1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2Dr. Hardtop

I am proud to list this 57 Bel Air 2 Dr. Hardtop. This Bel Air was born a V-8 (VC vin #) and retains the original 283 Cid engine with the power pack option. The carb has been updated to a new Carter AFB competition series with electric choke, & dual exhaust. It has period corvette valve covers, factory power steering and after market air conditioning & heat unit. It has an automatic turbo 350 transmission and the original rear end.It has a Custom Audio radio that fits in the original dash opening that is am/fm, cd, and mp3 compatible, with a Custom Audio 10 disc changer in the trunk, & the stereo sounds great. It comes with custom audio manuals for both the radio and 10 disc changer. This is a wonderful driving and running Bel Air. The cowl tag shows the paint code 816D (Colonial Cream), interior code 675 (Black & Yellow) has high end custom interior installed now with a Glide 50/50 split bench seat.. I could keep going on and on but I think the pictures speak for there self. It has great curb appeal and you will want to show off how nice this one is. It has held up extremely well over the past 6-7 years. You can tell it was well maintained and was restored properly with good workmanship and materials.

I have invoices from 1996 that the previous owner supplied with the sale of the car. It went through a restoration in Utah in 1996 with a cost of $27,196.82 for paint, body, & mechanical, and $9,056.91 for the custom interior & trunk compartment. This is a total of $36,253.00 that was spent bringing her back to a very nice restored vehicle. The invoices are very detailed and will go with the car. The floor pans, trunk pan, and body braces appear to have never been replaced or spliced in. The quarter panels and lower fenders have no splice lines or signs of replacement, and there is nothing in the detailed invoices about any floor pan or trunk repair. The body work is very straight, panel fit & gaps are nice, and the base coat/clear coat finish has been color sanded and polished out to a high end finish. The glass, chrome & bright work, rubber seals, have all been replated or replaced. The wheels were sand blasted and repainted and has new wide white wall radial tires, and a brand new battery.

The known defects are - Interior dome light does not turn off, (bulb is removed). The horn is hooked up but not operating. The windshield wiper motor is not operating, and a small ding on the left quarter panel upper stainless moulding, (small ding)

The mileage shows 42,389, but is being sold as exempt on the mileage due to no verification of the original miles. It is being sold as is-where is with no written warranty. Please come and inspect and take it on a test drive. I welcome inspections, prefer they are done before the end of auction. I reserve the right to stop the auction at any time due to it is for sale locally too. I set my reserves at a resonable value, so please only bid if you are a serious buyer. Please don't waste everyones time. The car is located in Wentzville, Mo. 35 miles west of Saint Louis. Please see my future auctions, I have a nice 1958 Chevy Imapala 2Dr. Hardtop, and a 1950 Ford Convertible with original flathead engine that will be listed soon. My name is Greg and you can reach me @ (806) 477-2201. Thanks for viewing my auction and good luck.

GM uses wind power to build SUVs, trucks

Tue, Oct 9 2018

This week started with a chill, as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a dire report with scientists warning, "The world we know today is not the world we will see in 50 years," with temperatures rising at their current rates. In the meantime, the trend toward purchasing more SUVs and crossovers continues. Most automakers, though, have set goals toward more sustainable production. That includes General Motors, which, somewhat ironically, plans to use wind power to produce many of its vehicles, including pickups and full-size SUVs. As the Detroit Free Press reports, several wind farms are coming online to support cleaner production as part of a partnership between GM and energy producer CMS Enterprises. At the beginning of October, the 100-megawatt Northwest Ohio Wind Farm began producing energy, supplying GM operations in Ohio and Indiana, where manufactured vehicles include the Chevy Cruze, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Hilltopper Wind Farm in Illinois will begin producing another 100 megawatts for GM manufacturing in the region. In Texas, where GM builds the Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade, the automaker is getting 50 megawatts from Cactus Flats Wind Farm beginning October 9. Using wind power isn't just about being green, but also for the sake of price stability. As Rob Threlkeld, GM's global manager of renewable energy told the Free Press, "You don't get the price spikes this way, like you do with fuel, and it reduces the environment footprint of the vehicle you're driving." Threlkeld said that renewable energy has already meant "millions of dollars in savings" for GM. GM plans to power all of its global operations with renewable energy by 2050. This week, the automaker was ranked 76 on the EPA's "National Top 100 List" of green manufacturers. It was the only automotive company listed. Chevy Volt replacement battery cost varies wildly, up to $34,000

Fri, Jan 10 2014

There's a growing hubbub in the plug-in vehicle community over what looks like some ridiculously cheap replacement batteries for the Chevrolet Volt going up for sale. GM Parts Online, for example, is selling a replacement Volt battery with an MSRP of $2,994.64 but, with an online discount, the price comes down to $2,305.88. For the 16-kWh pack in the 2012 Volt, that comes to a very low $144.11 per kilowatt hour (kWH). But is it a real deal? How can it be, when a Chevy dealer may quote you a price of up to $34,000 to replace the pack? For a 16-kWh Volt pack, $2,305.88 comes to a very low $144.11 per kWh. But is it a real deal? Battery packs in alternative propulsion vehicles are usually priced by the kWh and, historically, they've been thought to be in the range of $500-per-kWh for OEM offerings. Since automakers are understandably secretive about their costs, we still don't know what the real number is today, but we do know it varies by automaker. Tesla, for example, has said it pays less than $200-per-kWH at the cell level but, of course, a constructed pack would be more. Whatever is going on, li-ion battery prices are trending downward. So, $144.11 certainly sounds great, but what's the story here? Kevin Kelly, manager of electrification technology communications for General Motors, reminded AutoblogGreen that GM Parts Online is not the official GM parts website and that, "the costs indicated on the site are not what we would charge our dealers or owners for a replacement battery. There would be no cost to the Volt owner if their battery needs replacement or repair while the battery is under the eight year/100,000 mile limited warranty coverage provided by Chevrolet." A single price tag also can't be accurate for everyone, Kelly said. "If the customer needs to have their battery repaired beyond the warranty, the cost to them would vary depending on what needs to be replaced or repaired (i.e. number of modules, which specific internal components need replacement, etc.)." he said. "So, it's hard for us to tell you exactly what the cost would be to the customer because it varies depending on what might need to be repaired/replaced. As a result, the core charge would vary." But, is the $2,300 price even accurate for anyone? Thanks to a reader comment, we see that this similar item on New GM Parts makes it look like the lithium-ion modules that Kelly mentioned – where a lot of the expensive bits are – are not included.

Audi S4 drivers are the most accident-prone, insurance report says

Sun, Jun 25 2023

Culling data from more than 4.6 million automobile insurance applications, researchers at the Insurify insurance comparison marketplace picked a winner — or more to the point, a loser — in its determination of the car model with the most accidents so far in 2023: the Audi S4. Why does the sporty, luxury-class German sedan rank so high (or so low)? The organization found that S4 drivers, piloting a car with almost 350 horsepower, are among those who collect the most speeding tickets, and that they get into accidents at a rate 54 percent higher than the national average. If the S4 isnÂ’t a surprise with an at-fault accident rate of 11.7 percent, consider the “family friendly” brand that appears three times on the Insurity list: Subaru. It is represented by three models, including the turbocharged WRX and XV Crosstrek, and at the better-performing bottom of the list, the Subaru Impreza, with an accident rate of 10.3 percent.  In 2023, 7.6 percent of U.S. drivers were involved in at least one at-fault accident in the prior seven years. For drivers of cars on this list, the average at-fault accident rate was 10.5 percent, meaning these drivers are 1.4 times as likely to have an at-fault accident on record. According to its statement, the Insurity data science team explored key safety features, driver behavior, and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluations to pinpoint possible reasons behind these carsÂ’ high accident rates. Following is the list, counting down to the models with most reported accidents: 10. Subaru Impreza (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.3 percent; MSRP base model): $19,795) 9. Kia Niro (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4 percent; MSRP base model): $26,590) 8. Chevrolet Silverado LD (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.4%, MSRP base model): $34,500) 7. Subaru XV Crosstrek (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.5 percent, MSRP 6. Subaru WRX.(percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.7% MSRP base model): $29,605) 5. Toyota GR86 (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.8 percent MSRP base model): $29,900) 4. Hyundai Veloster N (percentage of drivers with a prior at-fault accident on record: 10.9 percent; MSRP base model): $32,500) 3.
