1957 CHEVY! REBUILT 454, NEW SEATS, FOUR WHEEL DISC BRAKES!

NO RESERVE! BID TO WIN!

1957 CHEVROLET! STORED INDOORS AND WORKED ON OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS! TONS OF WORK ALREADY COMPLETED! LOW MILE 454, 700R TRANSMISSION, NEWLY UPHOLSTERED SEATS, FOUR WHEEL DISC BRAKES, RECHROMED BUMPER (mid section), BELAIR DASH, & MUCH MORE!

The custom 17" wheels within some of the photos, they are not included with this auction as they have been sold. The Chevy currently sits on a set of Pontiac wheels which you will see within some of the photos.

This 1957 Chevy has spent the last decade tucked away in a garage. The previous owner would go through his spurts and spend as much as he could when it was available. He worked extra hours, borrowed, sold personal items, he did whatever he could to get his baby that much closer to being completed. This Chevy has had a tremendous amount of work done to it. It is very complete and comes with a whole lot of goodies. In my opinion, there is no better way to buy them than when they are at this point. Right after someone gets ambitious and spends all of the money on the vital aspects/big ticket items and then sells it off at a fraction of what they have in to it. So if you're looking for a steal, this is it.

Body: The external sheet metal on the Chevy is actually pretty solid. The rear sill, cowl, trunk lid, hood, roof, top sides of the fenders, top sides of the quarters, doors, everything is very solid. The rockers along with a couple of minor spots within the quarters and fenders are about the only spots that will require some attention. They are not terrible and I definitely would not go to the extent of replacing them. With a little sheet metal work, they would be good to go. The firewall in these Tri-Fives have to be modified in order to fit a big block which was done on this 57. So the mid section of the firewall still needs replaced. The floors as well as the trunk will also need replaced. The frame underneath the Chevy is solid. The previous owner was working to do away with the side moldings/trim but he got as far as sealing up the passenger side and that was it. With that, the side trim is about the only trim that I am missing. The remaining trim does come with the car. The bumpers are in relatively good shape. The previous owner sent off the mid sections of the front bumper and had them rechromed. Those pieces are still packaged up and are in excellent shape. The 454 that is within the Chevy was mounted up professionally as you will see within the photos located below. All of the glass (with the exception of the drivers side door and passenger side door glass) is in good shape. Located below, you will find additional photos of the Chevy. Some of which show it with a set of custom 17" wheels. I have since sold those wheels so this auction is for the 57 and the Pontiac wheels that it is currently sitting on which you can see located below.

Engine & Mechanical: The 454 that is within the Chevy was used in another vehicle before being taken out and set in this 57. I do have a four barrel carburetor that goes with the Chevy but unfortunately I did not have it on hand to take photos of it. The 700R transmission was also in excellent working order when it was pulled. The Chevy has front disc brakes and included with the sale, I will be giving a ten bolt posi rear end with a disc brake setup on it. This is out of an early 90's Z28 and has been measured to insure that it will fit.

Interior: The front buckets and back seat have both been refoamed and reupholstered. They were done professionally to the tune of about 2k dollars. The Chevy also has a Belair dash which is installed. The door panels within the Chevy are in decent shape.

So here is that rare opportunity to own one of the most desirable Chevrolets that were ever manufactured. Much of the heavy work has been completed so someone is going to get a phenomenal deal while getting a huge head start. I can't see this Chevy taking more than thirty days to complete. I strongly encourage anyone who is interested to please call or email to schedule a time to come check it out. I would also like to add that I am usually on the phone from 7 AM until about 12 AM so you are always welcome to call and if I do not answer, just leave a message and I will return your call immediately. I know from my own experience with purchasing cars online, most of the time it is very difficult to get someone on the phone and to obtain the information you need. So I try to always stay on top of emails and phone calls. We do have a clear title for this 57.

Thanks,

Shawn

Driving Granatelli's turbine-powered 1978 Chevy Corvette [w/video]

Thu, Jan 8 2015

With its curvy snout and feminine haunches, the third-gen Chevrolet Corvette looks like a dreamy – if dated – exemplar of Sports Car Fantasy 101 when viewed through modern eyes. This particular specimen circa '78, clad in silver and black paint with red pinstripes, appears to be a well-preserved example from the era. Apart from its low-profile Pirellis, slightly raised and slotted hood, spacious stance and a certain hand-painted descriptor alongside its crossed flag logos, you'd never guess there's a Space-Age propulsion unit powering this Coke bottle-bodied ride. Climb inside, and you're presented with aircraft gauges and big, colorful square buttons in the center panel. It takes a push of the "Ignitor" button, a tap of the starter button, and a slide of a T-handle for this nearly 40-year-old sports car to start sounding like Gulfstream G650 ready for takeoff. Yep, you're sitting in an 880-horsepower, turbine-powered Corvette, the only one of its kind in the world. Welcome to the whoosh. What The...? Built by Vince Granatelli, son of Indy 500 guru Andy Granatelli, this curious Corvette came into being by cramming a Pratt & Whitney ST6N-74 gas turbine engine into the donor car's lengthy front end. The same type of Jet A-burning mill powered Granatelli Senior's STP-sponsored racecar at the 1967 Indianapolis 500, where it famously led most of the 198 of 200 laps until a $6 transmission bearing failed, knocking it out of the race. The idea of turbine power usurping internal combustion was so threatening that Indy's governing body restricted turbine performance into obsolescence thereafter. A turbine-powered Corvette sounds excessive because it is. But there are also things about this 880-horsepower, 1,161-pound-feet monster that might surprise you. While it smacks of futurist exoticism and cost a then-dizzying $37,000 in 1967, the Canadian-built powerplant uses 80 percent fewer parts than an internal combustion V8 and will run on virtually anything combustible – whiskey, diesel, even Chanel No. 5. Though it's triple the length of a V8, the Pratt & Whitney beast weighs only 285 pounds. It's also one hell of a robust workhorse, typically serving as an auxiliary power unit for commercial aircraft or a generator in oil fields, where it can run for tens of thousands of consecutive hours before needing an overhaul. To adapt the Chevrolet for jet duty, the nose section was gutted and a sub-frame was built to compensate for the loosey-goosey front end.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible gives us a couple of looks

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

Put away your pixel paintbrushes, kids. Pack up your Photoshop. This is the real-deal 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible in its first official images. The droptop Chevrolet will roll into the bright lights of the Palexpo exhibition at next week's Geneva Motor Show, a four-wheeled statement of intent that General Motors is serious about taking its Corvette franchise global.
Chevy isn't providing anything in the way of further details with these two shots, but we've learned at least a couple of things about the car shown here. First off, the example seen in these images is fitted with the optional Z51 Performance Package - something that isn't immediately evident because there's no sign of the coupe model's prominent ductwork on its rear haunches. In order to accommodate the power folding hard tonneau cover, the vents that feed the transmission and differential coolers have been relocated to the underside of the car. The dark paint color on this example also does a good job of muting the contrasting black front fender vents and hood opening - Z51-spec design details that have proven to be somewhat controversial.
One other thing to note: These two shots also display the Stingray wearing different alloy wheels than the split five-spoke design shown at the hardtop's Detroit Auto Show unveiling in January. The simpler, thin five-spoke wheels should do a good job of showing off the Z51's upgraded brakes, and they'll be optional on the coupe as well.

Kurt Busch to shake and bake (again) in Ricky Bobby car at Talladega

Sat, 19 Oct 2013

Kurt Busch will channel Ricky Bobby for another NASCAR race, this time driving a Wonder-sponsored Chevrolet SS, in this weekend's Camping World RV Sales 500 at the Talladega Motor Speedway. Unlike past tie-ins, though, there's actually an element of sponsorship here (the "Me" car was done when Busch was running on a team without sponsorship).
It was arranged by Flower Foods, the new owner of the Wonder brand. Wonder was part of the bankrupt Hostess company, which temporarily exited the US market 2012, and set off the Great Twinkie Shortage.
Busch has made something of a habit of channeling characters from famous racing movies, most recently running Tom Cruise's City Chevrolet livery from Days of Thunder in a Nationwide Series race earlier this year. Busch kicked off his movie-inspired antics, though, at Talladega in 2012, when he raced El Diablo's ("It's like... Spanish for like a fighting chicken") "Me" car complete with a cougar on the hood. He even went so far as to channel the lovable idiot that is Ricky Bobby during the race, dropping a few catchphrases about macchiatos and slingshots.
