1961 Chevrolet Bel Air Bubbletop 4 Speed V8 Impala/bel Air 2 Door Bucket Seats!! on 2040-cars
Lubbock, Texas, United States
This 1961 Chevrolet Bel-Air Bubbletop is the first year of the Fifth Generation Chevrolet Bel Air body style. Everything about his car evokes pure Americana! Finished in black exterior with black bucket seats and a 4 speed. Offering you the options you want at an affordable price. A majority of bubbletops out there have commanded price tags in the $30,000-$60,000 dollar range and have reached the stratosphere in pricing. It is rare to find an example that is affordable and completely drivable. What sets this car apart is its drivability, options and color combination. Making this Bubbletop a solid investment as a car you can enjoy and watch it appreciate in value as the years continue. This 61 Bubble top has been well cared for and slightly upgraded over the years to house a WK code 1969 350 small block with solid lifters and shifted by 4 Speed transmission. It is obvious that over the years a lot of time and effort went into the build of this car, keeping with the Bel Air theme but upgrading it with things like Impala bucket seats out of a 1964. Ultimately, making this original grandma car a heart stopping Bel Air as any Hot Rodder would have liked back in the day. To note this Bubbletop has great sounding rumble and is extremely fun to drive! The 61 Chevrolet Bel Airs were a totally new body for GM not just new sheetmetal although the wheelbase stayed the same at 119in but its length was reduced slightly from previous years. The Bel air 2 door “bubble top” design has been the highlight for collectors with minimal production numbers compared to other GM makes and models with only 8,671 6cy and 9686 V8’s made. Although, not a fresh restoration this 61 Bel Air has a very sharp flare to her. No need to do any restoration work as she all the work has been done to make her an eye catcher and quality driver. Paint appears to be a few years old with normal wear that you would expect, for example a few scratches near the hood area and some wear at the extreme corners. The interior is finished very nicely with an Impala Steering wheel and bucket seats all of which are in great condition. The exterior trim does have a few nicks and dings but what shows the most wear on the whole car is the front bumper does show hazing and the wind wings glass is original and starting to delaminate. Rubber front and rear window trim does show cracking from age and could easily be replaced. Engine compartment and trunk are absolutely amazing. GM's European Opel division may eventually go all-electric
Wed, Feb 15 2017General Motors' Opel division in Europe may transform itself into an all-electric vehicle maker by 2030. Granted, a lot can happen between now and then, including a potential buyout by French automaker PSA Group. Regardless, Opel appears to view its electric future beyond the Ampera-e, which is the sister vehicle to the Chevrolet Bolt, and more like Tesla. Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann indicated that focusing on electric drivetrains would be a superior strategy to expanding its EV technology while pushing forward with conventional drivetrains, says Automotive News Europe, citing comments Neumann made to German publication Manager Magazin. General Motors could make the decision to move towards an all-electric vehicle line for Opel as soon as May. Of course, that depends on whether Opel is bought out by PSA, the parent country to Peugeot and Citroen. PSA is in talks to buy General Motors' Opel and Vauxhall divisions, though government and labor representatives in Germany have expressed concerns over potential job losses from the proposed buyout, Reuters says. Regardless, GM has hinted at expanding its electric-vehicle line far beyond the Bolt, which has a 238-mile single-charge range and debuted late last year. Mary Barra, in an interview with CNET, said the Bolt's all-electric platform could be applied to a "huge range of vehicles," though wasn't specific about additional EV models. Opel first showed off its Ampera-e at the Paris Motor Show last fall. The name of the model raised some eyebrows because the Ampera badge had been previously used by Opel for the sister version of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in. Either way, Opel is looking to take on Renault for electric-vehicle sales supremacy across the Pond. Related Video:
GM laying off 500 workers to slow Chevy Sonic production
Sat, Oct 24 2015Due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, General Motors is cutting a shift at the Orion Township plant that builds the pair. The move lays off about 500 workers, but most of them are expected to get offers to transfer to other factories, Automotive News reports. The move came just a day after GM announced adding 1,200 employees to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM has been trying all year at the Orion Township factory to align production of the Sonic and Verano with their demand. The automaker first attempted idling the plant several times and eventually resorted to laying off about 100 workers. It also reduced the production rate there. With the huge rise in popularity of crossovers, demand for the plant's small cars is on the downturn. According to Automotive News, there's currently a 116-day supply of Sonics and 100 days of Veranos to sell. Delivers tell a similar tale because the Chevy is off 35.2 percent from January to September, and the Buick does little better with a 27.2 percent drop from the same period last year. While the situation at Orion Township might look rough now, big things are on the horizon. Soon, the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle will be built there when it hits the market around 2017. Plus, the plant will also get a $245-million upgrade and 300 new jobs for another, unannounced vehicle.
EcoCar3 will convert Camaro to bitchin' eco rides
Sat, Apr 26 2014In the 47-year-history of the Chevrolet Camaro, there have been countless college-age kids spending a ton of time getting under the hood and souping 'em up. Now, General Motors is adding a twist to the concept by donating 16 Camaros for the EcoCar challenge that puts university teams together to wring out better fuel-efficiency out of various vehicles. No word on whether there will be donuts on anyone's lawn, as suggested by 80's punks the Dead Milkmen, but the idea's never a bad one. EcoCar3 will feature 16 teams such as Arizona State, Penn State, Ontario's University of Waterloo and, of course, Detroit's Wayne State University. They'll spend the next four years "[reducing] environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car," as the EcoCar organizers say. The goal is to maintain body design and safety standards while boosting efficiency and lowering emissions, but the actual process is far more complicated than that description suggests. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Bosch are among the sponsors of the contest, which is also put on by the US Department of Energy and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. Penn State won Year Two of the three-year EcoCar 2 competition with its E85 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle converted out of a Chevy Malibu. The grand-prize winner of EcoCar2 will be announced in June. Check out the EcoCar3 website and see the announcement video below for more details. This content is hosted by a third party.
