Up for sale is my 1964 Chevy Belair surf wagon.  This is the 9 passenger model and has the rear facing seat.  This car was recently finished so everything is new and fresh.  The exterior of the wagon is original and has not been changed or clearcoated.  It has modest pinstriping and some small scallops.  The body is super solid and has no rust through.  Just great surface patina.  The floors are 100% solid along with the body/frame mounts. All doors open and shut like new, no sagging. Full air ride "fast bag" suspension. This car lays out real nice. Air lift Dominator bags - 2600 up front, 2500 in the rear. Dual chrome Viair 480c compressors, 1/2" SMC valves, Firestone tank.  The air ride switches are integrated into the dash where the center air vent used to be.  An air pressure gauge to monitor tank PSI was molded into the drivers side air vent.  All the air ride equipment is hidden under the rear facing seat.  Completely out of site but very accessible of needed.  An Optima yellow top battery is located in the rear spare tire compartment. The entire car has been re-wired with a brand new 18 circuit painless wiring harness. Vintage 14" supreme wheels are wrapped with skinny whitewall radial tires.  Wheels have custom bullet center caps. Tires are brand new with about 300 miles on them. A 350ci. engine was just installed along with a turbo350 trans.  New dual exhaust.  Shifting is done with a custom Gennie shifter (buttonless) that sports an old wheel from a longboard style skateboard. Under the hood is very clean.  Freshly painted matte black.  All wiring is hidden.  Motor has vintage polished Cal-Custom valve covers with Mooneyes breathers and air cleaner.  Polished intake, chrome headers, etc.  Interior is awesome.  It has brand new carpet.  Dash and metal trim parts were sanded and painted an ivory/cream color. Steering wheel is modified and has matching bullet center cap that wheels have. Seats have been professionally re-covered in Mexican serape blankets.  Door panels are wrapped in burlap coffee-bean sacks from South America.  The headliner is actual bamboo.  The middle and rear facing seats fold down flat so you can load a ton of stuff (music/band gear, tools, parts, etc.)  so this wagon is ideal for business owners, musicians, etc.  The car has a brand new Kenwood stereo with Ipod hook up.  4" Kenwood speakers were added to the front kick panel.  Kenwood 6x9s are located between the two rear seats. The brakes are all freshly rebuilt.  All the glass is good with no cracks.  Even the rear power window works. In my opinion, this car needs nothing.  It's a hop in it and go deal.  This car is adult owned and very well built.  It looks great the way it sits and gets a ton of attention wherever I go.  The body is super straight and solid so it wouldn't take a whole lot of bodywork/ paint to finish the outside and make this a show car.  I prefer it how it is since it's only original once and has a ton of character this way.  If you're looking for a great So-Cal style surf wagon, this is the car for you. I am selling this car to finish up another project but am not forced to sell.  I would consider trading for 32 Fords, 66-67 Chevelles, Shelby Cobras, or chopped/bagged 50's cars.  Nothing foreign, no bikes, no boats, etc.  I like older stuff so prefer nothing newer.  Please email for additional info, I'm sure I'm forgetting some details.  I have a clear Ohio title in my name.  The car is located about 25 miles north of Cincinnati Ohio.  I will ship the car overseas once all funds have cleared the bank.  I reserve the right to end the auction early.  I will do a buy-it-now for the right price.  Please email me to discuss.  0-feedback bidders must contact me prior to bidding or bids will be cancelled.

Thanks for looking.

GM won't really kill off the Chevy Volt and Cadillac CT6, will it?

Fri, Jul 21 2017

General Motors is apparently considering killing off six slow-selling models by 2020, according to Reuters. But is that really likely? The news is mentioned in a story where UAW president Dennis Williams notes that slumping US car sales could threaten jobs at low-volume factories. Still, we're skeptical that GM is really serious about killing those cars. Reuters specifically calls out the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Sonic, and the Chevrolet Volt. Most of these have been redesigned or refreshed within the past few model years. Four - the LaCrosse, Impala, CT6, and Volt - are built in the Hamtramck factory in Detroit. That plant has made only 35,000 cars this year - down 32 percent from 2016. A typical GM plant builds 200,000-300,000 vehicles a year. Of all the cars Williams listed, killing the XTS, Impala, and Sonic make the most sense. They're older and don't sell particularly well. On the other hand, axing the other three seems like an odd move. It would leave Buick and Cadillac without flagship sedans, at least until the rumored Cadillac CT8 arrives. The CT6 was a big investment for GM and backing out after just a few years would be a huge loss. It also uses GM's latest and best materials and technology, making us even more skeptical. The Volt is a hugely important car for Chevrolet, and supplementing it with a crossover makes more sense than replacing it with one. Offering one model with a range of powertrain variants like the Hyundai Ioniq and Toyota Prius might be another route GM could take. All six of these vehicles are sedans, Yes, crossover sales are booming, but there's still a huge market for cars. Backing away from these would be essentially giving up sales to competitors from around the globe. The UAW might simply be publicly pushing GM to move crossover production to Hamtramck to avoid closing the plant and laying off workers. Sales of passenger cars are down across both GM and the industry. Consolidating production in other plants and closing Hamtramck rather than having a single facility focus on sedans might make more sense from a business perspective. GM is also trying to reduce its unsold inventory, meaning current production may be slowed or halted while current cars move into customer hands. There's a lot of politics that goes into building a car. GM wants to do what makes the most sense from a business perspective, while the UAW doesn't workers to lose their jobs when a factory closes.

Here's why automakers roll out those Texas-themed pickup trucks

Thu, Sep 29 2016

Every year, automakers with a full-size truck link make a big show of the Texas State Fair, usually involving a reveal of a new model. Sometimes they show a whole new truck, and other times a special edition centered on the Lone Star state. While some people might write this off as a quirk of the industry, others might be wondering, "What's the big deal with Texas?" As it turns out, part of the big deal with Texas is big truck sales. According to Dave Sullivan, product analysis manager at AutoPacific, Texas buys more trucks than any other state in the country. It's not a small margin either. Edmunds.com, one in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. The state also accounts for 15 percent of the country's large truck sales, which is more than twice that of California, the second largest truck market in America. Even when you break down sales only in Texas, trucks are a huge piece of the pie - Sullivan says that a quarter of new vehicle sales in Texas are trucks. One in five trucks sold in the US are sold in Texas. But it's not just sales that make truck builders give attention to Texas. As Sullivan explained, "Pickups are life in Texas." Both he and Hugh Milne, marketing and advertising manager for the Chevy Silverado line, said that trucks are key fixtures in Texas society, as both work trucks and luxury vehicles (or Texas Cadillacs as Milne called them). Milne said Texas is so important in the truck market that if you want to be successful in the rest of the country, "you've got to be successful in Texas." As for the State Fair, it has become a prime location for reveals in part because of the importance of the Texas market and because of how big the fair is. Milne also revealed that the State Fair also hosts its own auto show, so it's an ideal venue for a vehicle introduction. So there you have it. Why do truck builders obsess over Texas? It's because Texas obsesses over trucks. When you have one market that loves your product that much, you give it the attention it deserves.
