Up for auction today is the perfect start to the rat rod / shop truck you've always wanted! this is a 1971 Chevrolet 1/2 ton (C10) long bed with 85k original miles and just the right amount of sunfade, bumps, and bruises to make it cool! This is a decent running original 350/th350 truck that's been my daily driver/ work truck for a while now, but due to an upcoming move I'm replacing it with a smaller more fuel efficient S10. mechanically this is a relatively sound truck, for reliability in the past six months i tuned it up (plugs, wires, cap, and rotor) and also installed a pertronix igniter II points conversion kit. when I first purchased the truck it had a slight bit of carb hesitation so I've swapped it with a well tuned replacement. the truck is going to need a u joint replaced in the near future as I've started to notice a little bit of squeak when backing up and the typical u-joint "clank" noise, I've not priced the u joints for this truck but typically your talking $10-20 plus an hour or so of labor. this truck is relatively solid underneath, it's eventually going to need new cab mount bushings (starting to dry rot and get mushy resulting in a sagging cab in the back), but has a real nice set of rear trailing arms (a typical rot point for the 67-72's.) Body wise make no mistakes this IS NOT a rust free Texas or Arizona truck, it does suffer from some of the typical 67-72 rot points, BUT for a local north eastern truck all it's life it is a fair bit more solid than ALOT of others I've looked at. it's going to need the typical cab corners and rockers (new full rockers will come with the truck!), the door bottom skins are solid but the bottoms are starting to get flakey. the bedsides are beautiful and 90 % of the floor is rust free, but it does have the typical half dollar sized holes in the rear floor near the stake pockets, and the one inch by six inch holes running parallel with the rear wheel wells... a rubber mat hides all of this! the tailgate when I purchased the truck was bowed beyond repair so I've replaced it with a used tailgate that will need some bottom work. it's got a real nice solid front clip, a nice grill, a driver quality surround, a solid firewall, cowl, and radiator support, and for the most part the floors are decent. it's has had some patch work where the kick panels meet the floor, the previous owner has just pop riveted some metal in place, it's not the best looking job, but it's functional. it's got relatively decent glass with the exception of the windshield that's starting to milk around the lower right edge. it's starting to suffer from the typical 67-72 rust around the rain gutter on the passenger side, but is still well salvageable without a much effort if it's addressed before it gets bad. the tires are fair for summer use but my plan was to buy new before the first snow hit. the interior leaves a bit to be desired, but I own a custom automotive upholstery shop... so I'm sure something can be negotiated with the winning bidder at auctions end, it's just kind of like what they say about the cobblers shoes, I spend all day fixing everyone else's so I've just never got around to fixing my own truck seat!. The truck has a good clear WV title in my name. this would make a great starting place for someone looking for a restoration project, it's a relatively unmolested original truck that still retains all it's original main components and sheet metal (minus the tailgate which came from another truck), it would be a great work truck for someone like me who loves to beat around in an old truck that feels like a truck ( you just cant beat the look and feel of an old Chevy for a daily driver!), or for someone looking for a 67-72 with that perfect shop truck look you shoot it with a mat clear to keep it intact, ditch the west coast mirrors, slam it to the ground over a set of large diameter coys and hands down you've got the coolest truck on the block!
if you have any questions please, please, please don't just assume, just ask! you can reach me via email or give me a call (304) 709-3997, ask for Phillip
now for the legal fine print to protect you and I; vehicle sold as is where is, buyer responsible for shipping (but I'll accommodate your shipper as best as I can) I've got a large parking lot at my shop (big enough semi's turn in it) just a few miles off I-79 in Clarksburg, Wv. A $500 non refundable deposit via paypal due within 48 hours of auctions end unless other arrangements are made prior to auctions end. I reserve the right to end the auction early if it has not yet met the reserve price ($1500), as vehicle is also for sale locally. vehicle needs to be paid for in full and picked up within 7 days of auctions end (unless other arrangements are made prior to auctions end, keep in mind I'm easy to get along with, so I'm sure if need be we can work something out!) no warranty is expressed or implied, it may run great for years or it may die it's first time out (doubtful, but it's an old used truck, you just never know) and I highly encourage anyone to come take a look and test drive it, I've bought two vehicles on ebay myself so I understand how much faith your putting in the words and a few pictures on a screen! Like I said, if you have any questions, just ask! Happy bidding!

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015
Tue, Feb 11 2014Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
2014 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra full configurators truck in
Sat, 15 Jun 2013You can now put prices to your wildest option-sheet dreams of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. A microsite for the full-size pickup truck twins has been up since January, and now the full-blown configurator is live and ready to take your virtual orders. The only two chassis configurations available at the moment are the Crew Cab with either a short or standard bed - Regular and Double Cab versions will come later. In Silverado flavors that will run you $32,710 for the short box, $33,010 for the standard box, while the Sierra adds a $1,500 premium to both of those prices, and destination and handling for both models adds another $995.
Since these are American pickups the list of modifications is lengthy, but we added $11,450 in just two steps by starting with the Silverado Crew Cab and standard bed, then checking four-wheel drive and the LTZ Z71 package. Our final truck, resplendent in Brownstone Metallic paint, heated and cooled Cocoa/Dune perforated leather seating and tasty details like chrome recovery hooks, and engine block heater and LED cargo box lighting, rang up $57,285 at the candy store.
They'll be on dealer lots sometime this summer, so now's a good time to start practicing your box-checking.
General Motors Recall List
Wed, Oct 22 2014It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. We used the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall list to compile a snapshot of all the GM vehicles recalled in the last two months. NHTSA also provides a search engine that allows owners to search for recalls on their vehicle. An automotive company must do everything in their power to notify its customers when a recall is issued on a vehicle. If you own any of the following vehicles and you have questions regarding your car, you can contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, Buick at 1-800-521-7300 and Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. Or check out General Motor's recall site. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov. Here's a brief summery of the other vehicles currently under recall: July 26 – 414,333 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V447000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. Problem: In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position. Consequence: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Solution: Dealers will replace the height adjuster shoulder bolts, free of charge. July 14 – 16,939 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V341000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured October 18, 2010, to June 2, 2011. Problem: In the affected vehicles, vibrations from the drive shaft may cause the vehicle's roll over sensor to command the roof rail air bags to deploy. Consequence: If the roof rail air bags deploy unexpectedly, there is an increased risk of crash and injury to the occupants.
