This is a Texas original truck that I bought from the second
owner in 1981. I have enjoyed it tremendously, but due to my age and the coming
winter (I now live in Pittsburgh); I think it needs a new home. It is a daily
driver that I would trust to drive anywhere. Additionally, it has enough
options and comes with enough new parts that someone could make “Big Red” truly
special. It came from the factory with most all options as a Custom Cab
Deluxe model. I was also told it was a “Texas Dealer Special Edition” as it has
Genuine Chevrolet hood spears and crossed racing flag emblem that I have never
seen on another truck. Comes with the protecto-plate, original owners manual,
and many, many thousands of dollars of receipts. The truck was bought from
Graff Chevrolet in Grand Prairie, TX. I have a few more factory options that I
will include with the sale to make it one of the most highly-optioned trucks
you will see. The period-correct 327 4-barrel engine has about 20,000 miles
on the rebuild. The original Powerglide transmission and rear end have about
10,000 miles on the rebuild. All perform flawlessly. The correct original size
whitewall tires have about 5,000 miles on them. It passed rigorous PA Inspections the last two years, though
I have recently placed Historic plates on it so that I no longer have to waste
a day in an automotive waiting room. The few known issues are a slight wobble
in the steering wheel and a non-working horn button in the professionally
rebuilt steering column, so I will include another complete used column that
looks to be in great shape ($200). There is an exhaust leak on the left side,
it is a loose gasket. I have included a new “doughnut”. The oil pan drain bolt
leaks slightly, I have included a new Summit oil pan, drain bolt, one-piece
no-leak gasket and new ARP bolts ($92). I will include 5 quarts of Pennzoil and
new oil filter. The gas gauge doesn’t work, the gauge is new, and so I have
included a new sending unit for the tank ($75). The temperature gauge needs a
new sending unit and the Vintage Air system should be charged as I never use
it. Original seat, tracks, rebuild kit, and new red/white upholstery are
included ($300) to replace the almost new leather seat with flip-up middle cubby/console
and matching seat belts ($950) if desired, as is a complete set of new
replacement stainless steel exterior fleet side body molding/trim from Brothers
($600). While the truck is amazingly clean for its age, there are a
few small rust areas developing and a small dent in the passenger side bed. The
cab was replaced and the original VIN plate lost, but I have a new unstamped
plate with the correct original rosette rivets and reverse stamps to replace
the Chevrolet DD plate that goes above the driver’s door. I have two extra
rivets if anyone wants to make me an offer. The frame has the original VIN
stamped into it and matches the title. I also have a used and new GVW plate for
the side vent area. As mentioned, everything passed PA’s strict title and
inspection laws. I won’t divulge the reasonable reserve, but I am a motivated
seller, so I intend to sell the truck. Bid to win. I will help with shipping,
or you can fly into PIT, I will pick you up, and you can drive it home. $500
deposit from wining bidder in 3 days, reminder paid in cash or bank draft upon
pickup at my house. Check my feedback. ·

Race Recap: 2013 Twelve Hours of Sebring, cakewalk up front, grindfest out back [w/spoilers]
Tue, 19 Mar 2013This year's 12 Hours of Sebring wasn't exactly a foregone conclusion because we're still talking about racing, and anything can happen when the speeds are as high as the adrenaline and the desire. But we're still talking about Audi bringing it's two top-spec racers - and its huge budget and its nearly neurotic attention to detail - to a race that it uses as a test bed for The 24 Hours of Le Mans and as a way to open the endurance racing season with a victory.
Besides, 12 hours is a long time, especially at Sebring, and things didn't go all Audi's way. On top of that, although it was a pretty quiet race, behind the Audis things got even grimier, with plenty of battles, plenty of mechanical issues, and the new BMW Z4 GTE and Viper GTS-R being race tested. Oh, and that brand new chromed-out DeltaWing...
Meet the mother-daughter team that's worked on almost every Chevy Volt
Sun, May 11 2014It's Mother's Day, and we're soft enough we love our mothers enough to share a new video from General Motors with you. In it, we meet Monique Watson (left) and Evetta Osbourne, a mother-daughter team that works at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly where GM makes the Chevy Volt (along with all of GM's other plug-in hybrids: the Opel Ampera, Holden Volt and Cadillac ELR). The two work side-by-side and have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on almost all of those vehicles - nearly 80,000 of them - since GM started making the pre-production Volts in 2009. In a prepared statement, Watson said that she likes working next to her mom, day in and day out, and they the two are totally in sync when it comes to putting the 400-pound, 16.5-kWh packs into the vehicle undersides. They two can also share stories throughout the day, and Watson said, "The arrangement has absolutely improved our relationship." Osborne started working at Detroit-Hamtramck in 1999, Watson since 2006. If you're driving a Volt today, you probably have them to thank for doing a bit of the work putting your car together. See a short video of them in action below. It's Always Mother's Day for Detroit-Hamtramck Duo Mother, daughter install lithium-ion battery pack in nearly all GM electric vehicles 2014-05-08 DETROIT – For Detroit resident Evetta Osborne, every day is Mother's Day. That's because she literally works side by side with her daughter, Monique Watson, at General Motors' Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. They have installed the lithium-ion battery pack on nearly every Chevrolet Volt, Opel Ampera, Holden Volt, and Cadillac ELR since production began. In fact, apart from vacation days and an occasional sick day, the mother-daughter duo has installed almost every battery pack since the Volt was in pre-production in 2009. The ELR launched earlier this year. All told – including Ampera – that's more than 80,000 electric vehicles. "We're a good team and our relationship is secondary when it comes to performing our jobs – but it's great to work alongside my daughter, said Osborne, a mother of five. Because the battery packs weigh more than 400 pounds each, automatic guided vehicles – robotic carts that use sensors to follow a path through the plant – deliver them just as the vehicle body structures glide into position overhead. The carts then lift the T-shaped packs, and Osborne and Watson guide them into the chassis and secure each one with 24 fasteners.
GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch
Mon, 04 Feb 2013According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.
