Fuel Injected Ram Jet Restomod with Outstanding Build Quality

An American icon, this rotisserie-built restomod combines the classic lines and style of the 1955 Bel Air with modern reliability, comfort and style. Built on a completely restored late '70's Impala frame and coil spring suspension, this car drives like new. It's the perfect combination of tight, smooth, quiet, agile and luxurious.

Attention to detail abounds throughout. Fit, finish and component quality are evident everywhere you look. From the polished March Belt Drive in the engine compartment, to the quality leather interior, to the upholstery-finished trunk... no detail was overlooked.

This beauty is motivated by an electronic fuel-injected 350ci Ram Jet V8, direct from GM Performance Parts. Power from its modern engine is delivered through a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, providing both economy and cruising comfort. Dual electric fans work with a Griffin aluminum radiator to keep things cool, while exhaust gases are released through Sanderson headers and dual turbo exhaust.

The laser-straight body of this 210 Sedan is finished in a beautiful pure red basecoat/clearcoat. The exterior trim from a Bel Air was painstakingly straightened and polished to a high luster before installation. All chrome was treated to a show-quality finish, with new glass throughout. Classic chrome America Racing Torq Thrust wheels are shod with BF Goodrich Radial TA's for that classic look.

But the interior is where the driving experience all comes together. After extensive insulation and sound deadening, beautifully tailored top grain leather in taupe was used to cover the seating surfaces. An IDIT tilt steering column topped by a custom, small-diameter vintage steering wheel provides improved driver position and control. Driver feedback is handled through white-faced custom gauges from Classic Instruments. Vintage Air climate control, power windows and power door locks complete the luxury drive.

If you appreciate the classic, simple beauty of the 1955 Chevrolet but prefer a more modern driving experience, this '55 is the one to see! For more information on this beauty, please call 901-309-8899.

2016 Chevy Volt powertrain video teasers

Fri, Oct 31 2014

If there's one thing we've learned about plug-in vehicle fans, you have a thing for seeing your cars get made. The series of videos showing BMW i3 production was strangely popular, as were the shots from inside the VW e-Golf plant. Well, with General Motors pulling the veil off of the 2016 Chevy Volt this week, it's time to take a peek at the production process for that vehicle as well. You're welcome. Up first we've got a clip from CNN Money showing a little bit about how the new Volt's new battery pack and other powertrain components are made. Those of you who are trying to read the lithium tea leaves and see if the new shape reveals that the 2016 Volt will have five seats might want to check it out. Then we've got two clips from GM itself, one showing an animation about the updated Voltec powertrain and another with some B Roll of the old Volt. Since GM doesn't want us to see the new car quite yet, we'll have to enjoy this for now. Watch below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. China's rise, global restructuring wither GM's Korea division

Wed, Jan 7 2015

An article in the Daily Kanban suggests the sun is setting on GM Korea, and it could already be well into dusk. GM Korea came about when General Motors, along with co-investors SAIC and Suzuki, bought Daewoo Motors from parent company Daewoo Group in 2001; it had a previous tie-up with GM, a joint venture that ended in 1992, although Daewoo cars were based on GM cars until 1996. Over the decade following the purchase, it became such an important part of operations that it was renamed GM Korea in 2011, "to reflect its heightened status in [the] global operations of GM." Just two years later, the printed rumors were that the subsidiary responsible for a fifth of Chevrolet's global production could be shutting down. The division's sales were down almost 21 percent through November of last year, counting domestic South Korean sales, exports, and CKD – Complete Knock Down – products. That makes the labor strife, already an issue for four years, even more acute, reports say the subsidiary will lose $36 million a year if it can't get the job and wage cuts it wants, and government concessions can't make up for the losses. And it gets worse, so head over to Daily Kanban to read the rest of the story.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
