SELLER REMARKS

The true measure of a great design is whether it ages well. In the case of this 1955 Chevy Bel Air, the answer is unquestionably that it is one of the greatest automotive designs of all time. Beautifully restored with a few subtle upgrades, this shoebox Chevy is a high-quality piece that is equally at home on the show field or the highway.

Finished in India Ivory over Burgundy, there's no mistaking a 1955 Chevy for anything else. The design was game-changing when it was new, and even today it remains a benchmark for all car guys. Sooner or later, we all want to own a Tri-Five Chevy, don't we? The classic lines and restrained use of chrome and brightwork make it difficult to improve on the original, so the builder of this 2-door coupe wisely chose to simply restore it to an extremely high standard. Paint and bodywork are quite good, with a finish that's just a light cut-and-buff away from being a show-contender. Gaps are good all around, and the entire car fits together in a way that modern cars just can't seem to duplicate-pull the door closed and you'll know what I'm talking about. The chrome has been professionally restored or replaced with exact reproductions, and the car proudly wears its trim like jewelry. Even the red, white, and blue Chevy emblem on the nose is a wonderful piece that offers crisp details and bright colors.

Inside, this slick coupe got a nice upgrade in the form of cloth upholstery on the original seats, stitched into very 1950s-looking patterns. Matching door panels and color-matched carpets that are almost exactly the same color complete a very tasteful passenger compartment that's easy to love. The original gauges have been joined by a set of modern dials that monitor all the vitals, plus a column-mounted tachometer framed by a wood Grant GT steering wheel. An AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit has been fitted into the original radio's location with speakers throughout the passenger compartment. There's also A/C, a B&M shifter on the transmission tunnel, and a new tilt column, all of which make it easy to get comfortable for long hauls, and plenty of room in the trunk for all your gear plus a brand-new full-sized spare tire.

Power comes from a great-running 350 hooked to a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission. And while there's nothing more traditional than a small block Chevy in a 1955 Bel Air, the many upgrades under the hood make this car safer and more reliable than any stock '55 ever was. From the dual circuit disc brakes to the alternator to the big electric cooling fan out front, this is a car that can be driven daily, and taken on cross-country trips at the drop of a hat. It also looks great, with Chevy Orange engine enamel and lots of chrome dress-up. Underneath, it's clean and tidy, but not so over-detailed that you're afraid to drive it, and you'll never get tired of the long-tube headers and Flowmaster soundtrack. Air shocks adjust the attitude out back and it rolls on classic Torque Thrust wheels with 235/75/15 blackwall radials for a super traditional look.

No, it's not radical, but there's no question this 1955 Bel Air is timeless. Put it in your garage and I guarantee you'll never run out of reasons to take it for a spin. Call today!

GM recalls 3.6 million vehicles for airbag-software problems

Fri, Sep 9 2016

The Basics: General Motors is recalling 3.64 million vehicles across its lineup for an airbag-related issue. The recall covers the 2014-2015 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS, and Spark EV; 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Trax, Caprice PPV, Silverado 1500, Buick Encore, and GMC Sierra 1500; and 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Sierra HD, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV. The Problem: Affected vehicles have a sensing and diagnostic module that controls the airbags and seat-belt pretensioners. The software it uses has a defect that can prompt the module to run a diagnostic test under specific driving conditions, which will also deactivate the front airbags and pretensioners. This means that it would be possible for those safety systems to not activate in a crash, potentially leading to injury or death. Injuries/Deaths: General Motors began an investigation that led to the recall after a 2014 Silverado was involved in a crash in which the airbags did not deploy. No information was given as to injuries or deaths. The Fix: Owners can bring their vehicles to a local General Motors dealer where a software update will be installed to fix the issue. The fix will be free of charge. If you own one: General Motors will contact owners of affected cars, and owners can check whether their vehicles are affected by visiting entering their vehicle identification numbers at either the GM Owner Center website or the NHTSA website. Owners can then schedule a time to have the update installed. Related Video:

2014 Chevrolet SS makes its live debut

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

Chevrolet showed off the new 2014 SS in an airport hangar last night, its first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan in the US since the Impala SS from 1997. We'll have more to say about the SS later today, but this is the sedan that Chevrolet sees as the final piece in restoring its performance credentials. For those of you looking for a manual transmission, however, that wish will go unfulfilled - at least for now: the only two options buyers will have are the color and whether or not they want a sunroof.
We'll work on getting some more angles (in better light) today at Daytona International Speedway, but with fans seeing the car for the first time, we don't hold out much luck of getting a clear shot. So for now, enjoy the high-res gallery above.
