignition, new pedals, new tailgate chains, new interior vents, new ductwork, new armrests, new carpet, new Flowmaster true dual exhaust, new Skyjacker 4" lift and shocks, new braided steering lines, new brake lines, power leather seats from a modern GTO (yes, they work), new gas tank, new sending unit, new battery, new radiator core support, new billet aluminum grill, new grill/headlight surround, new front bumper. All bolts were removed and replaced with either Grade VIII or 304 Stainless when possible. Nearly $400 spent in bolts alone. I'm sure there is more...

The engine is a top-end rebuilt 350 with an aggressive cam. The Holley 650 carburetor and intake manifold are brand new, new valve covers, new starter, new heater core. T350 transmission was professionally rebuilt with a 1800-2200 RPM stall torque converter. Original NP205 transfer case with working four wheel drive.

This truck is 98% done. Here is what is not completed. One of the brand new window gaskets in the passenger door got caught and ripped. A set of new ones is included - you only need one. Passenger door panel is not installed (to repair the gasket). The shift boots are not screwed down. Some body panels could use some professional adjusting to line up a little better. The rear view mirror is not hung. The glove box door latch is not lining up right and is not installed. The engine could still use some tuning. It runs strong, but is very cold-blooded. There is a transmission leak that I'm pretty sure is coming from the speedometer cable. I did not hook up a washer fluid reservoir, the pump is in place with new lines. Lastly, something is taking a light draw on the battery and it causes the battery to die after 3-4 days if not run or charged. I believe it's an amp (new) installed to run an iPod through a customer speaker enclosure/center console I built.

Everything works on this truck as it should. I have many vintage 4x4s and this one is going to make room. If you have any questions I am available for calls (e-mail for the number) and the truck can be driven and seen in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. Can deliver within 250 miles of Three Lakes, Wisconsin. This would include both the Minneapolis and Milwaukee areas. Bid with confidence. Clear Wisconsin title in hand.

EcoCar2 is on the hunt for a better, cleaner Chevy Malibu [w/video]

Thu, Jun 12 2014

The students spent three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. Not far from the building where General Motors once invented the Chevy Volt, a dozen or so college students are standing on the blacktop alongside a test track, watching a professional driver push the limits of a plug-in hybrid car they've built that's far more radical. These students, from Colorado State University, have spent the past three years transforming an ordinary Chevy Malibu into a revolutionary vehicle. At first glance, it still looks like a regular sedan. But under the hood, they've installed a hybrid powertrain that contains both hydrogen and electric power sources. Even by the standards of the Department of Energy competition they're participating in, it's an outlier. That's exactly what they had in mind. "We didn't want to come here and tell them how to build a better Volt," said Tom Bradley, faculty adviser for the Colorado State team. "They already know how to do that. We can tell them how to think about these possibilities in a whole new way." After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The Colorado State team was one of 15 that came to GM's Milford Proving Grounds last week for the final stretch of the EcoCar2 competition, which challenges regular college students who have no automotive experience to do nothing less than reinvent the American car. The teams have come from across North America, and include schools like Ohio State and Virginia Tech that have a long history of participating in similar competitions, and schools like the University of Washington and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University that are here for the first time. After three years of work, it all comes down to this. The teams have operated 24 hours a day for almost two weeks here at the Proving Grounds, running a gamut of tests that include a 310-point safety inspection, emissions and energy-consumption tests and road tests, in which professional GM drivers ensure they're road worthy. The winning team will be announced tonight in Washington D.C. Revolutionary cars, ordinary package While other green-car competitions encourage extreme designs, this one comes with a somewhat constraining twist: Yes, students must improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, but in the end, they still have to have a car that would appeal to mainstream customers. In practical terms, that means they must keep conveniences like air conditioning and trunk space.

GM diesel pickups first to undergo extra EPA, CARB testing

Tue, Sep 29 2015

The effects of Volkswagen's long-running diesel emissions evasion are starting to spill over to other automakers, but General Motors is taking things in stride. The 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax in the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon is the first engine to get extra scrutiny by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, Automotive News reports. Rather than just the usual in-lab test, it's also being checked on the road. However, the extra evaluation shouldn't have any impact on when the trucks with his mill hit dealers later this fall. "We're in our final stages of the EPA certification, and our launch is on track," Chevy spokesperson Otie McKinley tells Autoblog. The four-cylinder diesel in the trucks makes 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the automaker is touting low NOx production. In the announcement for the Colorado's specs, the company calls it "the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors." The tech includes exhaust gas recirculation to lower combustion temperatures and improve emissions. There's also a urea tank like on the bigger diesels for full-size trucks, and it gets refilled in time with oil changes. An indication on the instrument panel lets drivers know when that's needed, too. Even with the more demanding testing, the company doesn't seem too worried about the four-cylinder passing. "Part of our development process is on-road and off-road [laboratory] testing," Scott Yackley, Chevy Trucks assistant chief engineer, said to Automotive News. In the wake of the VW scandal, the EPA has pledged more rigorous testing. Before, on-road emissions evaluations were largely limited to heavy-duty vehicles, but the agency has decided to apply the checks more often to other models. There's also now greater cooperation with Canadian authorities.

Mysterious white powder discovered at GM Orion Assembly

Fri, Sep 2 2016

Workers at General Motors Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township, MI uncovered a mysterious white powder in two different parts of the factory earlier this week, raising concerns about worker safety. "We can confirm that an unknown substance (white powder) was found on the floor outside of Gate 6 at Orion Assembly on Monday, August 29. On Tuesday, August 30, we had a second report of a bottle containing a similar substance found inside the plant," GM spokesperson Dayna Hart told The Oakland Press via email. GM stressed that incident didn't disrupt operations at the plant, and that the company was taking steps to ensure the safety of the sprawling factory's workers. That did include, an anonymous worker told The Oakland Press, closing off parts of the factory for two full days, as drug-sniffing dogs and crews in haz-mat suits descended on the area. "A sample of the substance has been sent to a laboratory for identification and results are expected later this week," Hart said. "All findings and actions have been shared with our employees." Orion Assembly currently builds the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, and will eventually be responsible for production of the new, all-electric Chevy Bolt early next year. Related Video:
