OK guys here it is - the perfect cheap "Hot Rod" truck body to set your hot rod engine and tranny into - this truck was running 75 miles an hour up and down the freeway until about a year ago, until the owner decided to remove the engine and trans to use in something else - it is 100% complete and driveable in every way except there is no actual engine or trans - Driveshaft is even still there. So if you want a cool pretty solid old truck for cheap to run around in, this one can be ready to roll for you in a weekend if you have a donor engine in something you can use in it. It is set up for headers so if you drop in a V8 w/ headers you should not need to do any exhaust work. The "23" numbers on the fenders are just simple stick-on decals intended to promote the trucks' 23" tall chrome rims it used to have - you know today's kids and their ridiculously big wheels - the stickers will peel right off :)

Body is actually pretty damn nice for this price range - cab floor as carpet in it, but I looked up from the bottom and it looks like it needs inner rockers and outer cab floor work to be perfect, but the front fenders, inner fenders, doors, hood, cab roof, bed, EVERYTHING ELSE is real solid - the front fenders have some bubbling in the lower sections (see pics) and the hood has some bubbling etc under the park lights, but no rot to speak of anywhere - the door bottoms have no holes in them on the actual bottoms, just a little on the inner corners but its not bad - just some pinholes. The bed is very nice and there was never any bondo or repairs to the fenders or steps - they really are as nice and solid as they look! Inside of the bed is original red paint w/ most of the original wood still in it. Tailgate is dented but solid as a rock. Amazing condition of the inside and outside roof - great shape w/ beautiful drip rails. Cab corners are solid on both sides. Straight original grille w/ working headlights, wiring in tact etc, but the radio hole is widened for a CD player. Like I said - for the money, this is a perfect little short bed pickup you can drop your dream engine into and drive it like crazy this Summer....will be a great Hot Rod!

Additional photos are available - I took about 34 of them but Ebay will not let me put the link to them on here so you will have to request them I guess....

Delivery can be arranged for a fee to nearby states. The truck can sit here for as many weeks or months as it takes for you to come get it, but it must be paid in full within 10 days of this auctions' end regardless of when you are coming to get it. Nice safe no-fee storage if you want to come get it in warmer weather or whatever. Questions? CALL STEVE 256-486-1988

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
