SELLER REMARKS

After seeing this fantastic 1957 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan, I have to say I'm thrilled that it isn't red. Not that I don't like red cars, but if I had a nickel for every Matador Red '57 I've seen, well, I'd be able to buy one and paint it any color I wanted.

Anyway, my point is, this one wears PPG Hot Lick Orange, and I like it. A lot. It's different, it's high-visibility, but it also really works on the '57's shape. A mild custom like this does well with interesting colors, and admittedly orange isn't a big risk, but getting all the elements to come together so nicely is what makes this car so special. In essence, it's more than the sum of its parts. A few key pieces of trim were removed, including the door handles and emblems, so it looks a bit sleeker than your usual '57, and combined with the darkly tinted windows, the car has a very imposing look that suggests performance. Gaps are excellent and the sheetmetal is straight enough to withstand the scrutiny that a car like this is sure to generate. The chrome that does remain is, of course, in outstanding condition, since you just can't have a '57 Chevy with lousy shiny bits.

The interior makes no pretense about originality, and provides first-class accommodations by using modern buckets swathed in two-tone hides and a custom back seat, all of which look like they were OEM bits from a high-end European import. The dash is almost entirely hand-fabricated, although the instruments pay a passing tribute to the originals, which is a very slick trick. Obviously, smooth was the key word, and any traces of knobs, handles, levers, vents, and other equipment was erased during the build and carefully stashed out of sight. But have no fear, it still carries all the requisite goodies, including A/C, an AM/FM/CD stereo system, and an automatic transmission, all tucked into the custom center console. And check out the original clock stashed in there, kind of a cool feature that really works. The trunk is beautifully finished to show standards, including a beautiful enclosure for the stereo gear with a window to show it off.

Someone with a keen sense of style was in charge of the engine bay, and not only is it a blast to drive, it also looks amazing. The 350 cubic inch V8 looks almost otherworldly in black with just a few polished accessories to light things up. The block was bored .030 oversized and stuffed with flat-top pistons, an Erson cam, and a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads, plus a matching intake and carb, so it runs every bit as great as it looks. Wiring and plumbing were neatly hidden and the surrounding landscape is as custom and beautifully finished as the body. Shifting duties fall to a 700R4 4-speed automatic spinning a set of 4.10 gears in the 10-bolt rear, but with that overdrive gear, it's still a fantastic highway cruiser. A full custom side-exit exhaust system gives it a wonderful street-racer sound and it sits exactly right on those 17-inch Torque Thrusts with 225/55/17 front and 255/55/17 rear Goodyear radials.

3. The winning bidder is required to contact Streetside Classic Cars within 24 hours after the close of the auction to finalize the details of the transaction.

4. A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close. This deposit reserves the vehicle and removes it from the market. Acceptable payment types for deposit are: credit card, wire transfer, cashier's check, and money order.

5. If winning bidder does not contact Streetside Classic Cars and submit deposit within 48 hours of auction close, vehicle may be made available to the next highest bidder or another qualified buyer on a first come, first serve basis.

10. We can assist you in delivery through our network of private and commercial carriers. Most of them can deliver the vehicle to your driveway. We assume no responsibility for damages or delays incurred once a vehicle is in a shipper's custody.

Seeing the Detroit Auto Show via drone

Seeing the Chevrolet display at the Detroit Auto Show is worth doing this year, and not just because of the new Corvette Z06, Volt and Bolt concept. In order to attract the new kids, The Bowtie has gone what the old kids used to call "buck wild" with their show stand at Cobo Hall. A Corvette Z06, Trax, and Colorado are parked along a central aisle, called Mainstreet, at the end of which is a 20-foot-tall, 73-foot long transparent screen lording over the new Volt. Elsewhere are five more 20-foot-tall screens broadcasting nine stories today's Chevrolet wants to tell about its vehicles, from performance to belief in the power of play to its 4G LTE-equipped OnStar telematics service. Then there are the social media and virtual reality safety installations, the community presentations and more. Chevrolet flew a drone through the stand to show off what it's doing, which is has replaced eye-level video as the next best thing to being there. You can check it out in the video above.

GM expected to debut two new crossovers at Detroit Auto Show

Next month, General Motors is expected to debut two new crossovers at the North American International Auto Show. That's according to Automotive News and The Wall Street Journal, which reports that the successors to the aging Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Terrain will finally make their debut. The two crossovers have been on sale since 2009 and 2010 respectively and are due for updates as the competition has newer models on the market. Both crossovers play in growing market segments where sales success is crucial for the respective brands. GM, and the automotive industry as a whole, has been shifting its focus towards crossovers in the last few years. The Traverse and the Terrain are some of the oldest SUVs on the market and are in dire need of an update. GMC's Acadia, the former corporate clone to the Traverse (and Buick Acadia), switched to a new platform in 2016. And the Terrain's platform-mate, the Chevrolet Equinox, was revealed a few months ago. Both the new Chevy and GMC models are expected to go on sale late in 2017 as 2018 models. Look for a follow up to the Traverse's sister, the Buick Enclave, to make an appearance soon. 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.
