Condition: I bought this truck 2 years ago with intent to fully restore while using. Previous owner did the same thing so the truck has had excellent maintenance and upkeep. Maintenance since 2008: New muffler, new tailpipe, new rear transmission seal, new (both) front brake hoses, new (both) front wheel brakes, new upper and lower ball joints, new front coil springs, new front and rear KYB shocks, 4 wheel alignment, 4 new Dayton Timberline tires (31 by 10.5 LT15), new brake master cylinder, new heavy duty radiator, new starter, new clutch kit/ring gear, new pressure plate and throw out bearing, resurfaced flywheel, replaced rear gear oil, new drive shaft u-joints and yoke, balanced drive shaft, factory seat recovered (factory beige), new plugs/points/condenser, set dwell and timing, adjusted carburator, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new valve cover, new valve cover gasket, replaced all valve stem seals, new lifter cover gasket, new driver's door window regulator, new distributor gasket, new oil pan gasket, new front and rear crankshaft seals, new engine mounts, new oil pressure switch, new breather element, new heavy duty battery (10/27/11). The truck is in excellent mechanical condition and is driven locally about once per month. It's always garaged and never driven in the elements. It has factory paint with some spray touchup on left side and white cab top (not immediately noticeable). No damage history. All factory chrome. It has minor surface rust in the bed and top rails of bed. Passenger side rocker panel (under door) has some paint bubling and one rust hole 1cm dia. Serious restorer will want to replace the entire rocker panel. All glass is good (no cracks), factory windshield has some fogging around left/lower/right periphery. Horn does not work. When I back out of my garage there are usually 0-4 dime size drops of dried fluid (oil?) on the floor but otherwise no oil leakage/usage. On full cold heater still puts out a little heat. Passenger side window regulator works but is stiff and could use replacing. All lights, gages, clusters, vents, wipers, etc work just fine. I've tried to list here everything that should be considered, and if I've not mentioned it, then it works. It also has a factory heavy duty rear bumper with a lockable spare tire jackscrew for raising/lowering. I'm including the aluminum bed tool box. It has 66,137 original miles.

History: Based on previous owner's info, I believe I'm the 5th or 6th owner. I bought it from a private seller in Chattanooga, TN  May 2012 and drove it home 4 hours on I-40 at 65-70 mph (13 mpg). He bought it from a friend site unseen and had it shipped to TN from Wyoming or Idaho in 2008. It was originally sold by Scott Chevrolet, Oklahoma City, OK on 8/25/1969. I have the original New Vehicle Warranty and Owner Protection Plan card and dealer plate imprint. I have the original 1969 Owner's Manual that came with the truck (excellent condition), along with the plastic sleeve it came in. I also have all maintenance records for maintenance I've listed. Great truck. Pleasure to drive.

Features: It does not have a radio...never did. Manual steering, No a/c. It comes with a cab-mounted fire extinguisher, spare tire, hydraulic bottle jack, and the pictured aluminum bed tool box.

Shipping: Buyer responsible for and to pay all shipping costs.

GM tells owners not to use SUV wipers due to fire risk

Sun, Oct 11 2015

General Motors is recalling 31,685 examples of the 2016 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia because a short circuit in the windshield wiper motor can potentially lead to a fire. Due to the danger, the company is asking owners not to use the wipers until the problem is fixed, according to The Detroit Free Press citing the Associated Press. A manufacturing defect in the wiper motor cover means that the electrical terminals can come into contact and cause a short. The part could "melt, smoke, or catch fire," according to a statement from GM. The company will get them fixed immediately, and dealers will replace the cover. If there's bad weather at the time the owner specifies to get the recall work completed, the automaker will come pick up the crossovers. Depending on parts availability, the automaker will supply a rental car for customers, as well. The issue was discovered at the factory. According to the company's statement, only 6,405 actually made it to customers, and they were notified immediately by overnight letter. The rest were in dealer stock. The affected crossovers carry build dates between August 18, 2015 and September 24, 2015. Of those, there are 29,295 in the US and 1,073 in Canada. GM Statement: General Motors has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it will recall approximately 29,295 2016 model year Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia SUVs in the U.S. because the front windshield wiper motor may overheat when in use because of a manufacturing defect. In some cases, the front windshield wiper motor cover may melt, smoke or catch fire. The approximately 6,405 customers who have taken delivery of these vehicles were notified by overnight letter and are urged to contact a GM dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service appointment. These customers should not use the front windshield wipers until they have been repaired. If weather conditions prevent driving the vehicle without using the windshield wipers, GM will arrange to pick up the vehicle for servicing. If repair parts are unavailable, GM will provide a rental car at no cost until parts become available. The total population, including Canada, Mexico and exports, is approximately 31,685. About 25,280 of these vehicles are in dealer stock and will not be sold until repairs are made.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

Looking back on our favorite cars of Mad Men

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The second half of the seventh and final season of Mad Men debuted this week, set to cap a run of public and critical acclaim. A decade's worth of interesting cars also made for good television, if you were paying attention. Vehicles didn't often steal the spotlight from Don, Betty, Roger, Joan and the gang, but they added meaningfully to the tone and beauty of the series. We sorted through the wheeled extras from Mad Men's archives, and choose some of our favorites to highlight. The list consists of cars that had at least a small impact on the plot of an episode, though certainly there are worthy gems hiding in just about every street and driving scene. Check out our subjective top five, and then let us know which of the Mad Men cars would be on your list. 1962 Cadillac Coupe DeVille – Season 2 Don Draper's Cadillac Coupe DeVille, all 500 feet of it, shows up in a few seasons of the show, but it's the first appearance that sets the tone. A Cadillac salesman, cut from the same cloth as Draper, asks what Don drives right now. "A Dodge," Don admits. "Those are wonderful if you want to get somewhere," allows the salesman, "this is for when you've already arrived." For a man on the move up corporate and social ladders that's a powerful message, and a pitch-perfect car. 1961 Lincoln Continental – Season 3 The most stylish Lincoln Continental ever is perfect set dressing for the mod show, of course. Though it's interesting that the car isn't cast as dapper Draper's ride, but rather his father-in-law's. Grandpa Gene does what all great grandfathers are bound to: lets his granddaughter Sally drive the big Lincoln while he works the pedals. Generational bond secured, in fine fashion. When you go back through the first three seasons of the show, you'll notice that Continentals show up more than once, too. There's nothing quite like them to evoke the best of the early '60s. 1963 John Deere 110 – Season 3 The only non-standard passenger vehicle on the list, no self-respecting gearhead/Mad Men fan should quibble with the inclusion of the John Deere 110 riding mower. For starters, the Deere is lovely to look at; a miniature version of the American Heartland icon in its green and yellow duds. The 110 appears as if milled from a solid block of steel, just the opposite of today's sleek, plasticky lawn minders (we're scouring Craigslist for one to bring home). The John Deere also has dear ramifications to the plot, too.
