What we have here is perhaps the most beautiful, un-mollested, straight, fire engine red Chevy Blazer you will ever see.  This number matching truck is a true California car, built at the Fremont plant, owned and lived in California all her life.

The Blazer also has the "R" code meaning she has her original 400ci, 175hp power plant.  This is the torque monster if you need to tow your boat.  I can not be 100% sure but I would guess that the engine has been rebuilt at some point because of the high compression as tested.

The car runs excellent as the carb was fully rebuilt 50 miles ago.  The compression checked out high and the drivetrain needs nothing.  Transmission shifts smoothly as you would expect.

Let me start with the vehicle itself.  I acquired the Blazer on trade for several new mattresses I provided for an elderly couple that had just bought a new home that more fit they're slower lifestyle,  According to the 65 year old husband, he bought the car back in the mid eighties for tailgating at SF 49er games.  He said to me, and I have no reason to doubt him, that the car has never left a paved road!  There are no visual signs of the car ever having been lifted or set up for mud.  When I painted the car, there were no dents.  There is no bondo on this car that I know of as the previous paint was clearly dent-free faded original white factory paint!

The truck was then stripped and a two-stage $7500 paint job was put on the car, including the coding of the engine bay, jambs, and interior.  The color that was chosen was a factory Chevy Victory red, the same red you will find on later Blazers and Vette's.  We decided against the correct factory red for 1977 because it was an orangish, dull mess.  The true, fire-engine red of the later Chevy's pop like a Ferrari as you can see in the detailed pics I've included.  The truck looks immaculate and will get thumbs ups everywhere you go.

The chrome is bright and straight.  Perhaps my emotional favorite aspect of this blazer are the factory rally's.  They are five of the original 4x4 wide wheels with new beauty rings and tires.  They make the car look as if it was just bought from the local dealer!  The wheel set alone would fetch you $2.4k if you were to sell them to buy oversize wheels.  A custom lockable rear hitch carrier is implemented to free up rear space inside the car.

Also included (but not mounted) is a very nice powder coated roll bar that you can use or sell depending on what your final use is.  I wanted to truck to be as close to stock as possible so I chose not to have it mounted back after the new carpet kit was installed but again, it will be included in the sale for you to do with it what you want.  The roll bar can be mounted with the rear seat intact.

The top and truck bed were both armour-plated with black bed-liner to provide years of tough protection.

Let me provide a list to you of everything that is new on the truck.

carburetor
exhaust system
tires
grill
mirror
carpet
weatherstripping (most)
seat covers
roll bar (optional)
signal covers
door handles
floor mats
spare tire rack (with key)
windshield

I've put about $10k into this sweet blazer over the past year to get her to where she is now.

Don't you dare miss this one.

Recharge Wrap-up: NEDC's NOx problems, autonomous Chevy Volts

Mon, Dec 7 2015

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) found a significant difference in NOx emissions in Euro 6 diesel cars in NEDC and WLTC testing. While 88 percent of the cars tested met emissions standards for NEDC, NOx emissions averaged five times higher under WLTC, with only 27 percent of vehicles under the limit. WLTC is considered to be a more realistic driving cycle, using hot starts and factoring a higher top speed as well as harder and more frequent accelerations than the NEDC. Employees will be able to use a carsharing app to reserve a car, which will then drive itself to the set destination. The project will allow GM to collect important data and experience to help the company more quickly develop autonomous driving technology. The lithium-ion batteries used to power the EV were recycled from other Renault EVs. With the electric Trafic, Carwatt – a company that converts vehicles to use electric power – aims to demonstrate the "circular economy" of batteries, which can provide more value through a longer lifecycle. Read more in the press release below. Carwatt presents a unique automotive application for second-life batteries from electric vehicles. On the sidelines of the COP21 summit, in the Solutions Gallery running from 2 to 9 December 2015 in Le Bourget near Paris, Carwatt and its partners —Renault, Paris City Council, BPI France, the Ales Ecole des Mines Engineering School, and the Bobigny Business Campus — are showing a very special electric Renault Trafic. This prototype vehicle, the only one of kind in the world, is powered by second-life lithium-ion batteries recycled from Renault electric cars. Circular economy at work with electric vehicles When, over time, the batteries of a Renault electric vehicle fall the performance threshold specified for their initial automotive power duty (around 75% of initial capacity), they can still provide valuable service in "second-life" applications before end-of-life disposal at a recycling centre. Experiments are already under way on power storage applications, for example.

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt class action suit proposed, Tesla stock could outperform in 2015

Sat, Dec 27 2014

A class action suit has been proposed against General Motors for a steering problem in the Chevrolet Volt. The plaintiffs claim that a defect can cause the steering to freeze intermittently, and that General Motors either knows or should have known about the problem. The case, filed in New Jersey, also claims that defective parts are replaced with the same or similar parts, which are also defective. The plaintiffs say that claims for the 100-plus-member class exceed $5 million. Read more at Law360 or at BigClassAction. Tesla Motors stock (TSLA) has risen after weeks of losses. It gained 5.4 percent during the week ending December 19, when it closed at $219.29 per share. Since then, it rose slightly more, closing at $222.26 on December 24. Morgan Stanley lowered its target price on Tesla stock from $320 to $290, predicting lower sales on the upcoming Model III than expected before, but still called Tesla a good long-term investment. Analysts at CNBC predicted Tesla to be the best performing stock of 2015. Read more at ETF Daily News. Oslo- and New York-based architecture firm Snohetta has designed a zero-emissions house that also charges an electric car. The ZEB Pilot House, built in Larvik, Norway, uses a solar panel on the roof to power the house, which also provides enough excess energy to charge an EV. To make the most of energy most efficiently, the house uses smart technology to use as much energy as it can once it's harvested. This means one can turn on appliances like the washing machine remotely while the sun is at the optimum angle in the sky - perhaps during mid-day when the residents are at work. The house also uses organic materials and is designed to save as much energy as possible. Read more at Wired.
