SELLER REMARKS |

It's likely that Streetside Classics sells more 1957 Chevys than anyone else in the business, so when we say this one is special, you know it demands some extra attention. Fitted with modern fuel injected power, this classic-looking Bel Air has the moves of a modern muscle car and will easily withstand the test of time to remain at the top of collectors' wish lists.
Hard to go wrong with a black '57 Chevy hardtop, and by eschewing the two-tone treatment, this one skips the friendly '50s look and goes right to serious street machine. The build is fairly recent so the finish is glossy and slick, but they were careful not to delete even one single piece of that gorgeous Bel Air trim. Black means some overtime in the block sanding department and that was time well spent here, and while it does show a few very minor signs of age, this is one black car that was definitely done right. The sheetmetal is wave-free, the finish is deep enough to swim in, and yes, those Fuel Injection badges are earned, not just decoration. There was also a sizeable chunk of change invested in the trim, from the beautiful bumpers to all the stainless that lines up so well, to the gold anodized pieces that are an inkling that there's a potent V8 under the hood. The unique window flappers that Chevy used in '57 are brand new, so they work properly and LED taillights out back retain the original look with a neat light show when the sun goes down.
The same "everything old is new again" look was used inside, where factory bench seats were reupholstered in light gray leather that looks period perfect and suitably updated. The factory instrument panel was stuffed full of Dakota Digital instruments that light up when you turn the key, and the steering wheel looks slightly fatter and slightly smaller in diameter than the original, but it would take an expert to spot it. An AM/FM stereo with CD changer provides all-day entertainment and with a powerful A/C system tucked under the dash, this car is as comfortable as your daily driver. A big B&M shifter for the 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is perhaps the most noticeable addition but it certainly doesn't look out of place given this Bel Air's performance credentials. The trunk was finished with durable satin black paint and a matching black carpet, and moving the battery back here makes room for the L98 up front.
That 350 cubic inch L98 and matching 700R4 transmission were rebuilt just last year and the engine includes new fuel injectors and a new fuel pump, so it runs superbly. The intake is distinctive and you already know that the L98 is perhaps the most durable and torquey small block you can choose for your rod. Factory equipment was used wherever possible, although there is a big aluminum radiator up front to keep it cool effortlessly and power rack-and-pinion steering provides a more up-to-date feel. Twin Flowmasters give it that modern muscle car sound that'll definitely get noticed at car shows, causing guys to do a double-take when they see it's a '57, and the lowered stance gives it just a bit of attitude without killing ride quality. Polished Torque Thrusts in staggered 16- and 18-inch sizes is an old-school trick and they wear 205/60/16 front and 235/60/18 rear radials.
Very nicely built with all the equipment that makes it reliable and comfortable, this is the kind of Bel Air that you've always wanted to own. Call today!

Geneva is one of the most glittering auto shows in the world, but the list of high-powered and bespoke luxury cars was decadent this year even by the rich standards of the Swiss exhibition. It's great for enthusiasts to revel in the flame-throwing Aston Martin Vulcan, the racing-inspired elegance of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept and the insane performance of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but there's a reason for all of this opulence: the luxury market is big business. And it's growing. IHS Automotive forecasts that so-called ultra-premium sales will nearly triple this decade from 123,000 to 353,000 units around the world. The estimate includes brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, but doesn't count BMW, Mercedes and Audi, which offer less expensive models in addition to their high-end flagships. Though IHS includes Porsche and its relatively large volume in the study, the ultra-premium segment is still set grow at about the same rate, even without the German automaker's figures. So what is propelling all of this growth in the most expensive segment of the auto industry? Put simply, there's more rich people. IHS Automotive principal analyst Tim Urquhart pointed to economic expansion in China, market recovery in the United States and a surge in the lucrative technology sector as contributing factors. This dovetails with a research report by UK-based Oxfam, an international relief organization, which found the world's richest one-percent owned 48 percent of global wealth in 2014, and it's expected to increase to more than 50 percent by 2016. View 17 Photos Carmakers are moving quickly to capitalize with new products, expanding their portfolios with low-volume speedsters like the 800-hp V12 Vulcan at Geneva, and plans to enter new segments, like Rolls-Royce's strategy to make an SUV. "Ultra-premium carmakers are looking to explore ways of growing their product offerings, and thus their bottom lines, in this most potentially profitable of segments," Urquhart wrote in a report on the Geneva show. In a nutshell, there are more choices for people with more money. It's a good time to have expensive taste. Other News & Notes 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata production launches It won't be long now. To say that things aren't going well for the newly redesigned 2013 Chevrolet Malibu is a pretty sizable understatement. Reports have been swirling about the Malibu getting an emergency design refresh, less than a year after its introduction, as well as having its production at the Fairfax Assembly Plant halted twice already this year for excessive inventory. Now, Motor Trend is reporting that the midsize sedan will be receiving price drops across the board ranging from $300 on a number of models up to $770 on the 1LT trim; offsetting some of MSRP drop, though, the destination charge has increased from $760 to $810.
Without destination, the entry-level Malibu LS now starts at $21,995, which is still about $300 more than a Honda Accord and about $300 less than the segment's top-selling Toyota Camry. This new pricing also drops the price of the Eco, 2LT and 3LT trims by $300. The LTZ trim has dropped by $415, meaning that the Malibu's top dog now starts at just under $30,000, excluding destination.
Here are the new starting prices for all eight of the Malibu trim levels compared to the previous prices for the 2013 model year (including destination):

The May 2016 sales numbers are in, and it looks as though FCA is getting some vindication for boldly cancelling two slow-selling car models. Meanwhile, Ford saw overall sales dip and GM's May volume took a big dive versus the same month in 2015. While Marchionne's decision to axe the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart has drawn criticism as being short-sighted, it's working for FCA so far. Although the Dart and 200 aren't out of production yet and no capacity has been shifted to crossover or trucks, May's numbers show that the emphasis on Jeep and Ram models makes sense right now. FCA's US sales rose 1 percent last month compared to May 2015, putting the year-to-date total at 955,186 vehicles, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Standouts included the Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Patriot, and the Fiat 500X. Ram pickup sales were down 3 percent. And your fun fact is that Alfa Romeo sales were up precisely 10 percent, for a total of 44 4Cs sold versus 40 in the same month last year. At FoMoCo, the Ford brand took a hit to the tune of 6.4 percent from May 2015 to 2016, registering 226,190 sales last month. Lincoln showed improvement on its modest numbers, going from 9,174 to 9,807, a 6.9 percent increase. Overall, Ford was down 5.9 percent for the month to 235,997; despite the slump, year-to-date total Ford sales are up 4.2 percent to 1,112,939. Strong sellers included Escape, Expedition, F-Series, and Transit - big stuff. Most small and/or efficient models (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, C-Max) saw sales slides. Fusion sales were also down, likely due to effects of model changeover to the freshened 2017 model. Ford has promised four new crossovers and SUVs by 2020 and if things keep trending this way the company will be able to sell them, but things could change in the next four years. GM saw the worst of it for domestic brands. Retail and fleet sales were down for each of the four divisions, with the May 2016 total dropping 18 percent to 240,450 vehicles. GM's year-to-date sales are down 5.0 percent in 2016 to 1,183,705. Both the Sierra and Silverado were down significantly, and the majority of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac nameplates saw sales decreases, with both small cars and larger utilities included. Not even big stuff could help GM this month, it seems. We'll have more on the rest of the industry's May sales as those figures trickle in.
