1970 Tx Truck, Partially Restored, Tons Of Upgrades, Rewired By Hand on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
I bought this 1970 Chevy Custom C-10 Longbed Pickup Truck with the intent of restoring it back to it's former glory. I got about 80% of the way there on the mechanical side to making it a daily driver. I took it on a 40 mile highway drive without any issues. Mechanically, this thing was completely re-wired by hand, by a mechanic who specializes in rebuilding these trucks. All repairs, restorations and other mechanical work was done by certified mechanics. I did not attempt anything myself, for fear of destroying it. I shipped it up from Texas earlier this year and it has been garaged ever since. It is a looker in it's current state and I was told by many who worked on this truck that if I got this thing looking like it should, it would win many a competition. I am only selling this now because I left my job to start something new and as a result, I have to get rid of all my passion projects and start trimming down since I can no longer afford to do the restoration. Every part I ordered was either period appropriate (i.e. I replaced parts with the very same ones present in the 1970 model) with the exception of the transmission, which I did upgrade and the gear shifter, which I think is pretty sweet. Headlights and wipers both work. Needs a gas pedal, but the truck drives fine without it. Where I could, I have saved the original parts and put them in the bed - along with all the books and paperwork I had on it. That will all come to you - except for the hose. The hose stays. Don't ask for the hose. As for where the car is presently, it got through that 40 mile drive like a champ, but since then, I have been unable to start it. The truck may be out of gas and the battery is definitely needs to be jumped (it's a new one, as told to me by the guys who worked on it). I haven't touched this in a few months, and because I need the garage space for the winter, and more importantly, the loot, I turn over the rest of the rebuild to you. In June, my girlfriend had a top of the line Alpine stereo installed in the truck for me, which works wonderfully and sounds amazing. Nothing was repurposed to make it fit in the original speaker settings. As for aesthetics, I think the photos do tell that story quite well. It has some sun damage and can use a total paint job. There is some rust appearing on the body, but nothing has spread as long as I've had it, so it all appears to be localized and controlled. There are a few dents and dings in the body. However, based on the amount of people I have talked to about restoring the truck to it's former glory, folks were lining up to take a shot at this. It's that sweet! I have way more than 24 photos of this truck too, so if you need more, let me know what you want and I'll try to get it for you. I'm happy to answer any questions and provide any additional information you may need if what I have listed here is not sufficient. I am not a mechanic, nor do I have any experience rebuilding trucks, so in the case of particulars, I will try to get as much information from my mechanic as I can to provide you with the most accurate and helpful information. If I'm able to get my BIN price, I will ship this anywhere in the 48 states for free (up to $1000) - so please, don't try and get crazy with the shipping options. Thanks for looking! Here are the updates I have had put in here (parts wise):
Here are some additional parts I ordered from Jegs for the truck, with the link so you can get more information on the parts. Lokar#625-ATS6350AMAdjustable Transmount ShifterLokar#625-70-HRBHot Rod Shifter Boot and Ring SetHolley#510-0-80450600cfm Street-Legal Carburetor |

Next-gen GMC Sierra spied with diesel power
Tue, Sep 5 2017The next generation of GM trucks is arriving soon, and we're expecting a huge leap forward over the current lineup. The Chevy Silverado and the GMC SIerra sell extremely well, but haven't done much to move the segment forward in a long time. The Ford F-150 has an all-aluminum body and turbocharged V6 power. The Ram 1500 gained a diesel and coil spring suspension. These spy shots show that diesel may be in the cards for GM. Some quick shots and copious use of flash show what is most likely a tank for diesel exhaust fluid and a diesel particulate filter, both necessary equipment for any modern diesel. It's unclear what form factor that engine will come in, though GM has a number of engines to choose from, including the 2.8-liter inline four that's found in the Colorado and Canyon, though that may be a little light duty for the Silverado and Sierra. Other rumors surrounding the trucks suggest a move to an aluminum cab while retaining a steel bed. That seems like a reasonable move for GM, even if the company was attempting to shame Ford for its move to aluminum a few years ago. Look for more news as early as the Detroit Auto Show in January. Weekly Recap: Geneva's splendor reflects growing demand for ultra-luxury cars
Sat, Mar 7 2015Geneva is one of the most glittering auto shows in the world, but the list of high-powered and bespoke luxury cars was decadent this year even by the rich standards of the Swiss exhibition. It's great for enthusiasts to revel in the flame-throwing Aston Martin Vulcan, the racing-inspired elegance of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept and the insane performance of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but there's a reason for all of this opulence: the luxury market is big business. And it's growing. IHS Automotive forecasts that so-called ultra-premium sales will nearly triple this decade from 123,000 to 353,000 units around the world. The estimate includes brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, but doesn't count BMW, Mercedes and Audi, which offer less expensive models in addition to their high-end flagships. Though IHS includes Porsche and its relatively large volume in the study, the ultra-premium segment is still set grow at about the same rate, even without the German automaker's figures. So what is propelling all of this growth in the most expensive segment of the auto industry? Put simply, there's more rich people. IHS Automotive principal analyst Tim Urquhart pointed to economic expansion in China, market recovery in the United States and a surge in the lucrative technology sector as contributing factors. This dovetails with a research report by UK-based Oxfam, an international relief organization, which found the world's richest one-percent owned 48 percent of global wealth in 2014, and it's expected to increase to more than 50 percent by 2016. View 17 Photos Carmakers are moving quickly to capitalize with new products, expanding their portfolios with low-volume speedsters like the 800-hp V12 Vulcan at Geneva, and plans to enter new segments, like Rolls-Royce's strategy to make an SUV. "Ultra-premium carmakers are looking to explore ways of growing their product offerings, and thus their bottom lines, in this most potentially profitable of segments," Urquhart wrote in a report on the Geneva show. In a nutshell, there are more choices for people with more money. It's a good time to have expensive taste. Other News & Notes 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata production launches It won't be long now. 2016 Green Truck of the Year, Commercial Green Car of the Year finalists
Sat, Oct 24 2015Not only are commercial-grade haulers getting more green love lately, they're getting more different kinds of green love. The 2016 Green Truck of the Year, the second time the award has been handed out, is being decided by judges from Green Car Journal and the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show. This year the award is joined by the new 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year, which crowns one of the little vans increasingly used by small business as cargo and delivery vehicles. The Green Truck of the Year finalists are the Chevrolet Colorado Duramax (pictured), Ford F-150, GMC Canyon Duramax, Nissan Titan XD, and Toyota Tacoma. The first three of those were on last year's list, but since they are completely new or upgraded for 2016 - Ford with its all-aluminum body, the General Motors twins with the new diesel Duramax engine - they qualify for entry again. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel won last year. The Commercial Green Car finalists are the Chevrolet City Express, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City. You can read more details in the presser below, and the awards will be announced in San Antonio sometime during the show from November 19-22. San Antonio Auto & Truck Show Announces 2016 Green Truck of the Year and Commercial Green Car of the Year Finalists SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Car Journal and the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show have announced finalists for the 2016 Green Truck of the Year™ and 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year™ awards. Vying for the all-new 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year™ award are the Chevrolet City Express, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City. "Over the past few decades, new car models have benefitted from design and technology improvements that have brought higher fuel efficiency and greater levels of environmental compatibility," said Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com Editor and Publisher Ron Cogan. "With models like these ten deserving finalists, we're witnessing the pickup and light commercial vehicle field enjoying the same attention." The new Commercial Green Car of the Year™ award is part of an expanded awards program presented at this year's 2015 San Antonio Auto & Truck Show.
